And now it’s Thursday morning. Up to 90 degrees today in Music City.
YESTERDAY
I rhymed again with a couple of my favorites, Dave Brainard & Jenny Tolman at their place. It had been a bit.
Before we tore into a fun idea, a duet idea that I had brought, I got to hear the song I helped them write dedicated to Jenny’s mom Kathy. She told me her mom cried when she heard it. Mission accomplished. Jenny’s album, which includes that song, is out in just a few weeks.
She and Dave will also hold a full-band album party, invitation only, at the City Winery in Nashville about the same time the album comes out.
And they told me there will be some very private listening parties in a stretch limousine. Every songwriter on the new album, and other media folks, will be picked up, and they’ll drive us around Nashville while we listen to the new album. Pretty clever way to promote it. I’m looking forward to all of that.
SONG OF THE DAY
So why not choose a Jenny Tolman song that I wrote with her and Dave for today’s song choice? Here’s “Workin’ Woman’s Blues,” which was born from an idea that Jenny had. And I love the fact that they added real horns on this kick-butt song. Check it out.
HEALTH NOTES
In yesterday's COVID hearing with Fauci, Dr. Fauci invoked the 5th, 111 times. There were some explosive questions, with few of them answered. The mask is coming off of what happened with COVID closures and mandatory mask wearing.
There is now a Smart toilet seat that can detect heart problems.
Researchers found that grade-schoolers who were given a cellphone consistently scored worse on reading comprehension tests than classmates without one.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Don’t know about y’all, but I think I’ll stay on this side of that sign.
NO ROBOTS FOR YOU!
The US has banned the purchase of any foreign-made humanoid robots. Shoot. Just when I was going to purchase this guy to answer my door whenever solicitors ring the doorbell.
VIRAL RACCOON
That short-spined raccoon that folks have been seeing in the Pacific Northwest has gone viral.
They named him “Jimothy.” And now you can get a “Jimothy” tattoo if you’d like.
Or…how about a “Jimothy” bobblehead doll?
I think I’ll just stick with the plain ole t-shirt option.
CRANK IT DOWN
In Japan, a 61-year-old man liked to play his guitar LOUD. Too loud for the neighbors. After years of getting no sleep, authorities came and arrested him, and took his collection of 40 guitars.
Police gave him lots of warnings through the years that he ignored. Wonder if the guy knows that they sell these?
FOR YOUR CAR
How about a tiny trash can?
You could also use it as a travel-urinal I guess, or you can buy one made for that.
I’m waiting until they make a travel bidet myself.
And then there are Crocs-inspired air fresheners.
Uh huh. Which of the three are you choosing?
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Robin Sharma:
“Don’t live the same year 75 times and call it a life.”
TODAY
At the last second, I got an email from my Missouri friend Becky Denton letting me know that she and her talented husband Will Denton are in town, and wondering if I had today open to write? Turns out, I did, and we will.
Becky just put out a fun summer song that the two of us wrote, ‘Barefootin’. They are getting ready to put together a video of this song using “bare feet” from some of their fans. I’ll be asking about that. And no, my bare feet won’t be in it. Nobody needs to see that.
Have a great Thursday!
