Baseball Weekend...3 Shows This Week...Sasquatch City

BILL BLOG

Monday April 28, 2025

Monday morning has rolled around again. After a high of just 67 in Nashville yesterday, today the temperature will shoot up to an 85-degree high.

THE WEEKEND

It was pretty lazy around the Whyte House this weekend. But I did get out to catch my first baseball game of the season on Saturday night and watched our Nashville Sounds beat the Durham Bulls.

It was a great evening for baseball with temperatures just below 70 degrees. And I had the perfect view of the greatest baseball scoreboard ever.

Not a bad way to spend a Saturday night.

BUSY WEEK

This week will be much busier as it’s filled with songwriting appointments and I have three shows in a row at the end of the week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  All three shows are in town, one of them a private corporate gig on Friday morning. For more details on those shows, just click on the TOUR tab here on the website.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today I’m choosing the song “Willing” that I wrote with my buddy Steve Dean. A love song for sure, and a crowd favorite whenever our “Hits & Grins” trio performs it out “live”. Steve sings it as a duet with our “Hits & Grins” partner Victoria Venier. And we put it on the first of two CDs that we sell at our shows.

HEALTH NOTES

The USDA is threatening imports of beef from Mexico over fear of a flesh-eating parasite that’s spreading northward.

Over 63,000 pounds of rolled oats were recalled for potential plastic contamination by the company Grain Millers.

Data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that far fewer Americans die of stroke today than in years past. The decrease is due, in part to improvements in controlling major risk factors such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Not going to argue that.

SASQUATCH

How about the artist named Ryan Henry Ward in Seattle who plans to paint 1,000 Sasquatch paintings all over town? On homes, and doors, and walls, and wherever?

He’s a beloved muralist in Seattle, so the city is all for it.

MARRIAGE

This thought from a husband. “Every time my wife packs me a salad for lunch, all I want to know is what I did wrong.”

RETIREMENT

A survey reveals that 1.5 million is the magic number for retirement for most folks. That should get one through the rest of their lives…depending upon where they live.

One retiree says that “retirement is like one big sick day without the sick pay.”

BEER

A study concludes that Miller is America’s favorite beer at the moment. 30 states voted it as their favorite, so that’s about 60% of the country.

Coors came in second with 8 states on board. 3 states actually chose Guinness as their favorite. And Bud?  Only 4 states. Some are speculating that controversial ad campaign they ran with a trans-spokesperson is still to blame for their declining numbers.

I grew up near St. Louis where Budweiser was indeed the King of Beers. I can still hear the late Harry Caray promoting Bud while calling the Cardinal games back in the day.

But when I moved to Milwaukee for six years? It was the late Bob Uecker doing those funny Miller Beer commercials. Sometimes it depends on where you live as to what you order at the ballpark or the local bar.

GOODWILL

A lot of folks shop at thrift stores and Goodwill for clothes or shoes, etc. But there are some really ODD things that have been found in those kinds of stores as well.

A coffin, old dentures, prosthetic legs, and even this bad boy was found in a Goodwill store.

Who knew?

SPEAKING OF WEIRD

A snake fell out of the ceiling of a Mexican restaurant in Virginia and landed in and around the margarita glass of a couple during their “date night.” Check please!

Geez. I’m thinking the couple may go Italian on their next date night.

FREE BUCKS

How about the Brinks truck driving through Chicago with its back door coming open?  $300,000 fell out, and there was a mad scramble in the streets as those near raced to gather it up. None of it has been returned, and there have been no arrests yet.

Not a great look for a SECURITY operation having a back-door on a money truck NOT secured. Somebody had just ONE job and failed.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

I Regret $8,000 Procedure To Transform Into A Cat. (Yep. I’m sure coughing up hairballs loses its appeal.)

TODAY

It’s back to the songwriting table today with Alex Miller, whose new duet with Tracy Byrd will be released in the next few days, titled “The Byrd”. Alex got to know Tracy when he opened a show for him in Texas to become friends with him and asked him to cut the new song that he wrote with Jerry Salley. Here’s a little VIDEO of Alex jamming on Tracy’s bus that Alex wound up buying and is now traveling in.

Have a great Monday.

Pensacola...Writing With A Friend....Happy Memorial Day

BILL BLOG Monday May 26, 2025  And a good Memorial Day Monday morning to you from Pensacola, Florida.   THE WEEKEND Mine started Saturday morning by jumping the car with Steve Dean and making the trip from Nashville down here to beautiful Pensacola for this event with Freedom Sings USA.   The event was held at Warrior Beer Company in Pensacola, owned by veteran Gary Hefner .   We rolled into Pensacola around 5 pm Friday, dropped our bags at the hotel, and then made our way over to the Warrior Beer Company for a little meet and greet with our veterans.   Imagine my surprise when I found out that a long-time friend of mine, Larry Hudson , from nearby Gulf Shores, would be the veteran I would be writing with. More on that in a bit.     After our dinner, our songwriter group got on stage and sang a few songs.   After we wrapped up, we headed to a favorite Irish Pub, “McGuire’s,” and closed out the ...

New Song Recorded...Lulu...Book On The Way

BILL BLOG Friday April 25, 2025   Here comes the weekend. It’s Friday once again. A high of 71 today with more rain on the way.   YESTERDAY I wrote with young Taylon Hope for the first time in a long while. Taylon is now a Sophomore at Belmont, University here in Nashville, and she’s chasing her musical dreams. We were to write in person and then one of her professors scheduled a test that would have conflicted so we wrote online instead and created a fun song for her that will be something she can add to her set list when she’s out performing “live”.   I’m rooting for some of her dreams to come true as I am so many other young talents in this crazy creative town.   BURN ME DOWN An American Idol contestant from a year ago, Kennedy Reid reached out to me a few months ago through a producer friers asking for songs for consideration for an album she was going to record. I sent three or 4 songs and ,she recorded one of those that I w...

Friends Honored...Father's Day...Freedom Sings USA Trip

BILL BLOG Monday June 16, 2025   Another Monday has rolled around. And it’s a packing day for me with a road trip tomorrow to Illinois. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.   We will hit 85 for a high today in Nashville.   Meanwhile, over the weekend, the National Weather Service issued the “first-ever” heat warning for Alaska.   THE WEEKEND Friday morning, I wrote a new song with my friend Rick Lang , who was in town for a week’s worth of songwriting. Rick lives out in New Hampshire, but drives to Nashville at least once a month to write. He always brings great song ideas with him, and we wrote one of those Friday morning.  His “Blue Collar Gospel” album, “Songs of Rick Lang” has done very well for Billy Blue Records. I was blessed to be a writer on the title track that was recorded by our friend Jerry Salley with the Oak Ridge Boys .     And he’s working towards another full album project that will be kind of un...
