It’s Friday! Beautiful day on tap, convertible weather with a high of just 84 in Nashville today. Come next Tuesday? We will hit 98.
YESTERDAY
I wrote a new song with my longtime friend Victoria Venier, who is part of “Hits & Grins.”
And we chased an idea down that Victoria brought to the writing table. She wanted to try to write a song that sounded like a Morgan Wallen song. Not a bad idea since he’s the hottest artist on the planet right now. So that’s how we spent the morning.
We’ve written several songs together, and we’ve traveled a lot of miles together doing shows all over the country. It’s always good to create something with her.
HIGH FIVE
The two of us did celebrate a bit before our writing session, because we’ve found out that the first single off the new Kristy Cox album will be a song that she and I wrote with Jerry Salley.
That song will be released in August, and as soon as it is, we’ll be able to share the song here.
HE’S MORE COUNTRY THAN YOU
That duet song from Alex Miller and Emily Ann Roberts that I wrote with them seems to be everywhere. Folks have found this fun duet that’s been streamed over a million times by now. Watch THIS GUY try to sing our song.
Love it…though…it’s supposed to sound like THIS.
AND THEN THERE’S THIS
Watch this guy in this “Reactor Video” reacting to “Here Comes The Sun Again” from the French Family Band that’s been number 1 in Australia for three weeks in a row on one chart. This is the song I wrote with Sonny French and Angus Gill that young Sonny sings the heck out of.
There are a lot of folks online doing this “reaction” thing. If you’re a music person at all, you’ll walk away from this thinking, “Who doesn’t know that “Here Comes The Sun” is a Beatles/George Harrison song? But, we appreciate the rating he gives the song at the end of this video.
SONG OF THE DAY
Since today is “National Tequila Day”, I’m choosing the song “Margarita Smile” that I wrote with Brent Burns that he recorded. So get to your favorite Mexican restaurant and put some salt around your rim. And maybe avoid the lettuce.
HEALTH NOTES
A startling new study says that microplastics have been detected in most heart attack patients. 84% to be exact.
Orkin just put out its list of worst cities for bedbugs in the country. The top 5 in reverse order are Indianapolis, Cleveland, Detroit, Los Angeles, and the worst? Chicago.
More than 1.5 million dozen egg cartons have been recalled over possible salmonella contamination. The voluntary recall affects eggs sold under Kroger, Simple Truth, Country Morning and other brands.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Thank you very much.
JUST A SWINGIN’
Check out this giant swing.
This one is in the Alps in Switzerland. Would you jump on? Check out this VIDEO of what that really looks like. I’m pretty sure I would, and I’d be screaming “Ricola!” during the entire ride.
FUNNY HEADLINE
Once again, from the Babylon Bee. “Due To Poor Air Quality, Chicago Advises Criminals To Commit Indoor Crimes.”
STUCK
How about this maintenance worker in Illinois who got stuck way up high in a sign for 7 hours?
His lift quit working, and he could not get down. Thank goodness for firemen who finally got him out of that situation, but not before severe dehydration forced him to be hospitalized.
MY BILLBOARD STORY
When I moved to Nashville to take the morning radio job at WSM-FM, my program director came to me and asked how I would feel about doing my entire morning show on top of a WSM billboard one morning to make some noise and get some attention for our new show? And of course, I said “yes.”
I had NO idea how high in the air I would be until the morning of that broadcast. HIGH. I rode a lift to get up there, and then a safety crew put a harness on me that attached to a rail that ran the length of the billboard. Yes, my heart was in my throat a couple of times, but I had fun, and I had a LOT of cars honking at me on I-65 as they were headed to work that morning.
The things one will do to get attention!
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From comedian Ray Romano:
“Having children is a lot like living in a frat house. Nobody sleeps, everything is broken, and there’s a lot of throwing up.”
TODAY
Nothing big on my calendar today except for packing a suitcase and guitar for a trip tomorrow to northern Indiana with my wife to celebrate a couple’s 70th wedding anniversary. That's 7 0! And I’m going to be their entertainment for that. Happy Anniversary, Kenny and Carol Ann!
Have a great weekend!
