And now we have Tuesday. The temperature will drop just below 90 for the first time in a while here in Nashville. 89 is our high today.

YESTERDAY

Monday was a busy day of writing songs. It started with a songwriting session with Alex Miller and Jaelee Roberts, and we chased an idea that Alex had yesterday. Alex plays great guitar, and Jaelee is terrific at throwing out ideas and lots of great lyrics, so it was a great collaborative effort.

We compared calendars after we were done and discovered how busy all three of us are.

Jaelee is part of the group Sister Sadie. She and the girls head to Nebraska the first of September.

Alex will be in my home state of Missouri this weekend, in Higbee, Missouri, to play their County Fair.

And I’ll be in Mountain City, Tennessee this Saturday night with Linda Davis and Lang Scott

LAST EVENING

I got online to “tweak” a bluegrass song that I wrote with Tim Stafford. Tim found out that a noted bluegrass artist wants to record our song on what will be a very special album coming out by year’s end. The kind of album every songwriter wants to be on. So…we polished it a bit, and added a bit, and now we’re hoping the artist likes it. Stay tuned for more on this song, and thank you, Tim, for getting our song to the artist.

DOES HE LOVE YOU

Caroline Owens, one of my co-writers and a new bluegrass star who had a #1 song recently that I wrote with Andrea Pearson titled “Telluride,” went out to our Tennessee State Fair this past Sunday night to see Linda Davis, Lang Scott, and their youngest daughter Rylee performing.

Caroline is a huge fan of Linda’s (who isn’t), and the three of us wrote a really cool tune together recently.

So…when Linda spotted Caroline, she got her up on stage to help her sing “Does He Love You.” Check THIS OUT. I don’t think Caroline has come down from Cloud 9 quite yet.

SONG OF THE DAY

Brent Burns wanted to write a song about Baby Boomers. And I know a lot of you are part of that group, as I am. We did, and it became the title track for one of his albums. Listen to this SONG and see how many of the events you can remember.

HEALTH NOTES

Migraine headaches are experienced by 12-15% of Americans, but women are 3 times more likely to get them. Research claims that stress is a factor. And researchers are also suggesting that frequent exercise may help hold a migraine off. (If used to deal with those. Not fun. If you’ve had them, you know)

Good news. Drug prices have dipped 3.1% in the past year. That’s the steepest drop since 1963.

Americans are ditching lettuce at record rates. Prices have dropped more than 16% in July as compared to June, due to the cyclospora outbreak. Not the greatest of times to be a lettuce farmer.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Got that?

BLOWOUTS

What are the odds? Two American Airlines flights landed in Chicago about 3 hours apart. BOTH planes suffered tire blowouts.

Everyone was fine, and I think they sent a NASCAR pit crew over the wall to change the tires. Not sure. I am sure that I don’t want to be on a plane that has a blowout when it lands.

UGLY DOG

In Santa Rosa, California, the “World’s Ugliest Dog Contest” just celebrated its 50th anniversary. And here’s this year’s winner.

That rescue pug is named “Jinny Lin,” from South Korea. Being ugly has a reward. Jinny won $5,000. Jinny’s runner-up got $3,000, and the third ugliest dog took home $2,000.

Being ugly ain’t always a bad thing.

CHINESE SPY

A congressman is in trouble for dating a Chinese spy. Her name is “Fang Fang.” I’m not sure which is worse. The congressman dating a spy, or the parents who named their daughter “Fang Fang.”

I’d like to thank my parents for not naming me “Bill Bill.”

COMEDY RECORD

Nate Bargatze just broke a record for selling the most tickets for a comedy tour…EVER. Nate has sold over 2 million tickets for his “Big Dumb Eyes Tour.” And he doesn’t drop one dirty word in his act. It’s paid off.

I still laugh at his “book reading” routine every time I hear it.

Nate lives in the same area my wife and I do, and by everyone’s word he’s just a down-to-earth nice guy kabillionaire. AND…he’s getting ready to build a theme park in Nashville that will be called “Nateland.”

IT AIN’T CHEAP TO RETIRE

According to Investopedia, a single person would need $899,000 to retire comfortably. If they retire early at 62, they’ll need $1.2 million. No wonder so many continue to work after age 65.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Mr. Anonymous again:

If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse."

TODAY

I’m back in a writing room with the Hatcher Brothers, Spencer & Connor, along with my friend Steve Dean. The last time the four of us wrote, we wrote a song that became Spencer’s current single, “HotWeather, Cold Beer,” which he’s singing in all of his shows as he tours the country this summer.

I wouldn’t mind having that kind of good luck again today.

Have a great Tuesday!
