Versailles On The Phone...Seals & Croft 2 Single Coming...Willie's Cows

BILL BLOG

Monday October 14, 2024

Monday morning is here…start of a new October week. And we are getting ready to hit the “chill” button. Just 64 for a high today and the lows will be down in the 30’s some this week. Fall just fell big time I think.

And I know Fall is fast approaching when I read an article titled “Ways To Make Sure Your Fireplace Is Safe.”

And I also know we’re getting close to Halloween when I keep seeing this everywhere.

I don’t know why witches don’t use their GPS.

THE WEEKEND

It was pretty chill around the Whyte House this week. Beautiful weather and there was a lot of football and baseball on the big screen. I’m starting to master “lazy” weekends while I’m home.

Yesterday morning though my daughter Heather Facetimed me as she and her husband Casey took a train from Paris to Versailles, France.

So I got to see the world famous Versailles gardens right from their iPhone. Technology is amazing sometimes.

So I sat there thinking what a great life they’re having as they took a train in Europe to get there, while I took my SUV to the grocery store to stock up on football snacks. Sigh.

COUNTRY FAITH

The new Kristen Leigh Bearfield single “Country Faith” that is the theme song to her TV show on “The Singing Bee” was released on Friday and we got news that “Bluegrass Junction” on XM is already playing the heck out of it which is a great thing. I wrote this song with Kristen and Bob Minner and mentioned last week that some of the proceeds from downloads and sales will go to parts of Western Carolina where Kristen is from to give a little aid to those who have suffered because of the flooding from hurricane Helene.

In fact another young, noted bluegrass artist that I write with Caroline Owens sent us this picture as she and her Mom were driving somewhere.

So we’re all hoping this might be a sign that they’ll be playing this song a lot.

RUNNING TO THE SUN

I also found out over the weekend that Seals & Crofts 2…the duo made up of my friend Brady Seals who’s related to Jimmy Seals, and Lua Croft who’d the daughter of Dash Crofts will be releasing a song a wrote several years ago that I’ve always loved next month. The song is title “Running to the Sun” and I’m really excited that this song is going to get out by these two next month. I remain a big fan of the original Seals & Crofts and I love these two as well. The two perform together quite a bit and sing some of those iconic hits of Seals and Crofts…here’s an example of their wonderful harmony on “Diamond Girl.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today I’m selecting this song “Looking For Audrey” that I wrote with Bobby Tomberlin and Linda Davis. Bobby put the song on one of his albums, and Bobby Mackey up in the Cincinnati area has also recorded the song.

Bobby is from Alabama and is knee deep in Hank Williams history. Knows the family…hangs out with Hank Jr some so that lets you know. When we wrote that day Bobby had just visited the Hank Williams Museum in Montgomery, Alabama that houses the blue Cadillac that Hank owned.

The first line in our song about Hank stopping at a bar every night looking for his ex-wife Audrey is:

He poured out of the back, of a blue Cadillac”.

Audrey Williams and Hank had a contentious relationship but most felt Hank never got over losing Audrey…and that’s what the song is about. Audrey used to own a cabin in Gatlinburg where she and Hank Jr. used to hangout some. Bobby knew the family members and played them our song. They liked it so much that they requested a lyric sheet that Bobby wrote out and he, Linda and I signed it. It hangs now in that cabin.

And somewhere I have a video of me and Bobby singing “Audrey” in that cabin we visited one night. Pretty awesome.

SHOW THIS WEEK

This Friday I’m in Effingham, Illinois at the Performance Arts Center with our “Evening in the Round” show starring Linda Davis with Lang Scott & me. Looking forward to that…and maybe seeing some friends from my home state of Missouri. Here’s a little VIDEO that will give you all the information you need.

HEALTH NOTES

Human bird flu cases grow with 2 more confirmed out in California.

Break dancers are reportedly getting weird lumps from spinning on their heads. Some of the experts claim they’re doing it wrong. So…there are right ways and wrong ways folks to be spinning on your head.

There’s a rise in COVID as the XEC variant is spreading according to those in the COVID know.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Pretty sure this is Willie’s herd of milk cows.

HOME PRICES

Realtor.com says home prices are becoming more affordable in some cities. They listed these in their top 5 markets as far as biggest home price discounts over the last year.

5…Austin 6.6%

4…Kansas City 8.4% drop

3…San Francisco 8.9%

2…Cincinnati 9.5%

And Miami had a 12.4% drop in prices in that market

THEM AND US

Rapper Cardi B just had a birthday week in Paris and she rented a little modest Airbnb. The modest place cost $50,000 per night. Wow.

I just checked my finances. My birthday celebration will be held in a place a little more affordable.

ROBOTS AT HOME

Elon Musk is predicting all of us will own one of these robots one day that can cook, clean house, baby sit, pour us a drink and play games with us. The humanoid robots could be out by the end of 2025. It will set you back 20-30 thousand dollars to own one of these bad boys.

It they are capable of helping me find my cell phone when I lose it…I might consider picking up one.

ANOTHER HONKYTONK

You can’t swing a guitar in downtown Nashville without hitting a “celebrity” bar. And now Jelly Roll is getting set to open one to be named “Jelly Roll’s Goodnight Nashville”. They just keep coming.

One of my jokes on stage these days is that I’m thinking about tattooing my calories all over my face and go out on tour as “Bellyroll”. I should be posting tour dates soon. I’ll be playing at Cracker Barrels everywhere.

THE KIND OF STUFF THAT MAKES YOU SMILE

Check out this VIDEO of a young junior golfer hitting a hole in one in front of pro-golfer Tony Finau. It just doesn’t get any more fun than that!

THANK YOU!

Amazon Prime just announced they will not air any political ads during their football broadcasts this year. That might be refreshing. I have no idea if they’ll also disallow ED commercials…so stay tuned.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Woman Caught Trying To Sneak 26 Turtles From The US Into Canada By Kayak

Not something one sees every day. Those turtles sell for a thousand each on the China black market so she could be fined up to $250,000 and spend ten years in prison. Who knew that turtle smuggling was so serious?

TODAY

I’m off to write a Christmas song with Shantell Ogden and she’s invited one of my “Hits & Grins” partners Victoria Venier to join us at my publishing company. Shantell is working on a little Christmas movie that she’s producing so I’ll be staying after the fact to play a songwriter on camera. There’s a stretch. So I’m in need of serious makeup.

Have a great Monday!

Freedom Sings USA Event...A Gold Star Mom...An Old Friend Surprise

BILL BLOG Monday September 9, 2024 Monday morning and I’m back home in Nashville from Marion, Illinois. Sunshine and a high of 84 today here in Music City.       THE WEEKEND Thursday I made the three hour trip up to Marion, Illinois for our Freedom Sings USA songwriter retreat with songwriters Bobby Tomberlin , Steve Dean , Irene Kelley, and Don Goodman.   Marion is in southern Illinois…beautiful town and the folks who organized the event were so kind and passionate about honoring their veterans. Friday night they had a “meet and greet” in a beautiful old church where we had a great dinner and then played a show for all of those who attended. The Mayor, the organizers and the veterans.   Each songwriter met the veteran they were going to write with that night. This is mine. His name is Art Fager .   More on Art in a second.   FRIDAY Friday morning we gathered in yet another church for early breakfast and then each songwriter sat down wit

BILL BLOG Friday July 26, 2024   Friday morning…rolling into a late July weekend. 82 for the high in Twang Town today with a little rain in the mix.   YESTERDAY I had a very full Wednesday that started with writing a new funny song with young Ethan Phillips who walked into the writing room and said something in conversation that led us to writing what he said about women being compared to a volcano. We may have had WAY too much fun writing that thought. And it could very well turn out to be a song I put on my set list from time to time when I’m out performing.   LUNCH We finished up in time for me to run down south of Nashville to have lunch with my friends Linda Davis & Lang Scott and our mutual friends Richard & Donna Lynch who run a wonderful venue in Waynesville, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati called the “Keep It Country Farm”.   Linda, Lang and myself did a show for them last year and had the best time. They turned part of their f

Beach Rhymes...Football Kickoff...Freedom Sings USA Trip

BILL BLOG Thursday September 5, 2024   Thursday arises and I have a day of traveling to Marion, Illinois. More on that at the end of today’s Blog. Back up to 90 with sun today.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Darrell Clanton yesterday for the first time. Darrell lives in Lakeland, Florida with his wife and back in the day he was an artist here in Nashville and had a couple of country songs on the charts, and had several folks record his songs.     These days Darrell and his band “Bad Habit” are very active in the Trop Rock genre playing a lot of beach music and beach shows. A couple of years ago Darrell and I played the Jim Parker Songwriter Show in Huntsville, Alabama along with my buddy Brent Burns . And then Darrell and I just played it again a few months ago. Then yesterday I really got to know him and we did write a beach song for him.   We’ll be writing more for sure in the future. And there’s a chance that sometime next year that we’ll do a cruise toget
