Ireland...Star on the Horizon...September Show Schedule

BILL BLOG

Thursday August 28, 2025

Thursday it is. 84 degrees high here in Music City today, and we have a couple of 90-degree high days on tap again. So, Fall is not quite hear yet…so pull the pumpkin-flavored everything off the shelves.

YESTERDAY

My writing session was with Jerry Salley and Kristy Cox. Jerry is the head guy at Billy Blue Records, and he’s written and produced Kristy’s records for a long while. Award-winning records in Australia, where Kristy is from originally. The two of them are writing and stacking up songs for her next project, which should be released late this year or early next year.

Both of them have been on the road quite a bit. In fact, Kristy is just back from a tour in Ireland.

We compared pictures and notes as both of us love the Emerald Isle. I showed her this picture of a VRBO my wife and I stayed in when we were there to marry my daughter.

Some kind of VRBO huh? And then the picture of the wedding site that she was familiar with in beautiful Northern Ireland.

I think anyone who’s been to Ireland wants to go back. Uh, and maybe get another pint of Guinness.

I brought the idea yesterday that Kristy loved, so we wrote towards that. There’s more work to be done on this one, so we’ll gather again in a couple of months to finish it up.

KATRINA

Here’s another fun tease of the song “Stones” from my friend Katrina Burgoyne that she’s releasing as a single soon. We wrote the song a couple of years ago, and both of us knew it could be a great song for her, and it has certainly been that in “live” performances, as the audience always lights up when she sings it. It’s fun to watch that for sure.

CONGRATS!

I’m so happy for my talented friend Emily Ann Roberts, who signed a deal with Sony Records yesterday. That was bound to happen, and the former Voice contestant’s talent is obvious to all. She is destined for great things as she’s a double threat. Not only does she sing great, but she has an INFECTIOUS personality. If you follow her on her socials, you already know that.

And I feel very blessed that she sang on a song that I wrote with her and Alex Miller, which made a little noise when the two of them recorded “More Country Than You”

Way to go Emily Ann!

SONG OF THE DAY

Something a little different. This is a jingle that my friend Steve Dean and I wrote in about 20 minutes that won a contest for a flooring company here in Nashville R&S Wood Flooring. The company has used our jingle in TV and Radio commercials for a long time. Heck, it even popped up on a movie theater screen once! I always joke on stage that it’s my most-played song ever on the radio. And it just might be. Check out our little JINGLE here.

SEPTEMBER

Here’s my show schedule for September, which is just a few days away.

September 4-6 in Marion, Illinois, with Freedom Sings USA writing songs with veterans.

Saturday, September 13, in Livingston, Tennessee, at Main and Monroe for two shows with Lauren Mascitti.

Saturday, September 20, at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum for a songwriter show with Steve Dean.

For more info on these shows and others, click the TOUR tab on my website.

HEALTH NOTES

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized COVID-19 vaccines for the fall…but only for high-risk groups.

A new wellness trend is at hand…or at fingers in this case. Professional back-scratching. Yep. Women with long fingernails are scratching your back. It’s already happening in Miami. And they say it’s good for you.

A man in China has received the world’s first-ever pig lung transplant in a groundbreaking medical procedure.

HERE'S YOUR SIGN

I'll keep my eyes wide open.

I DON’T WANT THIS

Actress Emma Stone claims that the first time she had to wear a corset for a film she was part of that her organs shifted. Uh…nope. I would have passed on that role. Call me crazy, but I don’t want to feel any of my organs shift. I like them where they are. I think that may have happened one time when I flew in an acrobatic airplane, but that’s for another time.

POWERBALL

It’s worth 950 million now after there were no winners from yesterday’s drawing. Wow. What would you possibly do with that kind of money?

Not all lotto winners buy wisely. Some buy some very odd things. Here are a few.

A fireworks factory.

A wrestling league.

One woman who won bought her sister breast implants. And now I’m trying to figure out what stupid thing I can buy if I win.

FUNNY MARRIAGE QUOTE

Don’t know who said it…but it’s funny.

Marriages are made in heaven. Then again, so are thunder, lightning, tornadoes, and hail”.

TODAY’S HEADLINE

This fake funny one from Babylon Bee…although there is some truth in this.

Local Man Would Rather Wander Store For Hours Than Ask For Help. (Been there)

TODAY

I’m writing with noted bluegrass artist Rebecca Frazier, who is also a gifted guitar player. My publisher helped set up this online writing session today after I asked him if he knew any artists from the state of Virginia who played well. I have an idea for a song that has Virginia roots in it, and I think Rebecca could be the perfect co-writer for this. We’ll be meeting officially online this morning to chase that idea. Looking forward to it.

Have a great Thursday!

Friends Honored...Father's Day...Freedom Sings USA Trip

BILL BLOG Monday June 16, 2025   Another Monday has rolled around. And it’s a packing day for me with a road trip tomorrow to Illinois. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.   We will hit 85 for a high today in Nashville.   Meanwhile, over the weekend, the National Weather Service issued the “first-ever” heat warning for Alaska.   THE WEEKEND Friday morning, I wrote a new song with my friend Rick Lang , who was in town for a week’s worth of songwriting. Rick lives out in New Hampshire, but drives to Nashville at least once a month to write. He always brings great song ideas with him, and we wrote one of those Friday morning.  His “Blue Collar Gospel” album, “Songs of Rick Lang” has done very well for Billy Blue Records. I was blessed to be a writer on the title track that was recorded by our friend Jerry Salley with the Oak Ridge Boys .     And he’s working towards another full album project that will be kind of un...

ACM Awards Show...Frank Brown Songwriters Festival...Mother's Day Weekend

BILL BLOG Friday May 9, 2025  Here we go sneaking into a weekend. It’s Friday. Just 71 for the high today in Nashville.   YESTERDAY My Thursday morning started online writing a new up-tempo bluegrass song with Troy Engle in Pennsylvania. Troy plays every instrument that has strings on it, sings, writes, produces…not much he can’t do musically. When he lived in Nashville, he hung out a lot with Tom T Hall , played on numerous recording sessions, and was out on the road playing some instrument with the likes of Eric Church , The Isaacs and a long list of country stars.   But several years ago, Troy moved back to PA with his family and plays some shows up there with his family band, but still does a lot of recording work from home. He told me yesterday that his daughter may enroll at a University in Nashville next year and that might bring him back to Music City. It would be great to have him here and get to work him in person more.   ...

New Song Recorded...Lulu...Book On The Way

BILL BLOG Friday April 25, 2025   Here comes the weekend. It’s Friday once again. A high of 71 today with more rain on the way.   YESTERDAY I wrote with young Taylon Hope for the first time in a long while. Taylon is now a Sophomore at Belmont, University here in Nashville, and she’s chasing her musical dreams. We were to write in person and then one of her professors scheduled a test that would have conflicted so we wrote online instead and created a fun song for her that will be something she can add to her set list when she’s out performing “live”.   I’m rooting for some of her dreams to come true as I am so many other young talents in this crazy creative town.   BURN ME DOWN An American Idol contestant from a year ago, Kennedy Reid reached out to me a few months ago through a producer friers asking for songs for consideration for an album she was going to record. I sent three or 4 songs and ,she recorded one of those that I w...
