Hurricane...Bluegrass Song...Kristy Cox Album Release

BILL BLOG

Friday, October 9, 2026

It’s Friday! Bring on the weekend. A high of 86 here in Nashville today, but only 70 for tomorrow.

All eyes are on hurricane Isaias, now a Category 2, coming ashore today and this evening. It’s going to bring some heavy rain to Nashville, with winds as high as 40 mph. A flood warning has been issued here.

Meanwhile, folks are boarding up their house in the Gulf Shores-Pensacola region. The storm surge may be the worst of it. Stay safe.

YESTERDAY

I wrote a fun up-tempo bluegrass tune with Spencer and Connor Hatcher.

Spencer is a country artist on a major record label, but when I found out about his and his brother’s bluegrass background, I knew I wanted to write one song in that genre with them. And because we were at my publishing company Billy Blue, instead of their publishing company, it just made good bluegrass sense. Here’s a little SAMPLE of the two brothers playing bluegrass music, while being plain goofy playing it.

To this day, when Spencer plays his “country” shows with his brother, they do take time to break out the banjo (Spencer) and upright bass. (Connor)

I certainly enjoyed writing that kind of song with them.

CANCELLATION

My November 7 show in Lenoir, North Carolina with Linda Davis and Lang Scott has been cancelled unfortunately, BUT…we will still be playing two shows in the Tarheel state.

November 14 we will play in Clayton, North Carolina at the Clayton Center at 8pm.

And then November 15, our “Evening in the Round” trio will pay in Concord, North Carolina at the Davis Center at 4pm.

SONG OF THE DAY

The new Kristy Cox album is out today.

And it includes the song “No Regrets,” which is her current single that I’m a writer on with Kristen Leigh Bearfield, and Lauren Mascitti.

But I also have another song on this great album that I wrote with Jerry Salley and one of my “Hits & Grins” musical partners, Victoria Venier. So, “Other Side of the Wine” is the song for today. And thank you Kristy for loving these songs!

HEALTH NOTES

Sexually transmitted diarrhea is on the rise, and experts claim it’s developing its morphing into a superbug according to some of the health experts.

Get this. A study from the University of Liverpool, England did a study involving 493 participants and found that diet drinks containing sugar substitutes are as effective as water for losing weight. After two years, those drinking diet beverages had lost about 10.6 pounds, while those drinking water lost about 8.2 pounds.

Health experts are pointing out that weightlifting not only builds muscle, but it’s good for heart health as well.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

And, you don’t even have to roll up your sleeve!

UFO’S

Delaware is the number one state for UFO sightings. Just thought you might need to know that.

I’ve never been to Delaware. But I’ve been through Roswell, New Mexico a couple of times, and they are hard to miss in their museum.

SPEAKING OF UFO’S

These Wal Martians were spotted recently.

From planet America, I think.

THRILLER AUCTION

Some Michael Jackson memorabilia are going on the auction block that will include his famous white glove.

And the red jacket he wore in “Thriller.” They are expected to fetch over a million dollars. I would have guessed more.

Hard to imagine a better music video than the one Michael made for his song “Thriller,” which should be getting a lot more airplay since we are near Halloween

CONVENIENCE

A poll claims that Mejier is the #1 convenience store for folks. Then it’s Kwik Trip, Wawa, and Sheetz in that order.

Buc-ee’s is only ranked #7. I would have thought the “brisket on the board,” would have ranked it a little higher.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Joan Rivers:

“You know you’ve reached middle age when you’re cautioned to slow down by your doctor, instead of the police.”

TODAY

Busy Friday on tap.

This morning I’ll be writing with Barry Hutchens who’s in town from North Carolina. I’ll be doing a show with Barry and his talented son Will next week at the Blast on the Bay Songwriters Festival down in Port St. Joe, Florida.

I always look forward to hearing either one of them sing.

TONIGHT

I’m attending a very special evening that will feature this great family, the Scott Family.

I can’t say a whole lot about what they’re doing yet, but it’s going to be great sharing the project they are working on soon Stay tuned!

TOMORROW

Weather permitting, I’ll be with my wife Kathy at another book signing for “Subtle Frequency.” That’s right, I her “arm-candy” these days.

Have a great weekend!

The Bluebird Show...Pet Marriage...Tourist Attractions

BILL BLOG Thursday, August 6, 2026   Thursday morning, a little bleary-eyed. We’re back in the heat again today, with a high of 91 expected in Nashville.    I was up late last night, so the Blog is being posted just a little later than normal this morning.     YESTERDAY What a magical night at the Bluebird Café for the 9 pm songwriter show Wil Nance , Mo Pitney, and Brady Seals .      The place was packed, as it always is with folks from far and wide, including a nice couple who made the trip from Alberta, Canada, just to come to the Bluebird Café. And I don’t think they went home disappointed.   Wil Nance kicked us off with the great song he helped write for George Strait, “ Where Have I Been All My Life, ” and also performed his smash hit, “She’s Everything for Brad Paisley .   Curb Recording Artist Mo Pitney sang “ Fiddle Around, ” which he wrote with Wil and a couple of great new tunes. Mo is one of the...
