More H O T...Baby Song...Bluebird Cafe Show Tonight

BILL BLOG

Wednesday June 25, 2025

Middle of the week…Wednesday. HOT. I mean hot. How hot? Yesterday, when I got in my car after my songwriting appointment, I had to keep my hands off the wheel for a bit until the AC cooled it down enough to touch. HOT.

Back up to 95 today, and then tomorrow?  We’ll hit 101 degrees. No heat index is involved with that. 101 REAL hot degrees. I may have to blow up the pool tomorrow.

YESTERDAY

I wrote with Katrina Burgoyne yesterday, who is releasing her new song tomorrow, that we wrote together, “American Dream”.

She’s living that now, as she has her visa, and is hoping to become an American citizen as soon as possible. She and her talented producer-husband welcomed their first baby to the world a few months ago, a baby girl. And yesterday she brought the song title of “Since I Had A Baby” and we wrote it as a fun look at the challenges of being a parent, and in particular, a Mom for the first time.

Katrina also played for me “Stones,” which is another song of ours that she has recorded that she will also be releasing somewhere down the road. This one is a little edgy and challenges the boy to be a man in their relationship. Here’s a look and listen at that song in this VIDEO of Katrina performing the song, with the songwriters sitting next to her on stage laughing pretty hard.

Yes…it’s always fun writing with Katrina because there are no holds barred in her songs.

SONG OF THE DAY

Since I’m playing at the iconic Bluebird Café tonight (more on that later), I’m choosing "How Lucky Am I” once again, as I wrote this with Jimmy Fortune, who will be one of the songwriters joining me tonight. The two of us wrote this, Sydni Perry, who is out on the road singing harmony and playing fiddle for Carrie Underwood.

The song, recorded by Kristy Cox, was written about my second Mom and former manager Dean Raymer.

HEALTH NOTES

Four countries-Austria, Czechia, Hungary and Slovakia have reported a spike in hepatitis A cases between January and May of this year.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. wants all of us to use wearable technology to track our health.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

 I hope they do too!

THEM AND US

Elon Musk just launched his robotaxis. And with that move, he just added another $ 19 billion to his bank account. And he doesn’t have to spend money on driver salaries, as there are no drivers. Cha Ching.

TRAILER FOR SALE

This one is for sale in New York in the Montauk region. The modular palace has 2 bedrooms with 1 and a half baths. It’s a trailer with a view of the water, so that raises its asking price. They only want 2.49 MILLION for it. Only.

Location, location, location. And there’s an entire trailer park there filled with multimillion-dollar mobile homes. Surely some “TrailerPark Sexy” women live there as described in the song that Brent Burns and I wrote about.

THE 4TH

I’ll be on the road the 4th of July headed home to Missouri for a couple of shows. But here in Nashville, you can get a FREE hot dog from Garth Brooks and his wife Trisha Yearwood at his bar on Lower Broadway.

While they last. And Garth & Trisha may serve it up to you.

How ya gonna top that? With relish maybe?

TODAY’S HEADLINE

Why A Minneapolis Neighborhood Sharpens A Gigantic Pencil Every Year. (Yea…and how big is that pencil sharpener?)

TODAY

My Pennsylvania bluegrass buddy Troy Engle is in town, so we’ll get to write in person for only the second time today. Most of the songs we’ve written over the years have been written online. Troy is one of the most gifted musicians that I get to write songs with, as he can play almost any instrument you can name.

TONIGHT

At 9 pm, I’ll be in a sold-out songwriters show at the Bluebird Cafe. Every show is sold out. It’s very hard to get a ticket there, but it’s surely worth it if you can grab one, no matter who is playing there.

Tonight, I’m with some of the best, as my friend and Hall of Famer Jimmy Fortune will join me and songwriters Wil Nance and Brian White. Those guys have written a ton of big hits for other folks. And I’m going to enjoy hearing them sing those songs in our circle tonight.

Have a great Wednesday!

ACM Awards Show...Frank Brown Songwriters Festival...Mother's Day Weekend

BILL BLOG Friday May 9, 2025  Here we go sneaking into a weekend. It’s Friday. Just 71 for the high today in Nashville.   YESTERDAY My Thursday morning started online writing a new up-tempo bluegrass song with Troy Engle in Pennsylvania. Troy plays every instrument that has strings on it, sings, writes, produces…not much he can’t do musically. When he lived in Nashville, he hung out a lot with Tom T Hall , played on numerous recording sessions, and was out on the road playing some instrument with the likes of Eric Church , The Isaacs and a long list of country stars.   But several years ago, Troy moved back to PA with his family and plays some shows up there with his family band, but still does a lot of recording work from home. He told me yesterday that his daughter may enroll at a University in Nashville next year and that might bring him back to Music City. It would be great to have him here and get to work him in person more.   ...

Friends Honored...Father's Day...Freedom Sings USA Trip

BILL BLOG Monday June 16, 2025   Another Monday has rolled around. And it’s a packing day for me with a road trip tomorrow to Illinois. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.   We will hit 85 for a high today in Nashville.   Meanwhile, over the weekend, the National Weather Service issued the “first-ever” heat warning for Alaska.   THE WEEKEND Friday morning, I wrote a new song with my friend Rick Lang , who was in town for a week’s worth of songwriting. Rick lives out in New Hampshire, but drives to Nashville at least once a month to write. He always brings great song ideas with him, and we wrote one of those Friday morning.  His “Blue Collar Gospel” album, “Songs of Rick Lang” has done very well for Billy Blue Records. I was blessed to be a writer on the title track that was recorded by our friend Jerry Salley with the Oak Ridge Boys .     And he’s working towards another full album project that will be kind of un...

Illinois Today...Some Nominations...Bluebird Tickets On Sale

BILL BLOG Wednesday June 18, 2025   Good morning from Heyworth, Illinois. We have a 74 degree high on tap here today with some rain mixed with the sun.   YESTERDAY Myself and 4 other Nashville songwriters made the trip from Nashville up to Heyworth for our Freedom Sings USA retreat here where today we will write some veteran stories into songs.   You know you’re in central Illinois when you roll past these bad boys.   This is our second trip to Heyworth, which is just 10 minutes away from Bloomington, Illinois. The event is held at the local American Legion Hall, where they treated me, Bobby Tomberlin , Steve Dean & Bill DiLuigi to a great dinner. And then the 4 of us played music for those gathered before we came back to the hotel to rest up for today.  Small town, great folks who are proud of their town, and patriotic.   LUCKY One of the founders of Freedom Sings USA is Don Goodman , who is also a hit writ...
