Last Second Song...A Veteran Moment...ACM Coverage Tonight

BILL BLOG Thursday May 8, 2025  It’s Thursday morning and I’m on my first cup of coffee. A little more light rain is on tap today in Nashville and it will be a 75-degree high for today.   YESTERDAY My Wednesday had an unexpected twist. My writing appointment had been cancelled because a co-writer got sick. I had the day open. But while I was out running errands my friend Wil Nance called to ask what I was doing. I told him I was on his side of town running an errand. He then told me our mutual friend Irene Kelley was going to be at his writing cabin that morning and invited me to join in. So with no guitar, and no computer, as I normally carry to writing sessions I drove over to Wil’s place and I’m surely glad I did as the three of us wrote a really cool and “catchy” song.   Wil’s brother Gary was at Wil’s house. Gary now lives in Gulf Shores, but was up visiting his Mom who now lives with Wil and his wife. And that was great because Gary ...

Horse Song Writing...Show Dates...Triplet Tip

BILL BLOG Wednesday May 7, 2025  It’s the first “Hump Day” in May. And a good Wednesday morning to you. Still cool for this time of year in middle Tennessee. A high of just 68 is predicted for today with some light rain.   YESTERDAY I drove down to Music Row yesterday and wrote with hit writer Wynn Varble and my young friend Alex Miller at BMG which is the big record-label-publishing company that Wynn writes for. My publishing company, where I mostly write is away from downtown which is a blessing because it allows me to miss the crazy traffic that has overtaken Music City. I do not miss that.   But I got there, took an elevator (after security passed me) up to the 4 th floor where all the songwriter’ hangout t and do their thing. Way too fancy for hillbillies now. We settled in and Alex shared a country swing idea he had. Wynn and I both liked it and we were off and running. Alex plays great guitar, so it was fun to hear him pick in the ...

Cinco de Late...Disney...The Byrd

BILL BLOG Tuesday May 6, 2025   Here comes Tuesday. It’s just 46 degrees as I begin today’s Blog with a high of 71 expected. A bit cool for Tennessee at this time of year.   YESTERDAY Pretty uneventful Monday around the Whyte House. I somehow forgot yesterday was Cinco de Mayo so the margarita blender went untouched. So, I’ll try to make up for that in the next paragraph.   SONG OF THE DAY Had I realized yesterday was indeed Cinco de Mayo I would have chosen Margarita Smile as my “Song of the Day” choice. So, I’m a day late and a margarita short here. But this is a fun song Brent Burns wrote a lot of but I got invited to help shape it up a little more. And that’s what we did.   This song turned out to be the title track for one of the numerous Trop Rock albums.   Turn up your volume and your margarita blender and listen.   HEALTH NOTES A new study published in the British Journal of Medicine found that just 75 m...

Cooler Weather...Two Show Weekend...St. Jude Contest

BILL BLOG Monday May 5, 2025   Monday morning arises, and man, has it cooled off in Nashville. We’ve gone from the 80’s to a high in the 50’s over the weekend, and our high today will be 58. As I start this blog the temperature is just 49 degrees. We’ve had a lot of rain over the past 3 or 4 days and that’s brought our temperatures down. I thought I was done with sweatshirts and pants and space heaters. But no.   THE WEEKEND It was a busy weekend that started with me and 5 other songwriters writing songs with folks who sell insurance. The Insurance company USI rewarded their top sellers and their families with a 3-day trip to Nashville, and a songwriting session with guys like me and my friends.   Each songwriter was paired with 6 different groups, and we wrote songs with those groups over hit songs. My two songs were “She’s in Love With The Boy” by Trisha Yearwood and “Achy Breaky Heart” by Billy Ray Cyrus . And we had to finish each song i...

Last Night's Show...Team Building Today...Show Tomorrow Night

BILL BLOG Friday May 2, 2025   Friday morning, and it’s the first weekend in May. 76 with rain today in Music City.   YESTERDAY I had a great show at the Listening Room CafĂ© with my musical buddies Victoria Venier & Steve Dean .   We had the 6 pm show there last night and played to a great crowd of tourists from all over the country. As far away as Oregon. This is a great venue to play in town. It’s large and it’s truly a LISTENING room where the room is quiet which is perfect for a songwriter’s show. If you’re coming to town, I’d encourage you to take in a show there. Always fun.   COOL TOUR! My friend Alex Miller who I write a lot with these days is getting ready to hit the road. And look what he named his tour.   His tour is named after the song I wrote with him and Emily Ann Roberts “Little More Country Than You” that they put out this year as a single that has done very well. First time I’ve ever had a do...
