And a good Friday morning to you. Got a guitar ready to be loaded into a van this morning for a trip to Mountain City, Tennessee, with Linda Davis and Lang Scott in a few hours.
89 degrees for the high in Music City, but cooler in Mountain City. The high there will only be 77 degrees, mixed with some rain.
YESTERDAY
It was mostly a day of tying up loose ends and getting ready for this road trip to East Tennessee. Running through some songs, pre-loading some equipment, and making sure I have all my road ducks in a row.
But I also devoted a couple more frustrating hours trying to fix my new iPhone 17 situation, which has been a cluster, you know what, since I upgraded. Yesterday, I found out that the process and paperwork are so screwed up that I have to send my brand-new phone, which is working great, back to AT&T, and they’ll be sending me a new one, and I’ll have to download all my data before I do. It’s been a bit since I dealt with anything this frustrating.
My advice is NEVER to buy a phone from just any AT&T franchise store. Make sure you go to a corporate store. Or, do as my wife did, order one online and then just download your data onto your new phone yourself.
GATLINBURG
Normally, I would be at the Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival this weekend with a bunch of my songwriter buddies.
I will certainly miss being there for that. But if you are near Gatlinburg this weekend, drop by the Gatllinburg Inn and catch part of this great musical festival.
SONG OF THE DAY
The new Kristy Cox single, “No Regrets,” that I wrote with my friends Lauren Mascitti and Kristen Bearfield is out today!
It’s the first single off Kristy’s new album that will be released in October. I had a start on this song the day I joined Kristen and Lauren; they loved it, and we finished it up together. We got it to Kristy; she loved it, and here we are with a brand-new song for the “Song of the Day.” Thank you, Kirsty, and thank you to my buddy Jerry Salley, who produced and sang on this song out on Billy Blue Records now.
NORWAY LISTENING
Early this morning, I got a little video clip from Kristen Bearfield, one of the writers on “No Regrets.” She’s in Norway right now with the group “High Road.”
She sent me a clip of her listening to our new song on Sirius-XM's "Bluegrass Junction" channel while driving in Norway! Pretty cool. Thank you Kristen.
HEALTH NOTES
A study claims that coffee drinking is linked to less abdominal fat, more muscle, and better hormone balance.
The use of weight-loss drugs has surged 140% from 2022 to 2024.
A new Gallup survey reveals that drinking remains at an all-time low. The number of Americans who drink alcohol is now 54%.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Ain’t that the truth!
NOT WORKING AS MUCH
Only 1/3rd of all teenagers are working summer jobs this year. 30 years ago, half of all teens were working in the summer.
My summer jobs included hauling hay, mowing cemeteries with my brothers, working at a grocery store, working in a factory, and working at a one-pump gas station, running out and filling up cars, checking the oil, and washing the windshield.
And look what a career I made out of that!
DARTH IN COURT
This has got to be a first. A guy in a Darth Vader costume walks into a court in San Diego defending those “flock” cameras that can read and record our license plate numbers.
Darth Vader’s argument to the judge was this.
“This is what the emperor needs. The technology will help us find the rebel scum and the hidden base of “Hoth.”
May the force, and a psychologist, be with that guy.
JOKE
My wife got stung by a bee on her forehead. She’s at the ER now. Luckily, I was close enough to hit the be with my shovel.
A WHALE OF A MUSEUM
Well, it’s certainly beautiful to look at.
A new whale museum that will open sometime in 2027. Anything you want to know about whales, you’ll find it there. Something whale enthusiasts can plan for, I suppose.
DRONING ON
Walmart, Amazon, and others are already dropping off packages from a drone. They are not always accurate with their drops.
Yep, that one dropped a package in a woman’s swimming pool in Dallas. And it wasn’t dropping an inner tube. Surely, the operator was sent back to “aiming” school.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From King Louis XIV:
“I could sooner reconcile all Europe than two women.”
TODAY
Road trip to this beautiful town in the Tennessee mountains.
Mountain City, Tennessee. It’s a good 5 hours over, but we’ll get there in time to have dinner with some of the organizers and VIP’s this evening, and then our “Evening in the Round” show tomorrow night at the Heritage Hall Theatre.
And since I’m going to be in a car with Lang and Linda for the next couple of days, I want to share this VIDEO of the two of them singing “Old Flames” on Larry’s Country Diner TV show recently, with guitar player Ben Hall playing along. Just an extra musical bonus for the Blog today.
Have a great weekend!
