BILL BLOG

Monday morning, and we’re into November.
You rolled your clocks back, right? I will never understand why we have to do that.
THE WEEKEND
Friday night I went to a place called “The Local” in Hendersonville, TN for the Caroline Owens “Low Flying Planes” album release party.
Jamie Johnson of the noted bluegrass group “The Grascals” introduced her, and she was off and running.
Caroline sang several songs from her new album, including “Telluride,” which I wrote with Andrea Pearson and that has been one of the most-played songs on the Bluegrass Junction channel on SiriusXM over the past 3 years.
Andrea and I had a “high-five” over that bit of news.
She had a big crowd, and our Billy Blue family was well represented, and we all cheered her on.
It’s a really good album, and I’m glad to have a song on it, with these other songwriters in this picture. L-R Andrea Pearson, Jerry Salley, myself, and Bob Minner.
ICE CREAM
After the show, I hit a drive-thru for an ice cream cone. They charged me almost 8 dollars for a danged ice cream cone. Geez. Good thing I didn’t go through a Starbucks drive-thru as well, or I might have had to take out a loan…or wash dishes.
BACK TO THE BEACH
Friday evening, Brian White, the songwriter, called and asked if I was available to play at the Frank Brown Songwriters Festival this week in Gulf Shores, and I said, “Yes!”
I’ve played the festival for a ton of years and had thought I was going to miss it this year because I had been booked for a show in North Carolina this weekend. But that got cancelled, so I’m very happy to be jumping in the truck with Brian on Thursday to head for the beach.
I’ll play 4 shows this year, all 4 with Brian White and others.
SONG OF THE DAY
Since we had to mess with our clocks this past weekend, I thought this song from Darin & Brooke Aldridge that I wrote with Lisa Shaffer Stone might be appropriate for today’s choice. Here’s “Trying To Make Clocks Slow Down.” You’ll find that song on their “Flying” album.
HEALTH NOTES
Some solid health food advice here. An expert claims that moldy food isn’t always dangerous and you should just ‘Spit it out and move on with your day.’
Scary. Louisiana state health officials have issued an urgent warning to residents after a microscopic organism commonly found in tap water was linked to five cases of permanent blindness and one death.
A new study shows that eating two servings per day of peanuts is healthy for your brain.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Say what?
MONEY FOR RETIREMENT
MoneyLion just released how much it takes to retire “comfortably” in each state.
I checked my home state of Missouri. That figure is $44,244. Meanwhile, in Tennessee, where I live now, that figure is nearly the same: $44,959.
Quite a bit more in places like California, Hawaii, and New York. If you’re curious about your home state, here’s the entire LIST.
NO MAYO?!
A Spanish man sat down at a café. When he found out they were out of Mayo, he burned the place down.
He just got 3 and a half years in prison for that. Maybe they’ll have Mayo there.
FISHING
Who knew you could make so much money fishing? Matt Robertson, from Kentucky, just won a fishing tournament at Old Hickory Lake down here, (that I can see right now looking outside my window) and he pocketed 1.25 million!
I might need to blow the dust off my old Zebco 33 and buy some plastic worms and a hula popper.
TOP DESTINATIONS
National Geographic just listed its top destinations to see in the world. 5 places here in the US made the list.
5…Madison, Wisconsin. (Yep. Beautiful college town that sits on a lake.)
4…The Pacific Coast Highway. (Our family drove from San Francisco to Monterey once, and the drive with the Big Sur out our windows was gorgeous.)
3…Southern Ozarks. (I grew up in Missouri so I can vouch for the beauty of that one.)
2…Baltimore. (Lot of history, and the harbor views are awesome)
1…Catalina Island off of California
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Alan Dundes:
“Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.”
TODAY
I’m back in a writing room with Spencer Hatcher, his brother Connor, and my friend Steve Dean. Spencer is the artist, so all of us will be trying to write a traditional country song for him.
Have a great Monday!
