Wednesday June 4, 2025
It’s the first “Hump Day” of June. And it’s going to be HOT with a high of 89 on tap in Nashville today.
And it’s anniversary day for me and my wife Kathy.
Yes, I outkicked the coverage when I married her for sure. I always joke that my wife made just ONE mistake in her entire life. She walked into a club where my band and I were playing in Cincinnati on the second night we were there. She didn’t want to come as she really didn’t like country music much back then. But one of her sisters was celebrating a birthday and wanted to go, so Kathy went with them to celebrate. I owe her sister big time.
Happy Anniversary, Kathy Whyte. I’m a lucky guy.
YESTERDAY
I met my co-emcee for the big Parrot Head event coming up in Gulf Shores this October, Krystal King.
Krystal does weekend radio work for Margaritaville Radio on Sirius XM. Krystal is also a country artist and songwriter, so we wrote an idea that she brought to the table at my publisher’s office, Billy Blue.
It was nice getting to know her, and I’m looking forward to sharing those Trop Rock stages with her this October in front of the Parrot Head Nation.
SURPRISE MEETING
One of the things that happens when I’m in the Billy Blue building is bumping into some pretty cool folks, writers, artists and more. Yesterday, Bobby G. Rice was in the building writing with a couple of friends of mine, Alex Miller and Mike Richards. Bobby is pictured on the right.
Back in the day, Bobby had some big hits, including “Easy On My Mind”, “Sugar Shack”, and more. Those releases came on 45 rpm records to the first radio station I worked at as a kid in Missouri…KPCR Radio. I told Bobby that I was pretty sure he owed me money, as I played so many of his songs on the radio.
Nice man…it was great seeing him after so many years.
IN THE STUDIO
Right after my co-write, I went into the studio with Wil Nance and Irene Kelley to record vocals on a song the three of us wrote that just rocks.
And the great part about this song that we truly love is the fact that Craig Fuller, who wrote the song Amie for Pure Prairie League, and was the singer on that hit record, is going to sing part of this song that mentions that hit, “Amie, what you wanna do”.
To say we’re a little excited about this song would be an understatement. And in the business of songwriting, you don’t get over-excited a lot because it’s just so hard to get songs recorded by an artist, and then get it on the charts and the radio. And while there’s no guarantee that this song will have that kind of luck, we all three know it’s pretty special. We’ll see what happens.
SONG OF THE DAY
This, for a change, is not a song I wrote. But it’s a special song. It’s the song I sang to my wife before we exchanged vows, “The Love She Found In Me” that was a hit for Gary Morris. She was surprised. My piano player at the time, Doug Mayo, was there, and he snuck up to the piano and played while I sang these lyrics to her. And since this is our anniversary, it seems appropriate. The lyrics hang in a frame in our home.
She
looked into a heart so sad
And saw what no other ever had
Beneath the snow she saw the spring
She finds good in ev'rything
Give
her thorns and she'll find the roses
Give her sand and she'll find the sea
Give her rain and she'll find the rainbows
Just see the love she found in me
Just see the love she found in me
She
looks beneath each tear that's cried
And somehow sees the sunny side
And even on the darkest night
She knows where to find the light
Give
her thorns and she'll find the roses
Give her sand and she'll find the sea
Give her rain and she'll find the rainbows
Just see the love she found in me
Just see the love she found in me
And
when the world starts closin' in
She gives me strength to smile again
HEALTH NOTES
Older Americans are increasing their use of marijuana to the point where some geriatricians are warning about weed’s attendant health risks. Marijuana use for those 65 and older surged nearly 46% from 2021 to 2023.
New research suggests that refined carbs may reduce the chances of healthy aging among women.
The FDA just approved the first AI tool to predict breast cancer risk.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Surely that one hangs at the DMV office. Surely.
NOT DEAD YET
How about this story from the Czech Republic? A coroner declares an 88-year-old woman dead. As she’s being moved to a coffin, he discovers that she’s not. Uh…I don’t want that.
I think that kind of makes up my mind about whether I want to be cremated or buried. I’m leaning towards burial in case the same thing happens.
And that makes me think about what Yogi Berra told his wife when she asked Yogi if he wanted to be buried or cremated? Yogi told her, “Let me think about it”. He goes to bed, and the next morning he tells his wife, “I’ve thought about it. Surprise me.”
BOOM!
This is remarkable. This is actor Nicolas Cage looking like the late Oakland Raiders coach John Madden, who he will play in a new movie about the Hall of Famer.
I would have never known that was Nic Cage.
I wonder if this John Madden Thanksgiving Day classic will show up in the movie?
CMA FEST
That hits town starting tomorrow. Country music fans from all around the world will invade Nashville to buy fanny packs, cowboy boots, see concerts, and stand in line for hours to try and get an autograph.
Just in time for the event, Post Malone announces he’s adding yet another celebrity bar to Lower Broadway, and Kid Rock just opened a new restaurant.
My note to the tourists would be that they need to remember that there is no law that requires them to ride a pedal tavern.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
His First Date Ended With 5 Wrecked Police Cars. (Might have been his first date with the Po Po’s as well)
TODAY
Some quiet time with the wife, celebrating our anniversary today. Happy Anniversary to us.
Have a great Wednesday!
