Tuesday morning has arrived.
YESTERDAY
I wrote a new song with my New Hampshire friend Rick Lang, who just happens to be up for the Songwriter of the Year Award this year from the bluegrass folks.
And later this morning I’ll write with another nominee, Tim Stafford. So I’m most surely writing with some talented folks.
Rick and I wrote a country-bluegrass kind of song yesterday, from an idea we had kicked around a couple of months ago. It was a fun day of writing, and even better day of conversation between the rhymes.
A ZOO
I heard a lot of noise coming from outside the house yesterday. Turns out, it was these guys honkin’ away like there was no tomorrow.
Add the geese to the raccoons, squirrels, rabbits, turkeys, groundhogs, foxes, and a LARGE family of deer. We must have as many as 10-15 deer regularly lying out in our backyard. Every late Spring we get to see the new fawns arrive, and later in the summer we see some of them sprout horns and turn into bucks.
The biggest benefit is that I never have to fertilize our lawn.
SONG OF THE DAY
Today I’m going with Lauren Mascitti’s song, “Never Been In Love Like This,” that I wrote with her and my friend Wil Nance. One of the first songs we wrote together.
Shortly after that writing session, Lauren went on American Idol, and shortly after that she recorded a great album, “God Made A Woman,” which was declared one of the best albums of the year in 2020.
The song we wrote is on that album. Lauren is a big Crystal Gayle fan, as I am, after working with Crystal when I was young and wearing an Elvis jumpsuit on stage. And I think this song sounds like a Crystal Gayle type of song.
FYI
Wil Nance, who co-wrote the song I just mentioned, will join me, Mo Pitney, and Brady Seals at the Bluebird Café tomorrow night for the 9 pm feature show. Should be a heck of a fun show.
HEALTH NOTES
A new study shows daily marijuana use passes alcohol and cigarette use.
Must-see TV. Pittsburgh QB Aaron Rodgers on the Pat McAfee show yesterday went off on Dr. Fauci. Aaron caught a lot of flak for not taking the vaccine, and/or being against it. He fired back on McAfee’s show after Dr. Fauci invoked the 5th over 100 times during a Senate hearing.
Experts claim that diarrhea-ridden cyclosporiasis victims are poised to collect thousands as the outbreak has now claimed its first lives.

FAIR SEASON
I love Fair Season because you can see some really weird things and events at fairs.
In Iowa, they have the Husband Calling Contest. How many husbands answer? I have no idea.
Also in Iowa, there’s a rubber-chicken-throwing contest.
And it’s really hard not to go to a fair that has Spam sculpting as a contest.
Bring on the fairs!
NO DRIVER
Every time one of those self-driving Waymos pulls up next to me, it’s head-shaking weird not to see a driver behind the wheel. However, a new study has concluded that the Waymo robotaxis have been found to crash 68% less than cars that have a driver behind the wheel.
I’m guessing part of the reason is that no driver is scrolling through his cellphone while driving. I have a friend with a self-driving Tesla who speculates that one day insurance rates will be higher for those who do not own a self-driving vehicle. Kind of makes sense.
AND
The price of gas may have more folks considering a self-driving electric car. BP profits have doubled since the war with Iran began. It’s a good time to be this guy.
HOW POPULAR IS COUNTRY MUSIC?
For the first time, country songs make up the top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. Mama, start teaching your kids country songs.
Ella Langley’s monumental success with her hit, “Choosin' Texas” has a lot to do with what’s happening with country songs crossing over to top the all-genre chart.
