Blast on the Bay Schedule...A Baby Delivery Song...Disney Prices

BILL BLOG

Wednesday, October 7, 2026

Wednesday morning, it is. The high will be a warm 86 degrees today in Nashville, but by this weekend, we will cool down to the low 70’s for the high.

YESTERDAY

I had a great writing session with my friend Caroline Owens yesterday, as she brought a GREAT bluegrass song idea that was fun to write.

She’s excited about her new album that’s about to be released at the end of this month, that I’m excited about because “Telluride” is on that album, which I helped write.

AND…she had some great songwriter news to share. She just found out that a song she wrote with this year’s American Idol winner, Hannah Harper, is going to be one of the songs on Hannah’s first major album since she won that competition.

Some seriously good news for a songwriter. We celebrated that for sure. Caroline and Hannah were friends before American Idol and were writing songs and Hannah didn’t forget about this one. So yeah, Caroline and I had a fun celebratory kind of writing session yesterday.

BLAST ON THE BAY

Next Thursday I’ll be down in beautiful Port St. Joe, Florida for the “Blast on the Bay” songwriters festival.

Folks on the Gulf Coast are keeping an eye on a possible tropical storm-hurricane along that section of Florida, but it looks like Port St. Joe will be dealing with rain only, and they we’ll have almost perfect weather when the festival begins.

Yesterday, they released the full schedule.

I’ll be playing three shows this year. And as always, I am looking forward to this great festival.

SONG OF THE DAY

I’m choosing this fun, true story song titled, “The Ballad of Exit 199” from Paul Bogart, a song I wrote with Paul about how his second child was born in his truck while he and his wife were trying to make it to a hospital here in Nashville in time for delivery. They didn’t make it.

Every bit of this song is true, so take a listen. You’ll be as amazed as I was when Paul told me the story and I said to him, “Oh, we have GOT to write that!”

HEALTH NOTES

Actor Alan Alda says he uses humor to help him cope with Parkinsons.

Dr Drew Pinsky likens smartphones to a ‘crack pipe’ in warning over behavioral addictions.

A researcher has listed 3 drinks that he claims will help us live longer. They are:

Purified water. Six or seven glasses a day. That helps with your blood pressure and keeps you hydrated.

Coffee. Drink it black, two cups a day before noon.

Red wine. It helps you live longer, the researcher says.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

How big are your feet?  There might be a job waiting for you.

HAPPIEST PLACE?

I don’t know anymore. I love Disney World. The first time I ever went, the Magic Kingdom was the only park they had. Now they have four parks.

And the lowest ticket price is a one-day pass to the Magic Kingdom for $140. A multi-park pass is $300 and more.

I still love it, but man, a family of four? You’d have to save up for a while.

If I had to pick a favorite ride or attraction in each of the 4 parks?

MAGIC KINGDOM

The Haunted Mansion.

I’m still trying to figure out how they got that talking into that crystal ball.

EPCOT

That’s my favorite park of the four. And I’ll take Soarin’ as my favorite attraction-ride.

It does feel like you’re flying a bit.

ANIMAL KINGDOM

I’ll take the Avatar attraction.

Really amazing. You get on a bike like thing and fly.

MGM STUDIOS

Tower of Terror. The first drop will take your breath away.

I did my radio show at the MGM Studio Park along with several other radio stations from across the country for the parks Grand Opening event.  We had the run of the place. So, our little group was amongst the first to get on that elevator that drops, goes back up, and drops again. More than worth doing.

Maybe don’t eat a big meal before boarding.

BIG BOY

This is what an 844-pound alligator looks like.

It took a hunting team in South Carolina 4 years to get this guy named “Snaggletooth.”

There’s a reason why golfers don’t go near the water to look for their golf balls in that part of the country.

SPEAKING OF ANIMALS

There is an author in Minnesota who is offering $60,000 to anyone who can prove that the Loch Ness Monster is real. Scientific proof will be needed, whatever that means.

I’m waiting to see the picture of some guy taking a selfie with it.

I'm a little upset because he wouldn't pay me when I found out Bigfoot is real.

MY KIND OF CHRISTMAS PRESENT

A coffee advent calendar.

24 different roasts of coffee to check out during the holiday season. Dear Santa, I’ll take one.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Sam Levenson:

“Don’t watch the clock; do what it does. Keep going.”

TODAY

This evening I’ll be playing some songs at a charity event for Mercy Chefs with my friends Linda Davis, Lang Scott, Bobby Tomberlin and Tess Frizzell. Mercy Chefs is a great organization that provides food for disaster workers around the globe. Happy to be a small part of this tonight.

Have a great Wednesday!

The Bluebird Show...Pet Marriage...Tourist Attractions

BILL BLOG Thursday, August 6, 2026   Thursday morning, a little bleary-eyed. We’re back in the heat again today, with a high of 91 expected in Nashville.    I was up late last night, so the Blog is being posted just a little later than normal this morning.     YESTERDAY What a magical night at the Bluebird Café for the 9 pm songwriter show Wil Nance , Mo Pitney, and Brady Seals .      The place was packed, as it always is with folks from far and wide, including a nice couple who made the trip from Alberta, Canada, just to come to the Bluebird Café. And I don’t think they went home disappointed.   Wil Nance kicked us off with the great song he helped write for George Strait, “ Where Have I Been All My Life, ” and also performed his smash hit, “She’s Everything for Brad Paisley .   Curb Recording Artist Mo Pitney sang “ Fiddle Around, ” which he wrote with Wil and a couple of great new tunes. Mo is one of the...
