Blast on the Bay...Mo Mo...Haunted House

BILL BLOG

Friday, October 2, 2026

It’s Friday, and the first weekend of October is here. 85-degree high today in Nashville, and we might see a little rain, something we have not seen in a very long while.

YESTERDAY

Thursday was a day for working ahead, pitching some songs, and catching up on stuff.

BLAST ON THE BAY

My schedule for this year’s Blast on the Bay Songwriters Festival in Port St. Joe arrived, a great songwriters fest on the Gulf Coast. Here’s what I have as of now.

Thursday, October 15 is a private event to kick off the festival complete with music, and my favorite thing, a big ole shrimp boil near the water.

Friday, October 16 I’ll play at Taproot at 3 pm with songwriters Jerry Salley, Will and Barry Hutchens.

Saturday, October 17 I’ll be at Scallop Republic at 5 pm with songwriters Jerry Salley, Jeff Silvey, Dana Hunt Black.

Sunday, October 18 I’m at the Indian Raw Pass Bar for the final day. My start time, and the list of writers who will be with me will be posted soon.

This is such a great festival, always fun. Come join us if you can.

ODDITY

I mentioned yesterday that my wife Kathy sold one of her books when she went with me to Zanie’s Comedy Club to do a little “stand-up” with a couple of my friends.

I find out that the couple she sold her book too had quite the jobs. He is a magician, and his wife is a clown! True. Proof that my wife can sell a book to anyone!

SONG OF THE DAY

Found this on the internet yesterday. Paul Salois, the owner of KPCR Radio in Bowling Green, Missouri where I worked my first radio job, wrote the poem “Mo Mo” the Missouri Monster along with the morning guy, Joe Lewis,  that I put music to, and then I went to Nashville to record it. It’s has had quite the long life to say the least, and I’ve talked about it many times here.

This is a VIDEO of Peggy dropping a needle and playing that old 45 RPM record. So this is the Song of the Day.

Thank you for this gift Peggy.

HEALTH NOTES

The new weight loss drug “Triple-G” is showing that even the lowest dose, trial patients lost 12.7% of their weight. The drug maker Lily says the possible side effects include diarrhea, constipation, decreased appetite, and vomiting.

There’s now something called a ‘speech clock’ that can assess how fast you’re aging just from your voice. And yes, it’s an AI device.

Research suggests that smiling at babies can help emotional regulation develop.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Add that to your resume, “I have a clue.”

TSA

TSA workers will no longer be able to sit at airports. So, they’ll have to be on their feet all the time.

Pretty sure there might be some cranky folks riffling through my suitcase at the airport in the future.

When I was young, I remember standing on my feet all day when I worked at a grocery store. Never bothered me. These days? Heck, I sit when I play music!

STATE JOKES

Readers Digest just printed what they think are the funniest jokes about each state in the country. Okay. I looked at two states. First, the joke about my home state of Missouri:

A man from Kansas City walks into a bar and asks, “Wanna hear a joke about people from St. Louis?”

The bartender says, “Listen, pal, I’m from St. Louis, and I won’t appreciate it. The man sitting next to you is 265 pounds, and he’s from St. Louis too. And the bouncer, that huge guy there, is also from St. Louis. So do you still want to tell that joke?”

“No,” says the guy from Kansas City. “Not if I have to explain it three times.”

TENNESSEE (Where I live now…here’s the joke)

Do you know what you get when you play a country tune backward? You get your job back, your house back, your wife back, your dog back…

If you’re curious, here’s the ENTIRE LIST of state jokes.

OH, I NEED THIS!

Amazon Prime Days is one week away and will be bringing us some bargains. I don’t really want anything from Prime, but I’m pretty sure I NEED this.

And it’s just $23. I mean, who couldn’t use the eggs?

HAUNTED

It’s October. And Haunted Houses will soon be scaring people. Now, I’m not a Halloween guy. Probably my least favorite holiday. But I did go through a haunted house one time, and that was the last time. I don’t enjoy an activity that requires me to change my pants later.

I have also been a cast member in a Haunted House. Once. I can tell you, I do better at scaring people, that being scared in the dark.

With that, I read an article that claims the best Haunted House in the country is the Cutting-Edge Haunted House in Fort Worth. It was an old meat packing place, hence the name, "Cutting-Edge."

They describe it as being “Hell’s Half Acre.” And it could take you as long as 55 minutes to get through the entire thing. Nope, no thanks. BUT, if you’re brave hearted and don’t mind changing your underwear, here’s a little VIDEO TOUR.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From John Wayne:

“Life is hard; it’s harder if you’re stupid.”

TODAY

Nothing big today, and for that matter, the weekend. The baseball playoffs are on, and then a slew of football games over the weekend. So, I’ll find something to do.

Have a great weekend!

The Bluebird Show...Pet Marriage...Tourist Attractions

BILL BLOG Thursday, August 6, 2026   Thursday morning, a little bleary-eyed. We’re back in the heat again today, with a high of 91 expected in Nashville.    I was up late last night, so the Blog is being posted just a little later than normal this morning.     YESTERDAY What a magical night at the Bluebird Café for the 9 pm songwriter show Wil Nance , Mo Pitney, and Brady Seals .      The place was packed, as it always is with folks from far and wide, including a nice couple who made the trip from Alberta, Canada, just to come to the Bluebird Café. And I don’t think they went home disappointed.   Wil Nance kicked us off with the great song he helped write for George Strait, “ Where Have I Been All My Life, ” and also performed his smash hit, “She’s Everything for Brad Paisley .   Curb Recording Artist Mo Pitney sang “ Fiddle Around, ” which he wrote with Wil and a couple of great new tunes. Mo is one of the...
