Hot Weather...Jeannie Seeley Duet...Slow Pursuit

BILL BLOG

Tuesday June 24, 2025

A hot Tuesday arises in Nashville. And it do be H O T in Music City. 95 with a heat warning here today.

How hot is it?  It’s so hot, Jehovah’s Witnesses started telemarketing. Hot.

YESTERDAY

I spent some time writing a new gospel-bluegrass song with my friend Daryl Mosley at my publishing company. Daryl has been named Best Male Bluegrass Vocalist more than once during his career. This VIDEO of his song “I’m Still Here” gives you a true sense of his acoustic storytelling style that I love.

It’s always a pleasure to sit and rhyme with him.

SONG OF THE DAY

Grand Ole Opry star Jeannie Seely has been battling her health recently, and many people, including me, are thinking of her.

With that, I can say how lucky I am that Jeannie sang on a song I co-wrote that Jenny Tolman recorded with Jeannie titled “Who’ll Be Your Fool”. This song was also written with Jenny’s very talented husband, Dave Brainard, who came up with this throwback-style kind of song. And Jeannie was kind enough to come into the studio with us one day to shoot this VIDEO of that song. Check it out. And get better, Jeannie!

HEALTH NOTES

A COVID variant with the ominous name “Razor Blade Throat” has spread to 14 states.

According to a new study, there are increasing reports of undesirable side effects from the Coronavirus vaccination, including heart scarring.

And yet another study is suggesting that exposure to common heavy metals is linked to the prevalence of ADHD.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Yep. That’s exactly where I parked my car yesterday.

BEACHES

Reader’s Digest just listed the “best beach in every state”. In their opinion. I had to look at the choices for every state I’ve lived in.

Missouri…my home state…it’s Fugitive Beach in Rolla, Missouri. I would have sworn they would have picked Osage Beach in the Ozarks, but no. And I have not heard about “Fugitive Beach”. Turns out it’s a man-made beach around a Quarry filled with water. Who knew?

Illinois…Oak Street Beach in Chicago.

Indiana…Dunbar Beach in Indiana Dunes National Park.

Ohio…Headlands Beach State Park near Cleveland.

Tennessee…Grundy Lakes in South Cumberland State Park located near Chattanooga.

Wisconsin…North Beach in Racine, where you can buy a Kringle to munch on at the beach.

If you want to check out their beach choice in your state…here’s the FULL LIST.

FROM A HUSBAND

Whenever my wife packs me a salad for lunch, all I want to know is what I did wrong”.

PIZZA WARNING

Some of social media figured out something serious was up before we bombed Iran. That’s because some found out there was a HUGE pizza order from the Pentagon from Papa John’s. The Pentagon may need to figure out a “stealth” way of delivering pizza in the future.

There may be another pizza order as news comes this morning that Israel is claiming that Iran has already violated the peace agreement just made and plans to fire back. Sigh.

Maybe Iran and Israel should sit down and share a pizza and talk.

FYI

If you are trying to outrun the police in one of these…you’re EXTREMELY optimistic.

Nobody says you have to be smart to be a criminal. This happened in South Carolina when the guy stole an excavator and tried to get away, going 3 mph.

TODAY’S HEADLINE

Fat Cat Owns 23 Old Ladies. (I so believe that’s true)

TODAY

I’m writing with my Aussie-moved here to America friend, Katrina Burgoyne, who is about to release the song we wrote together titled “American Dream”.

Can’t wait for folks to start hearing it this Friday.

Have a great Tuesday!

ACM Awards Show...Frank Brown Songwriters Festival...Mother's Day Weekend

BILL BLOG Friday May 9, 2025  Here we go sneaking into a weekend. It’s Friday. Just 71 for the high today in Nashville.   YESTERDAY My Thursday morning started online writing a new up-tempo bluegrass song with Troy Engle in Pennsylvania. Troy plays every instrument that has strings on it, sings, writes, produces…not much he can’t do musically. When he lived in Nashville, he hung out a lot with Tom T Hall , played on numerous recording sessions, and was out on the road playing some instrument with the likes of Eric Church , The Isaacs and a long list of country stars.   But several years ago, Troy moved back to PA with his family and plays some shows up there with his family band, but still does a lot of recording work from home. He told me yesterday that his daughter may enroll at a University in Nashville next year and that might bring him back to Music City. It would be great to have him here and get to work him in person more.   ...

Friends Honored...Father's Day...Freedom Sings USA Trip

BILL BLOG Monday June 16, 2025   Another Monday has rolled around. And it’s a packing day for me with a road trip tomorrow to Illinois. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.   We will hit 85 for a high today in Nashville.   Meanwhile, over the weekend, the National Weather Service issued the “first-ever” heat warning for Alaska.   THE WEEKEND Friday morning, I wrote a new song with my friend Rick Lang , who was in town for a week’s worth of songwriting. Rick lives out in New Hampshire, but drives to Nashville at least once a month to write. He always brings great song ideas with him, and we wrote one of those Friday morning.  His “Blue Collar Gospel” album, “Songs of Rick Lang” has done very well for Billy Blue Records. I was blessed to be a writer on the title track that was recorded by our friend Jerry Salley with the Oak Ridge Boys .     And he’s working towards another full album project that will be kind of un...

Illinois Today...Some Nominations...Bluebird Tickets On Sale

BILL BLOG Wednesday June 18, 2025   Good morning from Heyworth, Illinois. We have a 74 degree high on tap here today with some rain mixed with the sun.   YESTERDAY Myself and 4 other Nashville songwriters made the trip from Nashville up to Heyworth for our Freedom Sings USA retreat here where today we will write some veteran stories into songs.   You know you’re in central Illinois when you roll past these bad boys.   This is our second trip to Heyworth, which is just 10 minutes away from Bloomington, Illinois. The event is held at the local American Legion Hall, where they treated me, Bobby Tomberlin , Steve Dean & Bill DiLuigi to a great dinner. And then the 4 of us played music for those gathered before we came back to the hotel to rest up for today.  Small town, great folks who are proud of their town, and patriotic.   LUCKY One of the founders of Freedom Sings USA is Don Goodman , who is also a hit writ...
