A Thursday sunrise is on the way. And the high in Nashville will be 87.

YESTERDAY

Last night I played some music in Franklin, Tennessee at a beautiful home to help thank those who work with Mercy Chefs. The donors, the volunteers, the organizers.

Mercy Chefs is a faith based 501 C (3) non-profit disaster and non-profit disaster relief organization that delivers restaurant-quality, chef-prepared hot meals, clean water, and family grocery boxes to disaster victims, first responders, and volunteers. We were served some of their great food in a beautiful outdoor setting last night.

Chef Gary LeBlanc and Ann LeBlanc (who sang “Does He Love You” with Linda last night, founded the organization in 2006 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

And both were there in the piano parlor last night listening to our show that featured Bobby Tomberlin and Tess Frizzell.

And Linda Davis, Lang Scott, myself, and Rylee Jean Scott.

My wife Kathy went with me, and we could not have had a better time. Just a great organization. You’ll probably see some Mercy Chef trucks down on the Gulf Shore by this weekend.

SPEAKING OF THAT HURRICANE

This one is named Isaias. I had to look it up. Isaias was a biblical prophet. I don’t know if he predicted he would be a hurricane one day or not. Checking.

SONG OF THE DAY

With all eyes on the hurricane down on the Gulf Coast, it seems appropriate to share the song “Jim Cantore” again that I wrote with Brent Burns. Word is that Cantore arrived in Mobile yesterday. And as this song says, “It’s never good when he comes town.”

HEALTH NOTES

Canada is reporting a spike in ER visits due to online gambling. Many of the patients arrive at the ER with major depression or suicidal thoughts, while others had mental-health or substance-abuse diagnoses.

Over 122,00 cases of Gatorade have been recalled by PepsiCo due to undeclared Yellow No. 5 and Yellow No. 6 food dyes.

Utah now allows AI to scan your face and prescribe acne medication.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Good to know.

THE AMERICAN DREAM

It’s gotten a lot more expensive. The American dream now costs 5.3 million up more than 2 million from just a few years ago.

What is the American Dream?

A wedding or two to pay for, healthcare, retirement, owning a home, having a couple of kids to put through college, and a new car. Yep, expensive.

SKINNY KIND OF FUNNY

This from the masters of fake headlines, the Babylon Bee.

“Ariana Grande Lands Seasonal Gig as Halloween Lawn Skeleton.”

BOX OFFICE FLOP

A rarity, that Tom Cruise has a box office flop with his new film “Digger.” I’m going to take a guess as to why this film failed. I think it’s because Tom looked like this…

Instead of like this…

Just a guess.

AMAZON

The company will be laying off more workers. This time over 1,000 white collar employees.

For the life of me, I don’t know why. I have a Prime package or two arriving at my door seemingly every day. So, I know I’m doing my part!

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Paul Coelho:

“Don’t waste your time with explanations: people only hear what they want to hear.”

TODAY

I’m back writing for a second time this week with Spencer & Connor Hatcher.

Now that I know that Spencer plays the banjo so well, and that they like to have this kind of fun…

I’m thinking we might right our first bluegrass song together.

Have a great Thursday!

The Bluebird Show...Pet Marriage...Tourist Attractions

BILL BLOG Thursday, August 6, 2026   Thursday morning, a little bleary-eyed. We’re back in the heat again today, with a high of 91 expected in Nashville.    I was up late last night, so the Blog is being posted just a little later than normal this morning.     YESTERDAY What a magical night at the Bluebird Café for the 9 pm songwriter show Wil Nance , Mo Pitney, and Brady Seals .      The place was packed, as it always is with folks from far and wide, including a nice couple who made the trip from Alberta, Canada, just to come to the Bluebird Café. And I don’t think they went home disappointed.   Wil Nance kicked us off with the great song he helped write for George Strait, “ Where Have I Been All My Life, ” and also performed his smash hit, “She’s Everything for Brad Paisley .   Curb Recording Artist Mo Pitney sang “ Fiddle Around, ” which he wrote with Wil and a couple of great new tunes. Mo is one of the...
