Shows Ahead...A New Line Dance...Tax Day

BILL BLOG

Tuesday April 15, 2025

And a Happy Tuesday to y’all. Another storm rolled through here late last night that got a little loud. After a high of 84 in Nashville yesterday we’ll have a high of just 63 today. And that’s why the storm rolled through I’m guessing.

YESTERDAY

I had yesterday off from any appointments so I caught up on some things. My calendar will be full of traveling and shows in the back half of the year, so it’s nice to have some downtime for the next couple of months. Here’s a look at the upcoming shows through the end of May.

Thursday, May 1 I’ll be at the Listening Room Café here in Nashville with “Hits & Grins” alongside Steve Dean and Victoria Venier. This will be a 6 pm dinner show.

Friday May 2, I’m at the Omni Hotel in downtown Nashville for a private corporate event where myself and several other writers will be writing songs with corporate folks that will then be turned into line dances.

Saturday, May 3rd “Hits & Grins” will play the Grand Ole Barn out at Reba’s old estate Starstruck Farms in Lebanon, TN for a 7:30 pm dinner show.

Then May 24-26 I’m in Pensacola with Freedom Sings USA writing songs with veterans.

The complete tour schedule can be found here on the website.

SPEAKING OF LINE DANCING

This is kind of cool. The song “More Country Than You” from Alex Miller and Emily Ann Roberts that’s out now that the three of us wrote has been turned into a line dance by more than one group of dance instructors. Here’s ONE to check out. It’s amazing sometimes what happens with the songs you write.

SONG OF THE DAY

This is a duet I wrote with Gerald Smith and Janelle Arthur that Jeannie Kendall and Carl Acuff Jr. recorded “I Got You”. Jeannie of course was half of The Kendall’s duo with her late Dad Royce Kendall. The two of them had a slew of hits including their biggest “Heaven’s Just a Sin Away”. The two of them produced my only vinyl album back in the day so I’ve known them for a long while. Both are from my home state of Missouri near where I grew up.

A few years back my old manager and second Mom Dean Raymer who we lost a few years ago told me that Jeannie was going to record a new album and that I should send her some songs. Jeannie wound up recording 4 songs that I helped write including the one linked above. Thank you to Jeannie…and Dean!

HEALTH NOTES

Pfizer says it will end the development of a daily weight-loss pill after a liver injury.

Wood found in some Campbell’s soups has sparked a nationwide food alert.

A study has found that brown rice contains shocking amounts of toxin compared to white rice.

For the wine lovers…

TAX DAY

It is April 15.  You’ve turned your tax form in right? I’d have a better chance of figuring out a Rubik’s Cube than I would the tax form. Geez.

Will Rogers once said, “Income tax has made more liars out of Americans than golf”.

NASHVILLE BARS

The publication “Whiskey Riff” just ranked the celebrity honkytonks here in Nashville. And we have a bunch of them. Here’s their Top 5.

5…Morgan Wallen’s “This Bar and Tennessee Kitchen”. (look out for flying chairs though)

4…Miranda Lambert’s “Casa Rosa”.)

3…” The Redneck Riviera” owned by John Rich. (he shows up a lot in his bar)

2…A.J’s Good Time Bar

I've played there once for a corporate event with my "Hits & Grins" trio. Cool place. Pretty good food as well.

And their “best bar” choice is Eric Church’s “Chiefs”.

I’ve been to Chief’s recently and caught a concert upstairs in their performance theater. It’s beautiful and reminds you a bit of the Ryman Auditorium. I can see why they placed it at the top of the list.

At the very bottom of their list is Hank Jr’s “Boogie Bar”.

CREATIVE SELLING

In Nashville, we have a realtor trying to sell a home. As an incentive, she’s offering FREE eggs to whoever buys the home.

I can’t imagine the home will be on the market for very long.

THIS MADE ME LAUGH

Yep…time to walk away from the needle Doc.

FORE!

Rory McIlroy won the Masters on Sunday. A long-awaited win. And it sure wasn’t easy as he had to win it in a playoff. A lot of viewers wondered if he was going to choke. He did not. And yesterday Nike posted a perfect video commercial about that. If you’re a golf fan…you’ll love THIS.

Just scroll down a bit in the article to find it.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Woman Told Her Husband They Couldn’t Afford a Vacation This Year. So He Booked a Trip With Their Kids Without Her.

TODAY

I’m writing with Katrina Burgoyne who’s been working hard on finishing up an album that her talented husband is producing that will have three songs on it that the two of us have written. “Living the American Dream” is one of those. I’m looking forward to folks getting to hear those songs…and I’m looking forward to writing with Katrina again today.

Have a great Tuesday.

Target Songwriting...Chart Action...Droning On

BILL BLOG Thursday April 24, 2025  Thursday be here. We had a little thunderstorm roll through last night that watered all the plants and we have a little more of it in the forecast today in Nashville. A high of just 73 today.   YESTERDAY   My writing session was with Brian White and Don Poythress out at Brian’s place yesterday. I’ve written with Brian a few times. Brian has had a lot of his songs recorded including a lot of Christian hits including the recent Dove winner for Song of the Year, “ Looks Like Jesus ” for Brian Free & Assurance with Jimmy Fortune that was #1 for 8 weeks!   Meanwhile Don has a list of hits as well including cuts by Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton , and this Easton Corbin hit "" Little More Country Than That" .   It was my first time getting to write with Don who plays great guitar and has a wonderful singing voice himself. Yesterday we did some “targeted” writing as Brian had received a call fr...

Storm Weary...Wrestling Church...Gators

BILL BLOG Friday April 4, 2025  Friday morning in soggy Nashville.   YESTERDAY It was another day of storms, tornadoes, and a whole lot of flooding. And it sounds like we could get more and nobody wants that. Folks are storm-weary from the constant flood and tornado warnings that have been lighting up our phones for the past couple of days and nights. Hallways have become bedrooms for some. Schools are still closed today because of the flooding and damage and the weather forecast predicts that we are still not done with this system that just won’t go away. There are now 5 confirmed deaths so far.   Across the region where these storms have been constant the weather service has issued over 300 tornado warnings. There were a lot of big wind-walls like this one that hit near Nashville.   Selmer, Tennessee…also near Nashville was really hit hard.   Our house is on a hill so we don’t worry much about flooding. But I’m going to...

New Song Recorded...Lulu...Book On The Way

BILL BLOG Friday April 25, 2025   Here comes the weekend. It’s Friday once again. A high of 71 today with more rain on the way.   YESTERDAY I wrote with young Taylon Hope for the first time in a long while. Taylon is now a Sophomore at Belmont, University here in Nashville, and she’s chasing her musical dreams. We were to write in person and then one of her professors scheduled a test that would have conflicted so we wrote online instead and created a fun song for her that will be something she can add to her set list when she’s out performing “live”.   I’m rooting for some of her dreams to come true as I am so many other young talents in this crazy creative town.   BURN ME DOWN An American Idol contestant from a year ago, Kennedy Reid reached out to me a few months ago through a producer friers asking for songs for consideration for an album she was going to record. I sent three or 4 songs and ,she recorded one of those that I w...
