Wednesday morning in Nashville. 85 for the high here today with a chance of some light rain.
YESTERDAY
Brady Seals, Lauren Mascitti, and I had a great time writing a song for a new project for Seals & Crofts 2 that features Brady and Lua Crofts.
Brady and Lua are related to the original Seals and Crofts. Man, was it so fun writing something that sounded that DUO.
I’m a big fan of both the original duo and Seals and Crofts 2. They have already recorded and released one song that Brady and I wrote, titled “Running To The Sun”. And honestly, I’ll be pretty shocked if the song the three of us wrote yesterday doesn’t wind up on the new album.
Brady is not only related to Jim Seals, but he is also related to the late Dan Seals, and his Uncle is Country Hall of Fame Songwriter Troy Seals, who wrote a ton of big hits. The plaque hung on the wall in Brady’s writing room features my favorite song from him.
It was a very vibey, creative day with those two. I should have worn a Woodstock T-shirt! That would have been appropriate.
SPEAKING OF LAUREN MASCITTI
She invited me last night to come and sing a beach song on July 22 at her new EP Beach Song Album party that will be held at 3rd & Lindsley with a full band. That will be fun. I’m probably going to sing the “Tiki Hut” song that was named the Trop Rock Song of the Year a few years back in Key West.
Lauren’s new beach EP is titled “Out of the Blue”.
And this is one of her great beach songs on that project, “Somewhere In The Caribbean”.
If you’re in Nashville on July 22, come join us for an evening of fun and beach music. The show starts at 7:30 pm.
UPCOMING SHOW
Our Evening in the Round trio doesn’t get to play in Nashville often. But we have two shows at Uncle Lenny’s, a wonderful home-food, intimate restaurant run by our friends Lynn Marie and Eddie Roddick, musicians themselves. We have two shows. One at 5 pm, and one at 7 pm. It is small, much like the Bluebird Café, so be sure to order your tickets early for one of the dinner shows.
HALL OF FAME
A link with the info for my Country Music Hall of Fame Show on September 20 with Steve Dean was posted yesterday, with all the info you need to attend. The show is at noon in the Ford Theater and is free with your Hall of Fame admission. Here’s the LINK with all the info.
It’s always a great honor to play inside the Hall, and Steve and I are looking forward to making our 4th appearance there.
RAY STEVENS
Ray had a mild heart attack that put him in a Nashville hospital yesterday. Fortunately, the surgery was successful, and he’s home recovering. Ray is 86 years old and still performing, most of the time at his Caba Ray Club just east of downtown Nashville. One of the highlights of my songwriting career is having Ray record the song “Retired” that I wrote with my buddy Brent Burns. After Ray recorded the song, he called me and invited me to his studio, which at that time was on Music Row, and played the song for me. Quite the moment to say the least. Get better Ray.
SONG OF THE DAY
Since I wrote with Brady Seals yesterday, I’m going to post this song he recorded and released that we wrote. We laughed quite a bit when we wrote “Hillbilly Tree.” Enjoy.
HEALTH NOTES
The CDC warns that tick bites are up…way up. The most since 2020.
The CDC also declares that bird flu season is over, while warning there could be a resurgence this Fall.
WorldAtlas just listed the unhealthiest fast-food restaurants. The least healthy is Wendy’s, followed by Sonic, Taco Bell, Dairy Queen, and KFC, rounding out the Top 5 for unhealthy.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Wonder if there is an “Upper” Funeral Home anywhere?
SHORT DAY
Scientists are telling us that today will be the shortest day in history. Something to do with the moon’s alignment and the Earth spinning faster. According to those folks, that will happen twice more this year. Circle July 22 and August 5 on your calendar.
So, keep in mind you won’t have as much time to shop for deals today on Amazon during their Prime Day sales. Which reminds me. I need to get online and get one of these before the price goes up.
REAL ESTATES
Statistics are showing that de-listings of homes and property surged 50% in May. Folks not being able to get what they want for their homes are yanking the “For Sale” sign out of their yards. Phoenix has the most de-listings. That might offer up some better deals for buyers down the road.
A GOLFER AND A HOCKEY PLAYER GET IN A FIGHT
Can you predict how that ended? Uh huh. Not well for the drunk golfer in Canada who was upset about the slow play in front of him, so he got mouthy with that group and one guy who was an ex-hockey player. The hockey player had not forgotten how to fight. And the golfer wound up in a pond. Careful who you pick a fight with. If you see a golfer dropping his gloves? Run the other way.
TODAY’S HEADLINE
Most Earthquake Damage Is Caused By Shaking. (Wonder how many dollars they spent on that research)
TODAY
Eric Erdman, the Trop Rock Songwriter of the Year multiple years, despite the fact that my friend doesn’t really write or sing many true beach songs. Try to figure that out. With that in mind, I doubt that we will be writing a song about Palm trees and the ocean.
Have a great Wednesday!
