Album Release Party...Injury Lawyers...Splooting

Hello Tuesday morning. 82 will be the high temperature in Music City today.

YESTERDAY

I wrote a new country song with the Connor Brothers, Spencer and Hatcher along with my buddy Steve Dean.

The brothers have been out on the road touring but have a little break in their schedule that will give them some time to write new songs, like the one we wrote yesterday at their publishing company south of Nashville.

The brothers are from Virginia, and they have a bluegrass background. Here’s taste of that in this fun little CLIP they filmed with bluegrass artist Kody Norris and his band. That’s Spencer showing off his banjo picking skills, playing at a rapid pace.

Spencer’s record label is releasing “country” songs on him, for a good reason, and he has a great country voice.

We had a great time yesterday for sure.

AN ALBUM PARTY

I got this great invitation yesterday from my friend and co-writer Caroline Owens.

Her new album is being released October 30, that has the #1 song “Telluride” on it that I wrote with Andrea Pearson. Caroline and Billy Blue Records is throwing a party on that Friday evening. I’m glad that I’m not on the road that weekend and will be able to join that celebration.

Drop by and join us if you can.

SONG OF THE DAY

Brent Burns and I write a lot of funny songs, and beach songs. But there are also a few songs that don’t fit that category like this one, “Better Live It Up,” that’s one of my favorites. The thought being, you’d “better live it up, before they put you down.”

HEALTH NOTES

A little scary. A Russian plague lab death has triggered sweeping precautions as the US watches the mystery closely.

New York has now declared a state disaster over measles outbreak in rural communities.

California is set to be the first state to halt production of quartz used for countertops, because of mounting cases of lethal lung disease for the workers who cut it.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Thanks to whomever did that!

And here’s a little true story about an injury lawyer. In Milwaukee, and injury lawyer paid for an ad that was posted on the ceiling of ambulances. So you’re laying there in an ambulance being transported to a hospital, and you look up and read, “If you’ve been injured in an accident…call…”. Ya can’t make that stuff up folks.

FORECLOSURES

They are up some 42% from a year ago. The states with the most foreclosures are Georgia, Illinois, California, Texas, and the most foreclosures are in Florida.

SPLOOTING

I had no idea what that word meant until I read an article about squirrels doing this.

They assume that position to try and keep cool. And there’s a lot of “splooting” going on in California because of the heat wave out there.

I’ve seen squirrels do this on the railing of our deck. I just didn’t know they were “splooting.”

YOU MIGHT BE A REDNECK IF…

You’re pulled over by cops driving a couch. Uh huh.

That just happened in North Carolina. The couch was stretched over two electric scooters and a couple of buddies took it for ride. That gives new meaning to “couch potatoes”

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Tommy Cooper:

“I went window shopping today. I bought four windows.” (Gotta love folks who do what they say.)

TODAY

Since I mentioned Caroline Owens above, it’s appropriate that I’ll be writing with her this morning. It will be great to get some more details on her album-release-party coming up at the end of the month.

 Have a great Tuesday!

The Bluebird Show...Pet Marriage...Tourist Attractions

BILL BLOG Thursday, August 6, 2026   Thursday morning, a little bleary-eyed. We’re back in the heat again today, with a high of 91 expected in Nashville.    I was up late last night, so the Blog is being posted just a little later than normal this morning.     YESTERDAY What a magical night at the Bluebird Café for the 9 pm songwriter show Wil Nance , Mo Pitney, and Brady Seals .      The place was packed, as it always is with folks from far and wide, including a nice couple who made the trip from Alberta, Canada, just to come to the Bluebird Café. And I don’t think they went home disappointed.   Wil Nance kicked us off with the great song he helped write for George Strait, “ Where Have I Been All My Life, ” and also performed his smash hit, “She’s Everything for Brad Paisley .   Curb Recording Artist Mo Pitney sang “ Fiddle Around, ” which he wrote with Wil and a couple of great new tunes. Mo is one of the...
