BILL BLOG

Man, Monday comes around way too soon. We just went through 114 heat index degrees this past weekend, and it’s not cooling off a bit. It’s so hot in Nashville that the biscuits are melting. 95 degree high here today.
THE WEEKEND
It was a very non-eventful weekend. I had nothing on the calendar that I had to do, so I didn’t. There was a funny episode where my co-writer buddy Brady Seals made me laugh out loud.
I had posted a picture of singer Ingrid Andress promoting that she was going to be on the Grand Ole Opry.
Ingrid was the young artist who was drunk trying to sing the national anthem at the Major League Baseball All Star Game that was a pretty bad moment for her and her career. If you’ve forgotten, here’s that cringe VIDEO.
So…I posted that if the Opry EVER invited me to sing, that I would have to dress that way as well, I guess. And that’s when my friend Brady posted this very forgettable picture.
I think I snorted coffee out when I saw that. Thank you for the laugh, Brady. Doubtful that the Opry will ever invite me to sing. BUT, if they do, I can promise I won’t wear that outfit, AND I’ll be sober.
BEACH SHOWS AHEAD
I mentioned in my last blog how my longtime friend Brent Burns and I have scheduled a show in Gulf Shores on September 10, a Thursday night at Tuscany Pizza and Grill in Gulf Shores, a GREAT Italian restaurant.
All the details are on the poster.
And then the very next day, Friday, September 11, Brent and I will be playing on a big stage on the Beach for the “Biloxi Box Set” Parrot Head event in Biloxi, Mississippi.
That’s going to be a fun run to the beach.
RIGHT BACK TO THE BEACH
Then, October 15-18, I’ll be at the “Blast on the Bay” songwriter festival in Port St. Joe, Florida.
And when that festival wraps up, I’ll drive over to Gulf Shores, Alabama for MOTM, “Meeting of the Minds,” the big Parrot Head festival. I have a 10:45 AM Show on Thursday the 22nd, with more shows to be added.
I’m looking forward to being on the beach again playing songs.
GREAT IDEA ALEX
Check out this little VIDEO from my friend Alex Miller, who I will be writing with later today. Alex is looking for a duet partner to the song the two of us wrote with Emily Ann Roberts, “More Country Than You” wherever he’s playing at on tour. It’s such a fun song, and now, if Alex is playing near you, you might be able to sing our song WITH him. Very cool.
SONG OF THE DAY
Speaking of Brent Burns, here’s a “beach” song I wrote with him, “Tiki Hut,” that won the Trop Rock Award for “Best Album” one year. The album has that title. By clicking on the link, you’ll see me singing a “ live” version of it with a full band. I sang this at Lauren Mascitti's “Trop Rock” event where she premiered her beach album. Check it out.
HEALTH NOTES
A study shows that those who walk stairs have a 39% lower chance of dying from cardiovascular disease.
The top 5 states for medical malpractice in the United States are, starting at 5, New Jersey, Florida, Pennsylvania, New York, and the worst is New Mexico. North Dakota has the LEAST cases.
Researchers have found that a surprising number of individuals feel lonely often, and that some of the loneliest people live in urban areas. Almost 1 in 6.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Here’s to all those moms!
STILL WORKING
The latest research claims that half of all workers feel like they will never retire. And there are myriad reasons. Inflation worries, not having enough money, doubts about Social Security, and on and on.
And then some, like me, don’t consider what they’re doing work.
Of course, most, or at least more than half, ARE retired and love it. As one retiree said, “Retirement is the only job where doing nothing is the goal.”
SPEAKING OF GOLF
Nashville will be the first city to have an 18-hole indoor golf course. The place is called City Golf.
18 simulators and 18 real greens for putting and chipping. A full round to play will take about 2 hours. And, it ain’t cheap. It looks to be a “membership” deal, with an initiation fee of $2,000 and monthly dues around $300.
I don’t see me dropping that kind of money to play golf. The course I play is a lot cheaper.
HEAD SCRATCHER
A New York politician actually said this, “Thieves have a biological need. Let them shoplift!”
That would be Emily Gallagher, and Assembly Woman in NY.
MEANWHILE
In the state of Arizona, a grandma chased a shoplifter with her gun.
Which one would you vote for?
PIRATES FOR THE SIXTH TIME
Johnny Depp is in negotiations to play “Captain Jack Sparrow” for the sixth time in a new Pirates of the Caribbean” movie.
What a great character, and I don’t think there’s anyone else that could be better in that role than Johnny is. Can’t wait to see it.
And if you have not seen Johnny surprising Disney World tourists dressed up like Jack Sparrow on the Pirates of the Caribbean boat ride, watch THIS.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From ole Anonymous:
“If each day is a gift, I’d like to know where to return Mondays.”
TODAY
Writing with a “country” couple today. I’m joining Alex Miller, and for the second time, the reigning Bluegrass Female Vocalist of the Year, Jaelee Roberts, will join us. Jaelee is a noted member of the highly awarded all-girl bluegrass group Sister Sadie.
Jaelee is also a wonderful solo artist as well. This is her new single (which I wish I had written); that’s just so good. Check out “Memories on the Moon.”
Should be a fun session this morning.
Have a great Monday!
