It’s Thursday, as well as being the very first day of October. That sure got here in a hurry, didn’t it?
We are expecting a 90-degree high today in Music City, before it starts cooling down over the next few days.
YESTERDAY
Last night I was at Zanie’s Comedy Club here in town to root on a friend of mine, Angus Gill who was making his comedy club debut. It was nice to see a great crowd turnout for it.
Angus invited me and another funny guy Joe Denim to be part of his show last night.
Joe and I each got up and did 10 or 15 minutes of “funny,” but the show was all about Angus who did so good.
Standup, especially the first time can scare the heck out of you. I remember the first time I ever did it was in Cincinnati at the Funnybone Comedy Club. And you’re REALLY nervous because you just have no idea if the jokes or going to land, or if people are going to laugh. They did that night, and they also laughed with Angus last night.
And we just had the best time hanging out!
On top of everything else, my wife Kathy wound up selling a copy of her book Subtle Frequency to a couple who were sitting at a table with her. It was a home run of a night!
THE FUNNY PODCAST
I had no idea that they taped the “Nateland” podcast at Zanies.
The door off the green room where Angus, Joe and I hung out last night, connected to a small studio where they film that funny podcast that features comics Dusty Slay, Brian Bates and Aaron Weber, and of course Nate Bargatze. Nate appears only every now and then, but man it’s a funny podcast. And we met all the guys from that show last night. Down to earth cool guys for sure.
Heck, even Lee Ann Morgan was backstage as she was a guest on the Nateland Podcast being filmed, and Angus snagged a picture with her.
If you’ve not seen, or heard the podcast, here’s an EXAMPLE.
BEACH SONGS
My friend Jessie Ritter down in Pensacola let me know that she’s releasing two beach songs that I helped write sometime in 2027. One of those is the first song we wrote together, one that I’ve loved since we wrote it together in Nashville, “Take Me There.” I don’t have the recording yet that I can share, but I do have this version of Jessie singing it at the world-famous Flora-Bama bar, with the crowd singing along. Check that out HERE.
SONG OF THE DAY
Since I worked with Angus Gill last night, here’s a song the two of us wrote that the French Family Band recorded for their current album, sung by Sonny French, who wrote the song with us, “Here Comes the Sun Again.”
HEALTH NOTES
Popular GLP-1 drugs may pose a hidden risk to the brain during rapid weight loss according to research. The drug may shrink brain tissue if caloric restriction goes too far.
Pennsylvania has recorded its fifth measles death as the country sees the worst outbreak of measles in 35 years.
There’s been a big drop in U.S prescriptions for sedatives like Xanax, and Valium.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Okay then.
DOLLY FOLLOW UP
I mentioned yesterday that Dolly’s brand of coffee is available for purchase, “Cup of Ambition.”
A couple of years ago I did some shows with my “Hits & Grins” trio at Dollywood, and Dolly handpicked these coffee cups to give each of us.
That thoughtful gift means even more to the three of us now than it did when they were given us.
DOLLY’S HOTEL
That’s officially opened here in Nashville, and I found out yesterday that I might be playing their next year a couple of times which would be cool. I’ll keep you posted on that. But here’s hoping.
MODERN DAY JOKE
My wife asked me why I whisper in the house. I answered that I was afraid Google was listening.
She laughed. I laughed. Alex laughed. Siri laughed. The refrigerator laughed.
HOMES FOR SALE
Underwood Law Firm has listed the state having the hardest time selling homes. Here’s the Top 5.
5…Arizona
4…Montana
3…South Carolina
2…Texas
And the hardest state to sell home in is Florida, with 206,508 homes on the market. Good time to find a bargain in the Sunshine State.
COOL GLASSES
The iconic sunglasses Elvis used to wear is going up for auction. They expect them to bring in over $26,000.
Geez, where were they when I was wearing an Elvis jumpsuit?!
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Zig Ziglar:
“Don’t be distracted by criticism. Remember, the only taste of success some people get is to take a bite out you.”
TODAY
A day off today, and I think there are some baseball playoff games on the TV.
Have a great Thursday!
