And now, it’s Thursday morning. An 87-degree high is expected here in Nashville today.
And I woke up with this little view out our back window this morning.
Pretty good way to start the day.
YESTERDAY
Yesterday was a pretty good day, as I finally feel like the worst part of this cough that I’ve had for so long may finally be subsiding. Grateful to feel even a little better this morning, and not so much “under the weather.”
It got me thinking, why do we always say, “I’m under the weather” when we don’t feel well? That must mean we NEVER feel good, because aren’t we under the weather ALL the time?
FREEDOM SINGS USA
I’m supposed to be in Heyworth, Illinois today to write with a veteran, but this cold I’ve had forced me to cancel. But 4 other songwriter-friends are there, and I got this VIDEO of songwriter Bobby Tomberlin sitting down to sing the old classic song “Ain’t Misbehavin’” with 99 year old World War II veteran Paul Petrey playing piano beside him.
Pretty danged cool moment for Bobby, AND that great veteran, and Freedom Sings USA.
MUSICAL PRESENT
I got a nice gift “texted” to me from my Paris, Missouri, friends Becky and
Will Denton yesterday.
Becky just recorded a very fun summertime song called “Barefeet” that the two of us wrote a couple of summers back, that Will did an outstanding job of playing on, and producing, A catchy toe-tapper for sure. And, she even got a little bit of her young daughter Celia's voice in the mix, which is really cool.
They will be releasing the song on June 26…soon! And I’ll share it here as soon as it becomes available.
SOME OTHER MUSIC NEWS
Here’s a new clip of young Texas artist Payton Howie teasing the song “Truck Bed” that I wrote with her and Brady Seals. She is releasing this as her new single coming up in just one week. All of us are excited to see how the song does for her. The girl has talent, as you can see. Good luck, Payton!
ALEX MILLER
And this new VIDEO of Alex Miller showed up of him singing our song “Memories & Gin” at the (Opry) a few nights ago, getting a great reception. The song that Alex and I wrote is on his great new album on Billy Blue Records titled “More Country Than You”, which is the title of the fun duet he recorded with “growing” star Emily Ann Roberts. You can find that album wherever you buy your music. And, if you’re into vinyl? You can get a vinyl copy.
BLUEGRASS AWARDS
Second round ballot voting is going on right now for the “best” of everything bluegrass. I have some rooting interest in Caroline Owens, who is up for several awards, including the “Song of the Year” for “Telluride,” that I wrote with Andrea Pearson.
And my dear friends Darin & Brooke Aldridge are also up for multiple awards.
And that includes the category of “Album of the Year” that I have two songs on, “Wildflower Too” that I wrote with the duo, and “Where You’ll Find Me” written with Lauren Mascitti, and Kristen Bearfield.
SONG OF THE DAY
And with that, I’m going to make “Where You’ll Find Me” our “Song of the Day.” Darin and Brooke sing the heck out of this song, and they added one of my co-writers Lauren Mascitti, to sing a third part of harmony with them, that’s just so great.
And I’m thinking about my friend Lauren this morning as both she and her Nana are recovering from COVID. Get better, you two!
HEALTH NOTES
Encouraging news. Many experts are now predicting that a cure for cancer is on the horizon. The Chairman and CEO of Johnson & Johnson say their goal is to eliminate the disease in 10 years. The CEO says, “We now have treatments that utilize your own immune system to attack the cancer.”
The folks in the Ozempic know are warning that one of the side effects in using those kinds of drugs is the loss of hair, for some.
Science says for those who take creatine, the right dose is about 3 to 5 grams a day. The sports folks use it to improve high-energy workouts.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
A little truth me thinks.
KIND OF BLEAK
A Fox News Poll reveals that most voters doubt that the new agreement with Iran will stop them from building nukes.
In a separate poll I took of country music fans, 80% think the “Strait of Hormuz” should be renamed to the “George Strait of Hormuz.” All of those in favor…
TAKE A TENNIS BALL
Some who travel a lot pack a tennis ball. They believe it helps remove stress and soreness by squeezing it or rubbing it against sore places on your body. A little cheap flight therapy if you will.
Or, you can do as I do. Pack a yoga mat, throw it down in the airplane aisle, and do some “downward dog” poses while the rest of the passengers cheer you on, or not.
FATHER’S DAY
Coming right up on June 21. I asked Google to show me some “unusual” Father’s Day gifts and found this.
A toolbox filled with cookies and sweets. I think that would have me taking something out of a toolbox for the first time in my life.
Or this might be appropriate from my daughter Heather.
THE BIG APPLE PARADE
The Knicks will be celebrated with a big parade in NYC today. How big will it be? Well, the city is deploying 10,000 officers to help keep order. Geez.
Wonder how many officers will be deployed when they hold a parade for the Championship Pickle Ball players?
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From comedian-actor Kevin James:
“There’s no better feeling in the world than a warm pizza box on your lap.”
TODAY
I should be in Heyworth, Illinois, right now getting ready to sit down with a veteran to write their story into a song that will be performed in concert. I had to cancel that trip because of being sick, so I’ll be thinking about my great friends and co-writers who are going to do an incredible job today, writing with their veterans, Steve Dean, Bobby Tomberlin, Bill DiLuigi, and Minnie Murphy. I’m sure missing not being there with them.
Have a great Thursday!
