The Jeans Song...Cheat Sheets...Gatlinburg Bound

BILL BLOG

Thursday August 14, 2025

Thursday morning is on us, boys and girls, and it’s starting to get really hot again after some rain cooled things off just a bit. 92 for the high today in Nashville, and by Monday, we’ll be getting close to 100 again.

YESTERDAY

I wrote with two young, talented guys in Sonny French and Angus Gill, yesterday morning. Angus and I have written a lot, but it was the first time writing with young Sonny, who is part of the French Family Band. I write some with his talented Father Stuie, and the Father and Son both are terrific guitar players.

The family is getting ready to record a few more songs, and Sonny told us they were looking for a couple of up-tempo tunes, so that’s what we wrote yesterday.

Angus, too, is a talented musician, plays a lot of different instruments, so it was fun for me to get to hear both of them playing on this new song. Now I’m going to hope that Sonny’s Mom and Dad love this new song as well!

BLUEBIRD

Congrats to my Trop Rock buddy Donny Brewer, who got to play at the Bluebird Café last night for the first time. Every songwriter wants to have that privilege at least once in their life. Still the greatest room ever for songwriters.

Donny chose to do a funny song that the two of us wrote that asks the question, “How the hell she’d get in those jeans”?  He sent me a video of that from last night, and it just killed the audience…lots of laughter. I wish I could attach that “live” video but I can’t right now. But here’s the THE SONG off Donny’s new album. Enjoy.

TELLURIDE

I love this fun video from Caroline Owen, who’s teasing the new song “Telluride” that I wrote with Andrea Pearson. It’s Caroline’s brand-new single, which will be released everywhere in a few weeks. And this VIDEO shows off Caroline’s fun side for sure.

MORE COUNTRY THAN YOU

And then I found this very FUN VIDEO of my young friends Alex Miller and Emily Ann Roberts singing an acoustic version of the duet the three of us wrote for them, “More Country Than You”. Click on the link to watch the really fun chemistry between these two singing that song.

SONG OF THE DAY

Speaking of Caroline, this is a brand-new song I wrote with Lauren Mascitti and Caroline Owens. Lauren’s idea, “Cheat Sheets”. Yes, yours truly wrote a “boy-bashing” song with these two young ladies. I lost my Man Card that day.

Lauren was in my songwriter show Tuesday night here in town, and sang it for the first time. Check out this VIDEO to hear it.

HEALTH NOTES

Kellogg’s just became the first company to sign a legally binding agreement removing toxic dyes from cereals.

Illinois just became the third state to restrict the use of AI in the mental health industry as experts warn of “AI psychosis”.

A new Gallup Poll reveals that Americans are drinking less. An all-time low for drinking was just recorded.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

I’m pretty sure that space is reserved for Noah and his big boat.

SAME DAY

Amazon has added 1,000 new cities for its same-day grocery delivery service. We want what we want, and we want it right now, don’t we?  For many, it’s worth paying a premium to have what you want dropped off at your door in a timely fashion.

I know we’re doing our part to keep Amazon wealthy as it seems there’s a box at our door every day. What’s that joke?

My wife didn’t order anything from Amazon yesterday, so the courier guy knocked on the door today to check if we were okay.”

CHECK THIS OUT

In case you can't see it...the license plate is "U Next".

Uh…I don’t wanna be next y’all. Someone has a “morbid” sense of humor…literally. The car was found parked at a gym. So the driver was working out…while someone was laid out in the car…I guess.

COFFEE FOR KIDS

How about the Dad and kid on Shark Tank who got a 5-figure deal for their coffee for kids called Kiid Coffee.

It’s sugar-free, decaf, has multiple flavors, and is supposedly healthy for kids to drink.  Who would have thought you could sit down at the breakfast table and talk to your 4-year-old over coffee?

TODAY’S HEADLINE

Student’s Cook And Serve Grandparents. (Just a LITTLE re-wording might have been appropriate)

TODAY

My writing appointment for this morning had to be rescheduled, so that gives me plenty of time today to pack and get ready for run to Gatlinburg tomorrow. The Songwriters Festival at the Gatlinburg Inn runs Friday and Saturday. I’ll be playing 3 different songwriter shows with friends over the two days. The entire schedule is HERE at their website.

Have a great Thursday!

Pensacola...Writing With A Friend....Happy Memorial Day

BILL BLOG Monday May 26, 2025  And a good Memorial Day Monday morning to you from Pensacola, Florida.   THE WEEKEND Mine started Saturday morning by jumping the car with Steve Dean and making the trip from Nashville down here to beautiful Pensacola for this event with Freedom Sings USA.   The event was held at Warrior Beer Company in Pensacola, owned by veteran Gary Hefner .   We rolled into Pensacola around 5 pm Friday, dropped our bags at the hotel, and then made our way over to the Warrior Beer Company for a little meet and greet with our veterans.   Imagine my surprise when I found out that a long-time friend of mine, Larry Hudson , from nearby Gulf Shores, would be the veteran I would be writing with. More on that in a bit.     After our dinner, our songwriter group got on stage and sang a few songs.   After we wrapped up, we headed to a favorite Irish Pub, “McGuire’s,” and closed out the ...

New Song Recorded...Lulu...Book On The Way

BILL BLOG Friday April 25, 2025   Here comes the weekend. It’s Friday once again. A high of 71 today with more rain on the way.   YESTERDAY I wrote with young Taylon Hope for the first time in a long while. Taylon is now a Sophomore at Belmont, University here in Nashville, and she’s chasing her musical dreams. We were to write in person and then one of her professors scheduled a test that would have conflicted so we wrote online instead and created a fun song for her that will be something she can add to her set list when she’s out performing “live”.   I’m rooting for some of her dreams to come true as I am so many other young talents in this crazy creative town.   BURN ME DOWN An American Idol contestant from a year ago, Kennedy Reid reached out to me a few months ago through a producer friers asking for songs for consideration for an album she was going to record. I sent three or 4 songs and ,she recorded one of those that I w...

Friends Honored...Father's Day...Freedom Sings USA Trip

BILL BLOG Monday June 16, 2025   Another Monday has rolled around. And it’s a packing day for me with a road trip tomorrow to Illinois. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.   We will hit 85 for a high today in Nashville.   Meanwhile, over the weekend, the National Weather Service issued the “first-ever” heat warning for Alaska.   THE WEEKEND Friday morning, I wrote a new song with my friend Rick Lang , who was in town for a week’s worth of songwriting. Rick lives out in New Hampshire, but drives to Nashville at least once a month to write. He always brings great song ideas with him, and we wrote one of those Friday morning.  His “Blue Collar Gospel” album, “Songs of Rick Lang” has done very well for Billy Blue Records. I was blessed to be a writer on the title track that was recorded by our friend Jerry Salley with the Oak Ridge Boys .     And he’s working towards another full album project that will be kind of un...
