Cell Phone Problems...Been There, Drunk That, Bluebird Cafe Tonight

BILL BLOG

Over the hump we try to go. It’s Wednesday. Warm today, with a high of 89 expected in Nashville.

YESTERDAY

I wrote a fun “quirky” kind of song with Tim Stafford online yesterday. Something I had started, something he liked, something he polished and made better. True co-writing right there.

Tim has been the Bluegrass Songwriter of the Year in the past, and is up for that award again this year come October. You’re in pretty good writing hands when you’re in with a Songwriter of the Year winner, as well as being Best Guitar Player in that genre. Here’s an example of Tim’s guitar skills.

Always a pleasure writing with Tim.

PHONE HELL

I spent way too much of my Monday trying to figure out my phone problems, because every app I touched wouldn't open. Guess what the phone folks told me? Yep. New phone time. I went from a 13 to a 17, but not without sitting for a long time transferring data from the old phone, and then an even longer time trying to figure out how to sign in to some apps. Fun stuff.

I will say the sales rep could not have been more patient, and never once said, “Here’s how you do that dimwit.  God bless her. I’ll be going back to ask a couple more questions today. Just when I needed her, my teenage daughter grew up on me and moved away.

SONG OF THE DAY

Since I’m playing a show with Brady Seals tonight, here’s the first song Brady and I ever wrote together, “Been There, Drunk That,” that got up into the lower 30’s on the Billboard Country Chart the year it was released. Maybe Brady will sing it later tonight.

HEALTH NOTES

Chipotle announced it has pulled jalapeños from its menu as public health officials investigate the source of a salmonella outbreak. (I’m starting to feel like it’s not safe to eat out anywhere)

Some research shows that Viagra can help stop cancer from spreading. True. The findings published in Cancer Research suggest sildenafil…Viagra’s active ingredient, sildenafil, interferes with metastasis by disrupting cancer cells’ cholesterol supply.

The FDA has issued a recall for ready-made meals at Kroger, Publix, and more.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

I’m thinking those kids will have to have their clothes laundered when they get home from school.

READY FOR PUMPKIN?

It’s coming sooner and sooner. Anything pumpkin. Starbucks will have Pumpkin Spice drinks available starting later this month. August 25 to be exact.  I don’t think pumpkin anything should be available until it turns cooler. When it’s hot, like it will be in most places on August 25, I’m thinking more lemonade than pumpkin. Just me?

THE VOICE

After 30 years, Carson Dailey will no longer be the “guy” at The Voice. His schedule has gotten too busy. The new announcer will be Keke Palmer.

It’s hard to believe that show has been on air for 30 years. Wow. And I’ve written with a lot of those contestants through the years, including Emily Ann Roberts, who is Alex Miller’s duet partner on “More Country Than You,"that I'm a writer on.

Like a lot of fans of the show, I miss Blake Shelton being a judge, and I think I’ll miss Carson Dailey no longer anchoring the show.

NO SHOE, NO CLOTHES, NO PROBLEM

That would be the case on the first Monday of the month at a steakhouse in Hollywood, Florida, as they invite their patrons to come in and eat naked.

Customers are given a seat cushion to sit on, and a lap towel to cover up if they’d like. I wonder what conversation is like over THAT dinner table.

And I'd be careful with the hot sauce bottle.

BUC-EE’S

They are aggressively suing any store that’s using a beaver for a logo. Like this Mini Mart in Ohio.

They are protecting their brand, big time.

Best thing to do is use another animal if you’re going to use one as your brand. I’d go with a hamster. Nobody is using that one to my knowledge.

It does make me wonder, though if this guy shouldn't sue Buc-ee’s for trade infringement.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Albert Einstein:

Logic will get you from A to Z. Imagination will get you everywhere.”

TODAY

I’ll be getting prepped for tonight’s great songwriter show at the Bluebird Café with fellow songwriters Wil Nance, Brady Seals, and Curb Recording Artist Mo Pitney.

The show is sold out, as all shows are at the Bluebird, but there may be a few walk-ups available.

Should be a really fun night.
