Last Night's Show...Team Building Today...Show Tomorrow Night

BILL BLOG

Friday May 2, 2025

Friday morning, and it’s the first weekend in May. 76 with rain today in Music City.

YESTERDAY

I had a great show at the Listening Room Café with my musical buddies Victoria Venier & Steve Dean.

We had the 6 pm show there last night and played to a great crowd of tourists from all over the country. As far away as Oregon. This is a great venue to play in town. It’s large and it’s truly a LISTENING room where the room is quiet which is perfect for a songwriter’s show. If you’re coming to town, I’d encourage you to take in a show there. Always fun.

COOL TOUR!

My friend Alex Miller who I write a lot with these days is getting ready to hit the road. And look what he named his tour.

His tour is named after the song I wrote with him and Emily Ann Roberts “Little More Country Than You” that they put out this year as a single that has done very well. First time I’ve ever had a dog-gone tour named after a song I wrote. Love it.

SONG OF THE DAY

Even though it’s been the “Song of the Day” before, it feels right to make “Little More Country Than You” today’s featured song. I had a lot of this idea written by the time I sat down with Alex Miller and Emily Ann Roberts over a year ago now thinking how fun it would be to write a duet with and for those two. Both with great personalities. Both of them love traditional country music, fun stuff, so this just fit them to a tee and it was not long before they took the song into the studio and recorded it. It reminds me a bit of some the kind of songs that Porter and Dolly, or Conway and Loretta used to record. Click the link above and listen if you’ve not heard the song yet.

HEALTH NOTES

Bread sold in 6 different states has been recalled after fragments of glass were discovered in the bread according to the FDA.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is directing the CDC to come up with treatments for measles using existing drugs in combination with vitamins and other modalities.

Meanwhile Virginia confirmed its first measles case. It’s a child under 4.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Sounds like a solid plan to me.

MAMA BEAR

A woman in Florida is walking with her dog when a Mama Bear starts running them down. The woman threw her bag of cookies at the bear and fortunately that bear became more interested in eating the cookies than it was in eating the woman and her dog.

So if you can’t afford bear spray when you’re out walking, take along a bag of Chip Ahoys.

WHO’S DRIVING?

Nobody. The first driverless semi-trucks are now running regular routes. Roundtrips between Dallas and Houston are already taking place. Ain’t nobody up in the cab saying “breaker breaker 1 9”.

I’ve read where President Trump wants all truck drivers to speak English. What language does a no-driver speak, I wonder?

BALONEY ICE CREAM

I’m trying to see if they wrapped a red rind around this ice cream box.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Woman Wakes Up One Day And Realizes ‘Apparently I’m A Cougar Now’ (Proof that sometimes a person needs to rollover and go back to sleep.)

TODAY

I’m off early this morning to the Omni Hotel in downtown Nashville with several other songwriters to participate in a team-building exercise with an insurance company that’s in town celebrating their top earners. Each songwriter will write six songs with six different groups. And we only have 30 minutes with each group to write those songs!

The two songs I’ve been assigned to parody are “She’s in Love With The Boy” by Trisha Yearwood and “Achy Breaky Heart” by Billy Ray Cyrus. Later this evening those groups will sing AND dance to those songs we write in just a half an hour.

This will be a challenge for sure…but it should also be great fun.

SATURDAY

I’m back with “Hits & Grins” to do a dinner show at Reba McEntire’s old place they now call Starstruck Farm. We’ll be playing inside the Grand Ole Barn for a 7:30 pm performance.

SUNDAY

I’ll be rooting for the Toby Keith horse “Render Judgement” in the Kentucky Derby.

Have a great weekend!

ACM Awards Show...Frank Brown Songwriters Festival...Mother's Day Weekend

BILL BLOG Friday May 9, 2025  Here we go sneaking into a weekend. It’s Friday. Just 71 for the high today in Nashville.   YESTERDAY My Thursday morning started online writing a new up-tempo bluegrass song with Troy Engle in Pennsylvania. Troy plays every instrument that has strings on it, sings, writes, produces…not much he can’t do musically. When he lived in Nashville, he hung out a lot with Tom T Hall , played on numerous recording sessions, and was out on the road playing some instrument with the likes of Eric Church , The Isaacs and a long list of country stars.   But several years ago, Troy moved back to PA with his family and plays some shows up there with his family band, but still does a lot of recording work from home. He told me yesterday that his daughter may enroll at a University in Nashville next year and that might bring him back to Music City. It would be great to have him here and get to work him in person more.   ...

Friends Honored...Father's Day...Freedom Sings USA Trip

BILL BLOG Monday June 16, 2025   Another Monday has rolled around. And it’s a packing day for me with a road trip tomorrow to Illinois. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.   We will hit 85 for a high today in Nashville.   Meanwhile, over the weekend, the National Weather Service issued the “first-ever” heat warning for Alaska.   THE WEEKEND Friday morning, I wrote a new song with my friend Rick Lang , who was in town for a week’s worth of songwriting. Rick lives out in New Hampshire, but drives to Nashville at least once a month to write. He always brings great song ideas with him, and we wrote one of those Friday morning.  His “Blue Collar Gospel” album, “Songs of Rick Lang” has done very well for Billy Blue Records. I was blessed to be a writer on the title track that was recorded by our friend Jerry Salley with the Oak Ridge Boys .     And he’s working towards another full album project that will be kind of un...

Illinois Today...Some Nominations...Bluebird Tickets On Sale

BILL BLOG Wednesday June 18, 2025   Good morning from Heyworth, Illinois. We have a 74 degree high on tap here today with some rain mixed with the sun.   YESTERDAY Myself and 4 other Nashville songwriters made the trip from Nashville up to Heyworth for our Freedom Sings USA retreat here where today we will write some veteran stories into songs.   You know you’re in central Illinois when you roll past these bad boys.   This is our second trip to Heyworth, which is just 10 minutes away from Bloomington, Illinois. The event is held at the local American Legion Hall, where they treated me, Bobby Tomberlin , Steve Dean & Bill DiLuigi to a great dinner. And then the 4 of us played music for those gathered before we came back to the hotel to rest up for today.  Small town, great folks who are proud of their town, and patriotic.   LUCKY One of the founders of Freedom Sings USA is Don Goodman , who is also a hit writ...
