Shows Ahead...Top of the Chart...Slow Cop Chase

BILL BLOG

Tuesday July 2, 2025

Tuesday morning be here. We’ll have a high of 85 with some rain in Music City today.

YESTERDAY

A fairly lazy day at the Whyte House yesterday, the first day of July. With no writing appointment, I worked on putting together a song list for the 2 shows I’ll have in Missouri this coming 4th of July weekend. Just a 1-hour show this Sunday at Liberty Fest in Louisiana, Missouri.

Then a 2-hour show at the Florida Winery and Resort in Stoutsville, Missouri, on Sunday, July 6.

For complete details on those two shows, just go to the tour section here on my website.

UNREAL CHART NEWS

Yesterday, to my complete amazement, I landed THREE gospel-bluegrass songs I helped write on the Christian Voice Magazine bluegrass-gospel chart, known as the CVM chart. Truly amazing.

Country Faith by Kristen Leigh Bearfield and Karen Peck Gooch is at #2. Written with Kristen and Tim McGraw’s guitar player Bob Minner.

At #4 is Blue Collar Gospel by Jerry Salley and The Oak Ridge Boys, written with Jerry and Rick Lang.

And at #5 is God Never Made A Mountain, recorded by Kristy Cox, written with Andrea Pearson and Josh Shilling.

6 years ago, when I signed a publishing contract with Billy Blue Music, I was not sure I’d ever written a gospel-bluegrass song. And certainly, that’s not the biggest part of my catalog, so I’m pretty flabbergasted and more than a little pleased to have these songs receiving this kind of recognition.

I grew up in Missouri, attending a one-room Baptist Church with my family. And I think some of those values and experiences have made their way into some of my writing that’s relatable to more folks than just me. I’m grateful. Thank you, CVM, Billy Blue, and all my co-writers, as well as the artists who are recording these songs. Just wow.

SONG OF THE DAY

My friend and co-writer Bobby Tomberlin wrote a book that’s out right now, filled with stories Bobby has accumulated in his life from being a 13-year-old radio kid, to countless stories about famous country artists his career has been associated with. Not to mention stories about the folks who have recorded his songs through the years. Willie, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bill Anderson, Diamond Rio, Barbara Streisand, Blake Shelton, and on and on.

I sent Bobby a “congrats” note on his Facebook page telling him how much I’m looking forward to reading it, and he replied, “Oh, you’re in it.”. Uh oh.

My guess is that he’ll be talking about the song we wrote with Linda Davis, “Looking For Audrey,” which is about the ghost of Hank Williams showing up at the same bar, night after night, looking for his ex-wife Audrey.

The lyrics to our song hang in a cabin in Gatlinburg that Audrey used to own, where she and her son Hank Jr. spent a little time. Quite the honor.

With all of that in mind, I’m going to make the Song of the Day “Looking for Audrey” by Bobby.

HEALTH NOTES

Encouraging. A brain implant allows paralyzed patients to talk again with their own voice. The brain implant uses an AI-brain computer interface.

Wegmans Semi-Sweet Chocolate Nonpareil has been recalled from stores in eight states following the discovery of undeclared milk allergens in the product’s packaging.

The FDA says that approved drugs and vitamins are still safe to take a year or even two after the expiration date.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Wonder how much that ticket was.

MOVING SOUTH

More and more folks are moving here to the south. It’s cheaper. Oh, and it’s warmer. According to a study, 8 of the top 10 states that are being migrated to are in the south, with North Carolina being the number one choice, followed by South Carolina, and then Tennessee is number three.

I kind of think more people are moving to the south because of the number of Buc-ee’s we now have.

You just don’t hear “brisket on the board” in North Dakota.

MARRIAGE QUOTE

This one from sports writer Rick Reilly, who says, “The best thing to happen to marriage is the pause-live TV button”.

FUNNY WOMAN

That would be Leeanne Morgan, who went from posting a lot of her stand-up routine on her social networks to being a major star. So much so that she has a series coming out on Netflix that looks to be a big hit. Check out this TRAILER for “Leanne”.

OJ…AGAIN?

We had quite the slow-speed stolen car chase in Nashville yesterday, reminiscent of O.J.’s white Bronco chase all those years ago. Police found a woman asleep in a car that was stolen. Before they could arrest her, she took off with police chasing. The cops laid out spikes and blew out 4 tires. Despite that, the woman drove for 4 more hours before Police finally spun her out and took her into custody. Here’s a LOOK at that.

I’m calling it the “Molasses Chase.”

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Florida Man Head Butted By Airborne Shark. (Don’t know why the shark chose not to just give the guy a high-five. Show-off shark.)

TODAY

I’ll be writing with two of the ladies from the musical trio “Three Times A Lady”. That would be Kennedy Scott, who’s a new mama, and Victoria Camp. Always fun writing with these two.

Then later I’m packing for a road trip to Missouri tomorrow for two shows.

Have a great Wednesday.

ACM Awards Show...Frank Brown Songwriters Festival...Mother's Day Weekend

BILL BLOG Friday May 9, 2025  Here we go sneaking into a weekend. It’s Friday. Just 71 for the high today in Nashville.   YESTERDAY My Thursday morning started online writing a new up-tempo bluegrass song with Troy Engle in Pennsylvania. Troy plays every instrument that has strings on it, sings, writes, produces…not much he can’t do musically. When he lived in Nashville, he hung out a lot with Tom T Hall , played on numerous recording sessions, and was out on the road playing some instrument with the likes of Eric Church , The Isaacs and a long list of country stars.   But several years ago, Troy moved back to PA with his family and plays some shows up there with his family band, but still does a lot of recording work from home. He told me yesterday that his daughter may enroll at a University in Nashville next year and that might bring him back to Music City. It would be great to have him here and get to work him in person more.   ...

Friends Honored...Father's Day...Freedom Sings USA Trip

BILL BLOG Monday June 16, 2025   Another Monday has rolled around. And it’s a packing day for me with a road trip tomorrow to Illinois. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.   We will hit 85 for a high today in Nashville.   Meanwhile, over the weekend, the National Weather Service issued the “first-ever” heat warning for Alaska.   THE WEEKEND Friday morning, I wrote a new song with my friend Rick Lang , who was in town for a week’s worth of songwriting. Rick lives out in New Hampshire, but drives to Nashville at least once a month to write. He always brings great song ideas with him, and we wrote one of those Friday morning.  His “Blue Collar Gospel” album, “Songs of Rick Lang” has done very well for Billy Blue Records. I was blessed to be a writer on the title track that was recorded by our friend Jerry Salley with the Oak Ridge Boys .     And he’s working towards another full album project that will be kind of un...

Illinois Today...Some Nominations...Bluebird Tickets On Sale

BILL BLOG Wednesday June 18, 2025   Good morning from Heyworth, Illinois. We have a 74 degree high on tap here today with some rain mixed with the sun.   YESTERDAY Myself and 4 other Nashville songwriters made the trip from Nashville up to Heyworth for our Freedom Sings USA retreat here where today we will write some veteran stories into songs.   You know you’re in central Illinois when you roll past these bad boys.   This is our second trip to Heyworth, which is just 10 minutes away from Bloomington, Illinois. The event is held at the local American Legion Hall, where they treated me, Bobby Tomberlin , Steve Dean & Bill DiLuigi to a great dinner. And then the 4 of us played music for those gathered before we came back to the hotel to rest up for today.  Small town, great folks who are proud of their town, and patriotic.   LUCKY One of the founders of Freedom Sings USA is Don Goodman , who is also a hit writ...
