Another Hump Day “Wednesday” to get over. And another hot day. A high of 93 in Nashville, and this Saturday we will hit 101. I think I’ll stay in under the AC.
YESTERDAY
It was one of those days as I drove to my publishing company for a co-write, and my co-writer was late. And when I texted to change on him, I found out why. I had yesterday on my calendar, and he had a week from yesterday. It happens.
But my friends Jerry Salley, Barry Hutchens, and Alex Miller all came in to write, so we had a great time just talking, laughing, and catching up.
Jerry is Alex’s producer, and he told me that one song Alex and I wrote is definitely going to be on Alex Miller’s next record, and I love this song, as does Alex. So good news there. I’ve had at least one song on each of Alex’s albums on Billy Jam Records, and it’s nice to hear that there will be at least one more going on the new project.
I also found out that both Jerry and Barry will be at the “Blast on the Bay” songwriter festival with me this year down in Port St. Joe, Florida in mid-October. We’re hoping the organizers might put us together for one show. We’ll see.
TRUCK BED
It’s always fun to see an artist singing one of your songs. Here’s a little clip of a young Texas artist, Payton Howie, singing part of “Truck Bed” that I wrote with her and Brady Seals that’s her current single. The clip comes from a “live” performance of her and her band playing a show in California. Thank you Payton!
SONG OF THE DAY
Today, I’m choosing a song by Australian artist TC Cassidy, “Before I Turn Out The Light.” I wrote this one with Angus Gill, another Aussie who now lives in the States full time. He was producing the album for TC, and they needed one more song. I had part of this idea written, and Angus jumped in and helped me write it. He sent it to TC, and she immediately responded with how much she loved this song, and sure enough, she recorded it.
HEALTH NOTES
The CDC is reporting thousands of cases of a potentially deadly, drug-resistant fungus that has spread across 27 states. “Candida auris” is a type of yeast that can cause serious infections, primarily in hospitals, nursing homes, and other health care settings.
According to experts, broccoli is the #1 vegetable to help manage arthritis pain.
Another expert says that we can reduce our risk of 13 cancers by jogging up and down the nearest steps for three minutes or stand up from a desk or couch for 30 minutes.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Proof that some folks are really SERIOUS about teaching our kids.
SOLAR ECLIPSE
That’s going to happen around 11:34 this morning ET. The total eclipse is expected to last for 6 minutes and 28 seconds. One of the few times you can wear these and look cool.
WEIRD ALBUM NAMES
Zach Bryan is prepared to release a new album titled “Manhood and Other Donatable Organs.” What? That was enough to get me to research other odd titles for albums.
Limp Bizkit had an album titled “Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water.”
A Thomas Dolby recorded an album titled “Aliens Ate My Buick.”
Tom Waits recorded “Swordfishtrombones.”
I still like the creativity the Beatles used naming this one the "White Album."
I think I'll name my next album, "The Whyte Album."
SPEAKING OF MUSIC
Spotify is going to use an AI personal label that will let you know if the song is real or completely AI-generated. And I’ll admit, it’s hard to tell the difference sometimes. Will it make a difference with the consumer? I don’t know.
I have conversations daily, it seems, about AI usage in the music world. The most concerning conversations are with those who can’t play an instrument, or write great lyrics, BUT they can run it through an AI program, and it sounds like they can.
We’re living in the wild, wild west of music right now.
MORE GOLF
Yesterday there was a video I posted about a guy getting hit by lightning while laughing and filming his buddies trying to push their golf cart in the rain.
Today, I give you the bass that swallowed a golf ball. Check out this VIDEO.
I’ve never seen that. To heck with trying to catch fish with a spinner bait or worms; put a Titleist on the end of your hook instead and reel ’em in.
THE POPE
I was watching my Reds play the White Sox last night in Chicago, and noticed the ballpark was sold out. On a Tuesday night. Why? Because the White Sox were giving away "Pope" hats.
Pope Leo is from Chicago, and he was in favor of it. And, a nun threw out the first pitch of the game.
For the record, let it show that my Reds beat the Pope’s last night.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Benjamin Franklin:
“The greatest tragedy in life is that we become wise too late and old too fast.”
TODAY
I’m going to be rhyming with Wil Nance and Andrea Pearson today out at Wil’s little writing cabin. Always fun hanging with those two.
Then tonight I’m going to catch this great show featuring a lot of my talented friends, including Jimmy Fortune and the French Family Band.
Check out this VIDEO to see and hear how great this group is.
Have a great Wednesday!
