BILL BLOG
Tuesday, October 27, 2026
Good morning from Nashville. I’m home from a 10-day beach run. Got home Sunday actually, and had no computer to put up a Blog yesterday. Sigh. It’s in the shop…crashed.
Today’s high in Nashville will be 76 degrees, and it’s really starting to feel like Fall around here.
So, let’s catch up a little.
THE WEEKEND
Friday was my last day in Gulf Shores at this year’s MOTM event for Parrot Heads. I played an early afternoon set with this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award winner Kelly McGuire at the top of the Embassy Suites with a poolside-ocean view again.
Hard to beat playing music with these kinds of views.
And then I went over to Lulu’s and ended as I had started, playing music alongside my friend Brent Burns.
Thank you to all the Parrot Heads for having me again this year. I certainly enjoyed being your backstage announcer at the Trop Rock Awards Show, and also enjoyed presenting the “Radio Awards” with the world’s oldest radio teenager Greg Dumas from Radio Trop Rock who won the award for “Best Station” again.
Next year, the festival will be held further south, down in Ft Myers at the new Margaritaville Resort.
Looking forward to that.
SATURDAY
I got home in time to drop my computer at the shop and told the tech-guy that my laptop keeps crashing, and that I can’t even get it to power up. I tried three days in a row. So what happens? He hits the power button and it boots right up. Of course!
It’s a mystery. I’m picking it back up today and we’ll see what happens.
And for the record, I hate how dependent I am on one.
SONG OF THE DAY
I’m choosing the song “Can I Get An Amen” that I recorded on one of my two comedy-song CD’s that I wrote with my friend Lisa Shaffer Stone. This fun song is about things that we agree on so much that we could say “Amen.”
HEALTH NOTES
Research has concluded that 1 in 9 of those over 65 years of age have Alzheimer’s.
An NYU study claims that sound waves could help stop schizophrenia delusions.
Measles cases have more than doubled over the last year.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
I get that sign ALL the time!
THE SERIES
Go Brew Crew. The Brewers are up 3-0 in the World Series after crushing the Rays in Tampa Bay last night. After working in Milwaukee six years in radio, I’m most surely hoping the Brewers will win their first championship in the team’s history. It’s sure looking that way right now.
I got to know the legendary Bob Uecker just a bit when I was up there, and as I’m watching these games I’m thinking what a great thing it would be if Bob were still in the broadcast booth calling the game, and getting to watch this unfold.
EAGLES NEST
Hitler’s place, “The Eagles Nest” caught on fire over the weekend. Knowing the history of the place, and the old owner, it was a little eerie looking at it.
My wife and I got a view of it from beautiful Lake Konigssee when we visited our daughter and son in law over in Germany a few years ago.
The Eagles Nest, that is a museum, and had a café in it, was closed when we were there. But we did get a look at I perched up on that Bavarian mountain.
Like I said, eerie.
HALLOWEEN
It’s on us. And you know it’s really close when 300 witches showed up in Salem, Massachusetts a few days ago!
That’s a lot of long crooked noses in one place y’all.
MORE HALLOWEEN
Candy sales are down, while chocolate prices are up. Folks are cutting back. I have a friend who says he’s going to drop a potato in Trick or Treat bags this year. The kids LOVE that!
EVEN MORE HALLOWEEN
Some folks are REALLY good at carving pumpkins.
Me? Not so much. Which is why I leave a can of pumpkin pie filling on the front porch every Halloween with a candle on it.
You might want to do the same if you’re carving skills are like mine.
AI TAKETH MORE AWAY
Microsoft is buying out 1/4th of its work force, and investing billions into AI, and not humans. It’s hard to not think that we are already living in the future.
SMART ANIMALS
The animal people who know about these things just ranked the “smartest animals in the world.” Those of you guessing it might be a dog? Think again. Man’s best friend didn’t get near the Top 5.
A lot of the monkey family is represented.
5…Orangutans
4…Bonobos (monkey family)
3…Elephants
2…Bottlenose dolphins
And the SMARTEST animal on the planet is the Chimpanzee. That should make Tarzan happy.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Jim Harper:
“Teamwork is essential because it allows you to blame someone else.”
TODAY
I have a writing appointment this afternoon with Kristen Lee Bearfield and her talented boyfriend Andy Davis. We'll be chasing a contemporary Christian song today geared towards a female artist.
TONIGHT
Feet up for game 4 of the World Series in Tampa Bay.
Have a great Tuesday!
