Bad Weather...Two Idols...Willie Nelson's April Fool

BILL BLOG

Wednesday April 2, 2025

Wednesday and it’s the first Hump Day in April.

Speaking of weather. Some forecasters are saying that six states could get 4 months of rain in 1 week. Tennessee is on the edge of that system. There could be enough flooding going on to force Noah to build another Ark.

69 will be the high in Nashville but then we jump into the 80’s for the next couple of days to accompany all the rain that’s coming with those higher temperatures.

YESTERDAY

I had a great time writing a new song with two American Idol girls yesterday. Lauren Mascitti.

And Janelle Arthur.

Both of them are great writers and REALLY great singers. Janelle had the excuse of the year though for being late for our April Fool’s writing session. She had to feed the cattle and milk a cow, and it made her late. How ya gonna top that?

I had a start on a country-bluegrass kind of song that the two of them loved and we finished up the song together and then recorded it with the girls adding some great harmony. I’ve got a feeling some bluegrass artist will love this enough to record it. We’ll see.

 SONG OF THE DAY

Today’s song is “Long White Train” which I wrote online a couple of years ago with Pete Denahy who’s an Australian songwriter-artist with a sense of humor. He reached out to me by e-mail after a mutual friend suggested he write a fun idea he had with me. The song is about the long white train of a wedding veil which I thought was clever. Pete did as well as he put it on his last album. Thank you for having me and cutting the song Pete!

HEALTH NOTES

A deadly cholesterol that doesn’t show up on routine tests is slashed by 94% with a single dose of a new drug developed by Eli Lilly.

Experts are saying the hottest health trend right now is high-protein food and non-alcoholic drinks.

Researchers say that allergy season is becoming longer and stronger.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Yup. Reminds me of an old cartoon picture I saw years ago of a Father standing on the side of the road holding up a sign that read, “Encyclopedias for Sale. Teenage Son Knows It All.”

THEM AND US

How about Kid Rock’s new miniature White House that took him that took him 20 years to build? It now sits on a hill here in Tennessee complete with a gold urinal, a bowling alley, a church, a gas station, and a barber shop. He’s a noted Trump fan so I’m guessing the gold urinal was put in for when the President comes to pay a visit.

As big as the place is there are only two bedrooms. It was built for parties. There should be some EPIC stories coming our way from those.

EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN

In Derbyshire England, a guy opened a VHS store. And reportedly business is good. Nostalgic lovers are coming in from all over the country including America to buy a VHS tape and piece of yesterday.

I still have an old Blockbuster card. I wonder if that’s accepted there?

WILLIE NELSON

Willie Nelson is still singing and writing songs AND he’s held onto his sense of humor. Did you see his April Fool’s prank where he went on camera to audition for the movie Hobbit 2? Check THIS out.

NFL

Times have changed. That was evident at the big NFL gathering of owners where the #1 topic was the infamous “tush-push” used by the Philadelphia Eagles with great success. The owners could not reach an agreement on whether to keep it or get rid of it. There’s a bigger meeting coming in the future with more “tush-push” talk. It’s just fun to say, isn’t it?

GOOD MARRIAGE ADVICE

Any married man should forget his mistakes. There’s no use in two people remembering the same thing.

TARIFFS

Car dealerships are reporting a big spike in customers walking in BEFORE the car tariff hits the market. The price of driving is going up. Some will be looking for alternate transportation to save money.

DISNEY

The new Snow White movie is going to lose $117 million dollars according to those in the know. Most are blaming the controversial comments that the young actress Rachel Zegler who is playing Snow White has made that are well known by now.  Word is that Grumpy just got a lot grumpier.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Woman Gets Run Over After Saving a Parking Space for Another Driver. (Nothing like parking rage)

TODAY

I’m in a writing room today with former White House columnist David Morris and my young friend Alex Miller. Look for Alex’s great new duet with Tracy Byrd coming out soon.

David still writes for some publications, but these days he’s writing a lot of bluegrass songs as well. I always get to hear some really interesting stories when I write with him.

Have a great Wednesday!

Storm Weary...Wrestling Church...Gators

BILL BLOG Friday April 4, 2025  Friday morning in soggy Nashville.   YESTERDAY It was another day of storms, tornadoes, and a whole lot of flooding. And it sounds like we could get more and nobody wants that. Folks are storm-weary from the constant flood and tornado warnings that have been lighting up our phones for the past couple of days and nights. Hallways have become bedrooms for some. Schools are still closed today because of the flooding and damage and the weather forecast predicts that we are still not done with this system that just won’t go away. There are now 5 confirmed deaths so far.   Across the region where these storms have been constant the weather service has issued over 300 tornado warnings. There were a lot of big wind-walls like this one that hit near Nashville.   Selmer, Tennessee…also near Nashville was really hit hard.   Our house is on a hill so we don’t worry much about flooding. But I’m going to...

A Baby Song...Parrot Head Show...Spring Break

BILL BLOG Wednesday April 16, 2025   Over the hump we try to go. It’s Wednesday. The high will be 69 in Nashville today but we’re going up into the 80’s for the rest of the week. It’s going to start feeling like summer around here.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Katrina Burgoyne , who moved here from Australia several years ago, got married, and is now the mom of a 1-year-old girl. And that little girl and the first year of being a mom in a new country was weighing on her heart. She had a start on a song that spoke to that, and I got to jump in and help her finish the song. These are the kinds of songs that will make a mom cry during the songwriting process, as Katrina did yesterday. That’s a good sign that the tune might touch the hearts of other moms whenever she sings this anywhere. I was happy to be her co-writer on this yesterday.     MOTM GIG I found out yesterday that my friend Brent Burns and I will be playing a show on one of the ma...

Shows Ahead...A New Line Dance...Tax Day

BILL BLOG Tuesday April 15, 2025  And a Happy Tuesday to y’all. Another storm rolled through here late last night that got a little loud. After a high of 84 in Nashville yesterday we’ll have a high of just 63 today. And that’s why the storm rolled through I’m guessing.   YESTERDAY I had yesterday off from any appointments so I caught up on some things. My calendar will be full of traveling and shows in the back half of the year, so it’s nice to have some downtime for the next couple of months. Here’s a look at the upcoming shows through the end of May.   Thursday, May 1 I’ll be at the Listening Room Café here in Nashville with “Hits & Grins” alongside Steve Dean and Victoria Venier . This will be a 6 pm dinner show.   Friday May 2, I’m at the Omni Hotel in downtown Nashville for a private corporate event where myself and several other writers will be writing songs with corporate folks that will then be turned into line dances. ...
