Monday morning has arrived. We are warming back up in Nashville with a high of 89 expected today in Nashville on this Columbus Day.
I remember that Columbus discovered the new world, and something about the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. Outside of that? It’s a good holiday with mattress sales.
THE WEEKEND
Friday morning, I wrote a new song with Barry Hutchens, who lives in North Carolina and comes to Nashville about once a month or so to write songs for a week, often time with his son Will.
Barry plays piano, and guitar, sings great, and writes great songs. It’s always fun to rhyme with Barry.
I’ll be doing a songwriter show with Barry and his son Will, along with our mutual friend Jerry Salley this coming Friday at a place called Tap Roots in Port St. Joe, Florida for the “Blast on the Bay” songwriters festival.
That’s a noon time start on that show.
FRIDAY NIGHT
What an incredible “Gaither’ taping I attended Friday night in Columbia, Tennessee that featured my great friends, Hillary Scott & The Scott Family.
The family sang songs from their Grammy award winning album “Love Remains” along with some old gospel hymns that will be turned into a Gaither show and will be available on DVD. And I was thrilled when they included the song I wrote with Hilllary Scott, Jimmy Fortune and Sydni Perry, “Safe Haven.” Pretty great moment for a songwriter.
The taping was held at the Mule House in Columbia, Tennessee which is a beautiful event center, complete with stained glass windows.
There were a lot of friends, and musical family in attendance. Darin & Brooke Aldridge, Jenny Tolman & Dave Brainard, Bobby Tomberlin and Tess Frizzell, Don Poythress, folks I write with whowere there with many other familiar faces to listen as I did with my friend Angus Gill. Their performance earned several standing ovations.
It was truly a memorable evening, and I can’t wait to see it on TV, and then be able to purchase the DVD of the night.
SATURDAY
My wife Kathy had a big book signing at a Halloween Arts Fair.
She sold books, and I hung out with Mr. Bones here.
Heck, this bad boy was sitting out front of the building where Kathy sold copies of Subtle Frequency.
And to show you how good my wife is at selling her novel, she even sold one to a danged clown!
Everyone who came by was dressed up for Halloween. I saw a LOT of witches. And some of them were in costumes as well!
Thanks to everyone who dropped by here table and took home a copy. Happy reading.
BEACH RUN
Isaiah came ashore and took 4 lives and did some damage. Despite that, most on the Gulf Coast feel like they dodged a bullet.
And with that, both beach festivals I’m playing at were not affected. So this Thursday I’ll be in Port St. Joe, Florida for “Blast on the Bay.”
And then next week, all week, I’ll be at the big Parrot Head gathering in Gulf Shores that is known as MOTM.
See you on the beach.
SONG OF THE DAY
Since I’m headed to the beach, here’s a beach song I wrote with Becky Denton that she recorded, “Two Bags, One Beach.”
HEALTH NOTES
The CDC has confirmed over 4,000 measles cases with infections over some 45 states.
The CDC is coordinating with federal agencies to monitor travelers entering the United States from Siberia amid concerns about a possible pneumonic plague outbreak in Russia.
Drug companies are claiming that GLP-1 drugs can reverse biologic aging by to to three years.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Pick one…or three.
BILL GATES
Over the weekend Mr. Gates warned that ‘bad people’ with AI will unleash cyber chaos with the year'.
Great, can you “prep” for cyber chaos?
DEAR ABBY
Yes, “Dear Abby” is still around. Here’s a question she received recently
“Dear Abby, I’ve fallen in love with my first cousin. Can I marry her?”
I didn’t look for the answer. There are just some things I don’t need to know.
BURRO TROUBLE
This is not something you see at every college campus. Wild donkeys. They have invaded the campus at UC Riverside in California.
I’m pretty sure I never knew that there were “wild” donkeys running around.
And I SHOULD have known that considering I graduated from Central Missouri State University and our school mascot? “The Mules.”
EVEN WEIRDER
Over the weekend, TSA workers in Miami caught a guy trying to board a plane with 20 “live” birds stuck down in his underwear.
I’m pretty sure a TSA agent could write a book about their experiences and have a best seller.
HALLOWEEN
Halloween candy will cost 8% more this year. Like everything else, the price has gone up.
If you want to save money, but a bag of candy corn, and then just drop ONE candy corn into the trick or treat bags. The kids will love you for that!
SPEAKING OF SAVING MONEY
Fed Ex just placed a $300 million dollar order for 2,000 electric trucks.
With the price of diesel, can you blame them? The trucks have a lifetime span on average of 20 years. Fed Ex says the purchase will save them 800 MILLION dollars over that period. Look for more companies to follow suit.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From George Carlin:
“Most people work just hard enough not to get fired and get paid just enough money not to quit.”
TODAY
No appointments of any kind on Columbus Day. I’ll be taking in a little baseball as the playoffs have started with a big Milwaukee win over the Dodgers last night. Go Brew Crew!
Have a great Monday!
