Thursday has rolled around, bringing more heat. The high in Nashville today will be 96.
And I’ve got a road trip to Kentucky in just a few hours. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.
YESTERDAY
Wednesday was a day of tweaking a few songs and packing a guitar and a suitcase for the trip later this morning. After this trip, I’ll have a nice three weeks of no trips before loading up for a beach run starting with Blast on the Bay in Port St. Joe.
And when that wraps up, I’ll drive over to Gulf Shores for MOTM, the big Parrot Head Festival, where this year I’ll not only be playing a couple of Trop Rock shows, but I’ll also emcee the Trop Rock Music Awards.
SONG OF THE DAY
Spencer Hatcher, a young traditional country artist, just released a lyric video for “Hot Weather, Cold Beer,” which I wrote with him, his brother Conner, and my friend Steve Dean. This has been Spencer’s summer single that he’s been singing all over the country in his shows. Happy to be a writer on this song.
HEALTH NOTES
The list of states with the most deaths due to medical complications list is in. Here’s the top 5.
5. New Mexico, 4. Kansas, 3. Arkansas, 2. Mississippi, and at number one is Wyoming.
Popular drugs for bone health have been linked to significantly lower Alzheimer’s risk.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
True.

Well, I can’t wait to see this movie.
I’m a big Pete Rose fan. And I’m in the camp that he should be in the Hall of Fame despite his transgressions. His play on the field should be separated from his personal troubles and mistakes.
I got to play in a Reds Fantasy Camp years ago in Plant City, Florida, and amazing, unforgettable experience for a baseball nut like me.
I watched an 80-year-old man taking batting practice one day struggle with hitting the baseball when Pete Rose rolled up on a bike, stopped, and watched the guy. Finally, Pete got off the bicycle, walked around the batting cage, put his arms around the guy, and gave him a free batting lesson! A lifetime memory for that Cincinnati friend.
Later, I interviewed Pete for my morning show at WUBE in Cincinnati. He could not have been a better interview.
And then he autographed a baseball for me that’s been in my small trophy case at the house since.
So yeah, bring on the Pete Rose movie.
OUCH
From the funny folks at Babylon Bee comes this fake headline:
“Climate Activists Blame Global Warming For Zero Hurricanes Forming In The Atlantic This Year.”
NOODLES
You can get almost anything from a vending machine these days. In Japan, you can get a bowl of piping hot Ramen noodles from one.
And I just realized I’ve never eaten Ramen noodles.
NEW WORDS
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary just added 1,400 new words. Looksmaxxing, California sober, Mandel Effect, and Rickroll are all in there now.
I know. I had to look up the meaning of a couple of those myself.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From the late Bob Hope:
“You know you're getting old when the candles cost more than the cake.”
TODAY
I’m off to Paris, Kentucky today with Freedom Sings USA to write with veterans and fellow songwriters Steve Dean, Bill DiLuigi, and Bobby Tomberlin.
This evening we’ll have a meet-and-greet and dinner with our veterans who have been chosen for us to write with, followed by a short concert.
Friday, each songwriter will sit with a veteran and write their story into a song.
Then, Saturday morning, we will perform those songs in a concert to honor each of those veterans.
Always an honor. Every single time.
Have a great Thursday!
