Tuesday morning arises…with more heat on the way. 95 for the high, but the heat index has us soaring up to 115 today in Nashville. And I’m hearing some rumble of “heat” thunder early this morning as well.
YESTERDAY
I wrote with my Aussie (soon to be American) friend, Angus Gill, and a young 15-year-old artist, Kylie Paige, whom he brought with him. Kylee is from just north of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Angus is producing a country album for her.
Because Kylie is 15, her “Ma-Maw”, as she calls her, came with her. And she came bearing gifts. Amish bread and a grape salad. Bonus!
The three of us talked some, and Kylie said something in the conversation that led to the song we wrote yesterday. Fun, up-tempo, and about an ex-boyfriend. Not an uncommon writing subject for young girl artists. Ask Taylor Swift.
It was nice to meet her and Ma-Maw…and I think this might be a song Kylie and Angus choose to record next week when her studio time starts. We’ll see.
SONG OF THE DAY
Since I wrote with Angus yesterday, I’m making “Let’s Have A Drink, To Not Drinking Again”. That was an idea that the late Bill Gaither, funny man and songwriter, Aaron Wilburn. Aaron wanted to write that idea with Angus, our friend, with whom I also wrote songs with, died tragically of COVID before the two of them wrote that song.
Angus asked if I would help him write that song with our mutual friend Jerry Salley, who was very close to Aaron Wilburn as well. In fact, Jerry was one of the pallbearers at his funeral.
I think Aaron would have loved the song; may he rest in peace. Click that link above and take a listen.
HEALTH NOTES
Colorado football coach and Hall of Famer Deion Sanders revealed that he had bladder cancer, had it removed, and is doing well. Meanwhile, we lost legendary Chicago Cubs 2nd baseman and Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg to cancer yesterday. Is there anyone who doesn’t hate the “C” word?
A nutritionist claims that adults should consume most of their calories earlier in the day…before sunset.
A study claims that three in five liver cancer cases globally could be prevented by reducing obesity and alcohol consumption and increasing uptake of the hepatitis vaccine.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
I like the honesty of that sign.
US TRAVEL
Travel and Leisure just listed the most visited cities in the U.S. Here’s their top 5.
5…Alexandria, Virginia
4…Savannah, Georgia
3…Charleston, South Carolina (had been number 1 the past several years)
2…New Orleans
And the most visited? Santa Fe, New Mexico.
I travel a lot playing music, but of those top 5 cities, I’ve only worked in one. That would be New Orleans.
FORE!
This woman REALLY wanted to break a Guinness World Record. And so she did.
She wedged 711 golf tees into her hair, and that gave Anya Bannasch from California that coveted title. I’m pretty sure I know where she got those golf tees.
BORING
That’s the name of one of Elon Musk’s companies. Nashville made it official yesterday. His company Boring will be boring a tunnel from downtown Nashville to our airport. The tunnel will be called the Music City Loop and will run the 8 miles from the airport to downtown. A commute in that stretch takes as much as 18 minutes right now because of all of the traffic that keeps growing. With the Loop, you can travel it in 8 minutes.
Bring it on.
MARRIAGE JOKE
“My wife says I never listen, or something like that.”
OPRY 100
The Grand Ole Opry is celebrating 100 years. It is the longest continuing radio show in America, carried on WSM Radio, where I had the pleasure of working for many years.
The Opry polled their listeners and then compiled a list of the 100 greatest songs. Those songs are on an album that you can purchase at the Opry gift shop and on Amazon. The first single from the album is this one, “You’re Cheating Heart,” sung by Ashley McBryde.
All of the performances were pulled from “live” performances on the Opry stage. It might make a good Christmas gift for the country music lover. Here’s a look at the entire 100 SONGS and the performers of those songs.

TODAY
My writing appointment was cancelled this morning because of family issues, and we’ve rescheduled. So my day is open. But tonight I’ll be back at the Station Inn in Nashville to listen to the French Family Band, who are in the studio this week recording an album that will have at least one song I wrote with Stuie, who is the Dad in this family band. Excited for that.
Have a great Tuesday!
