In Cracker Barrel...Book Signing in Missouri...Best Songwriters

BILL BLOG

Friday, June 12, 2026

Friday morning has rolled in, bringing a June weekend with it. The high today in Nashville will be 87 with some rain showers.

YESTERDAY

Another day of rest, and battling a bad cold. The good news is, I’m feeling much better. I cancelled an entire week’s worth of songwriting appointments to take time to recover. That was a really good idea, because I’m turning the corner, I think.

SONG OF THE DAY

Me, Brian White, Nathan Woodard, and Jason Severs are excited as we’ve received confirmation that Joe Nichols has recorded the song “Keeping It Real” that the 4 of us wrote several months ago. One of the great country singers. Can’t wait to hear that.

This will be my second cut by Joe, who recorded “Crickets” which I wrote with Lisa Shaffer and Brent Baxter a few years ago, which went on to be the title track to one of his albums. Listen for the “crickets” in this song of the day.

DANG, I’M IN CRACKER BARREL!

Pretty exciting. The new Dailey & Vincent album “Beautiful Life” will be available for purchase in all Cracker Barrel stores starting today.

And that album includes their #1 song “Moon Shines on the Still” that I wrote with Laura Leigh Jones!

On top of that, Jamie & Darrin will be visiting several Cracker Barrel stores to help promote this great album that I’m pretty danged happy to be on.

So when you stop for breakfast at Cracker Barrel, pick up a copy of the CD!

MISSOURI BOOK SIGNING

My wife, Kathy just will have a book signing in Clarksville, Missouri next Spring. Clarksville sits on the Mississippi River, a small town with lots of charm. And it’s just a few miles up the road from where I graduated High School in Elsberry, Missouri.

Here’s what my wife posted about the event.

CLARKSVILLE, MISSOURI BOOK SIGNING! SAVE THE DATE! The lovely, local coordinator, Bev, and I settled on March 20th, the first day of spring 2027. The event will be held at THE ROAST OFFICE (a fabulous local coffee shop), 107 Howard Street, Clarksville, MO. The tagline there is "Hot Coffee and Cold Insults." LOL! Okay, this is going to be fun! One patron asked if that means we should prepare to be 'roasted.'

Looking forward to joining her back in my home area next March selling her book.

HEALTH NOTES

Research suggests that Vitamin C may help preserve brain gray matter volume as we age.

And more research suggests that Vitamin C is still the best antioxidant for younger-looking skin.

Officials are worried about infections and sickness breaking out at the World Cup in New York. Measles is one of their large concerns.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

I’d say that’s “truth in advertising” right there.

CRAZY

They (whomever they is) say that one in four adults is already being targeted by AI voice cons that mimic loved ones.

So, if you think it’s me calling you to borrow money? It might not be.

BEST SONGWRITERS?

That seems to be an impossible task to me, to name the Top 100 Songwriters in America. But that’s exactly what the New York Times tried to do by consulting with 250 “experts.” Here’s their Top 5.

1…Bob Dylan

2…Paul Simon

3…Bruce Springsteen

4…Carole King

5…Billy Joel

Taylor Swift was named the 7th best, and Dolly was #8, while Willie Nelson landed at #10.

Taylor Swift was just inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York last night.

You can imagine how much some fans disagreed with their list. We all have our favorites. Roger Miller would have been on my list. And he didn’t make the Top 100. Emmy Lou Harris is at #100, and though I love Emmy Lou, she has never written that many songs.

Like I said, an impossible task trying to list the “best” songwriters.

THERE ARE STILL GOOD GUYS

Up in Minnesota, Adam Sandback and Mike Gravilin were out on their SUVs when they stumbled upon a woman stuck in quicksand mud, with the mud up almost to her mouth. And she had been there three days. The missing woman was 100 miles away from home, and nobody knows why she was there. More to come on that, I’m sure. But she has a couple of angels to thank.

The two of them were out scouting old trails and new trails that they help maintain, took a little detour, and found the woman. Without hesitation, they jumped off and pulled her out. And she’s seemingly okay.

THEM AND US

The Kansas City Chiefs’ star QB Patrick Mahomes just signed a two-year extension with the team. They gave him $504.75 MILLION to play 2 years. That’s the first deal in NFL history to exceed half a billion dollars.

They always say you’re worth what you get. And this pretty much proves that Patrick is worth a whole lot more than most of us.

AI MUSIC

The company Deezer has a gadget-app that can determine if the music you like and are listening to is real or AI. Some people really care, some listeners don’t. They just like what they like.

But on its own platform, Deezer says that 44% of the music is AI-generated.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From the always clever Will Rogers:

Live in such a way that you would not be ashamed to sell your parrot to the town gossip.”

TODAY

Settling in for the weekend. Have a great one yourself!
