Blast On The Bay...A Danged Bear...Gulf Shores Parrot Heads

BILL BLOG

Good morning from beautiful Gulf Shores, Alabama where the high temperature will be a perfect 74 degrees. Postcard like weather here on the Gulf.

CATCHING UP

My computer crashed when I was in Port St. Joe for the Blast on the Bay Songwriters Festival this past weekend, but my friend Brent Burns, whom I'm staying with has loaned me his for the next cople of days. So, here's the short version highlights.

I played three great songwriter shows, big crowds at all of them.

This is one of my very favorite festivals to play every year. I had great shows with a lot of really great songwriter friends, and made some new friends with other writers that were in one of my rounds.

Sunday was my last of the three shows, and as I walked to my car to load up my guitar, this bad boy showed up.

Fortunately he was not hungry for songwriter, so I managed to sneak the guitar into my car and go before he got any ideas.

Thank you to Lynn Marshall and the staff for making "Blast on the Bay" SO much fun...again!

PARROT HEADS

So now I'm in Gulf Shores for this.

I've got two shows I'll be part of, and I'll emcee this year's Trop Rock Awards on Thursday. And Wednesday evening I'll be doing a fun show with my buddy Brent Burns at Lulu's.

SONG OF THE DAY

I'm staying with Brent here Gulf Shores, and saw this card on the kitchen table.

Brent recorded this funny song we wrote about "man" violations.

So here's "Man Card" for our song today.

LULU'S

I went to Lulu's last night and watched my friend Brent Burns do this thing for his regular Monday night gig there that he's been playing for 20 years or so.

Lulu's is owned by Jimmy Buffett's sister Lucy, and its a "go to" place if you visit Gulf Shores.

I had the blackened fish tacos last night...highly recommend.

CHART NEWS

I was happy to see the song "Typhoon" that I wrote with Tim Stafford hit the bluegrass charts last week sung by the Hall of Fame bluegrass artist Dudley Connell.

And on that same chart the Dailey & Vincent song "Moon Shines on the Still," written with Laura Leigh Robertson, that was number one for multiple weeks, is STILL on the chart. I think it's might be over 20 weeks running now!

'

And meanwhile, "No Regrets" from Kristy Cox just landed on this bluegrass chart, a song I wrote with Lauren Mascitti and Kristen Leigh Bearfield.

HEALTH NEWS

A study has concluded that late night snacking raises your risk of serious disease by 20 to 30%.

The USDA has issued the highest-level recall on 1.5 million hot dogs over storage concerns.

Meanwhile, another 1.5 million pounds of meat, and poultry have been recalled due to "temperature abuse."

HERE'S YOUR SIGN

Pretty good trick if you can pull that off.

WORLD SERIES

I did watch the Rays clinch the American League Championship over the Cleveland Guardians last night, so the World Series is set. Milwaukee vs Tampa Ray for 7 games. Go Brew Crew!

EXPENSIVE BRA

Kylie Jenner wore a 50 million dollar bra at the Victoria Secret Fashion Show this year. 50 million, for a bra.  And most bras are under a blouse right? Where you don't see them?

I'd be wearing outside the blouse if I paid 50 million for it, with the price tag dangling off of it, like Minnie Pearl.

MORE FASHION

New York Post columist Cindy Adams described what a fashion show looks like today. "It's boobs, butts, backless, bloomers, bras and belly buttons."

AIRPORTS

Tampa Bay was just named the #1 large market airport. But right behind it at #2 is Nashville. Good food all through the airport is part of the reason given. But, everywhere you go in the Nashville Airport, there's "live" music from singers and songwriters. So if you have a flight delay? It's pretty easy to keep yourself entertained.

Heck, Blake Shelton even shows up every now and then to sing at his "Ole Reds" club in the airport.

DRONING ON

More uses for a drone. Ukraine just rescued a soldier on the front lines of that war by airlifting him off the battlefied with a drone.

And because of that technoloy, a pilot was not put in harms way.

CHRISTMAS

It's sneaking up, as we are about to put Halloween season behind us. This year Hallmark will have 17 new Christmas movies to watch! 17. And they will be played over, and over, and over. They've probably already started.

And this will be a good place to remind you to check out the Christmas movie, "Music City Mistletoe" that's being streamed everywhere, like on Prime right now. I have the title track on that movie that plays in a couple of place during this movie that I wrote with the producer, Shantell Ogden, and my friend Victoria Venier. Click the link to see the trailer for the movie.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Joan Rivers:

"The first time I see a jogger smiling, I'll consider it."

TODAY

I've got a little time to soak up a little of the ocean view down here in Gulf Shores today before going to Lulu's to hang out with Brent Burns and his songwriter friends. Every day this week Brent will be hosting 4 or 5 songwriters, many of whom have become great friends and co-writers through the year. I think I'll grab a cold Landshark and cheer them on.

Have a great Tuesday!

The Bluebird Show...Pet Marriage...Tourist Attractions

BILL BLOG Thursday, August 6, 2026   Thursday morning, a little bleary-eyed. We’re back in the heat again today, with a high of 91 expected in Nashville.    I was up late last night, so the Blog is being posted just a little later than normal this morning.     YESTERDAY What a magical night at the Bluebird Café for the 9 pm songwriter show Wil Nance , Mo Pitney, and Brady Seals .      The place was packed, as it always is with folks from far and wide, including a nice couple who made the trip from Alberta, Canada, just to come to the Bluebird Café. And I don’t think they went home disappointed.   Wil Nance kicked us off with the great song he helped write for George Strait, “ Where Have I Been All My Life, ” and also performed his smash hit, “She’s Everything for Brad Paisley .   Curb Recording Artist Mo Pitney sang “ Fiddle Around, ” which he wrote with Wil and a couple of great new tunes. Mo is one of the...
