Wednesday, Hump Day, and departure day for Gulf Shores. More on that later.

YESTERDAY

My Maryland friend Rick Lang was in town from Maryland, so we got together and wrote a new bluegrass song from a great idea he brought with him.

He also played a rough cut of a song we wrote last year that is going to be included on his next project titled “Hard Times and Heartaches.”

A great bluegrass artist, Dave Adkins, is singing the lead vocal on our song, and it sounds SO good. The album should be out sometime next year.

NEW DATE

On September 30, I will be at Zanie’s Comedy Club here in Nashville for my friend Angus Gill’s stand-up comedy debut.

Not only will I be rooting for my friend, but I’ll be sitting in for a couple of funny songs. Those songs will be “I’m Going Ugly Early,” and a song that Angus and I wrote, “She Bought A Grass Skirt, And I Bought A Mower.” So you can see what kind of evening this is going to be. See you there, I hope.

SONG OF THE DAY

Yesterday, I posted this picture of a guy we found in Texas, in front of the Waffle House where I had breakfast with Linda Davis and Lang Scott, with a Walmart store behind him.

And since I’m on my way to do some gigs with Brent Burns, it seems appropriate to share the song, “Midnight at the Waffle House,” that we wrote together.

HEALTH NOTES

There are indications that a drug that was developed for lung disease may slow biological aging. Researchers are cautioning that findings are preliminary, with more research needed.

A new study warns that maxing out on protein may be aging you.

There’s more research showing that “laughter therapy” has promising results in a number of chronic conditions.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

That always seems to end badly for folks who insist on doing that…especially in Yellowstone Park.

WEIRD THINGS

The publication “Cracked” listed weird things found in each state. I checked each state I’ve lived in.

In Tennessee…they mention the pyramid-shaped world’s largest Bass Pro that includes a restaurant, stores and a hotel.

In my home state of Missouri…they mention that contrary to belief, Kansas City is in Missouri, not in the state of Kansas, despite the name suggesting otherwise.

If you’re curious about what they think is odd in your state, here’s the ENTIRE LIST.

NFL SEASON

The real season is about to begin. And with that, comes a new season of the “Manning Cast,” featuring Peyton and Eli covering the games each night on ESPN 2 with their commentary and special guests on Monday nights. It’s my favorite way to watch the game. Always entertaining, and their knowledge of the game is passed on to viewers like me.

And their official VIDEO TEASE of the new season is out…and it’s great. Check it out. I’m ready for Monday Night Football after watching the Tease. There’s a ton of celebrities in this.

EVERYTHING “AMERICA”

The series “Southpark” is having some fun by renaming its show (tongue in cheek) “South America,” following President Trump renaming the Gulf of Mexico, Lake Ontario, and maybe the state of New Mexico.

Look for the first episode in just a week or so.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From the late comedian Buddy Hackett:

As a child, my family’s menu consisted of two choices: take it or leave it.

TODAY

I’ve got maybe a 7-hour drive today to one of my favorite places, Gulf Shores, Alabama. Tomorrow night I’ll be playing at the Tuscany Pizza and Grill with Brent Burns.

And then Friday, the two of us play at 2 pm on the beach over in Biloxi for a huge parrothead event.

Looking forward to both of those shows.

Have a great Wednesday!
