Effingham Show Tonight...Mo Mo Again...Stolen Cars

BILL BLOG

Thursday October 17, 2024

Thursday morning and I’m packed for a road trip to Illinois today for a show tomorrow night in Effingham, Illinois. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.

65 for the Music City high today…down to a leg warmer 37 tonight.

YESTERDAY

I wrote with young Carson Peters of Carson Peters and Iron Mountain along with our mutual friend Ethan Phillips and before we got started Ethan regaled us with a story about golfer John Daly walking into his gig the night before with 20 of his buddies and taking over his stage for several hours. John fancies himself a guitar player and singer and apparently he likes the 19th hole quite a bit as well. Can’t repeat all the story…but it was a memorable and a good way to kick off our first writing session.

I brought an up-tempo bluegrass idea both guys liked and that’s what we wrote. Carson at the age of 18 or 19 is a phenomenal fiddle player AND guitar player and showed off some of his skill set when we recorded the song after finishing it.

For me it’s always fun getting to hang around such talented young artists and writers. It was a very good Wednesday!

SONG OF THE DAY

Since we’re talking golf…I’d thought I’d share another song I wrote with Cledus T. Judd that he recorded and made this funny VIDEO of…”Man Crush”…all about his crush on golfer Tiger Woods. This is a parody of the big hit by “Little Big Town” "Girl Crush." Pretty danged funny.

MORE MO MO

Yep…the first record I ever recorded was “Mo Mo” the Missouri Monster about a big foot in Louisiana, Missouri. I’ve blogged about it many time here, so I won’t try to go into detail about the story that went worldwide way back when. But…if you want to learn more you can listen to a podcast that’s accessible today that retells the story.

The story is being featured on the Missouri Department of Conservation podcast “Nature Boost” hosted by Jill Pritchard who reached out to me last month asking for a copy of the record to use on this podcast.

This ARTICLEwill tell you more, and here’s the LINK to listen if you’d like. Be advised that the portion of the song they used is distorted on their podcast for some reason, but the story comes through.

HEALTH NOTES

A new Japanese study shows marked increase in dementia in older people who do not converse much if at all daily.

New studies suggest that mouthguards are just as effective as CPAP machines for those who suffer from sleep apnea.

Yet another study is saying that suicidal thoughts are less likely in youths on weight loss drugs.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Thank goodness!

LOVE THE CREATIVITY

Megan Bannon, a Tennessee author who wrote a book about her breast cancer experience after having her breast removed has just published a book to help other. Great title. “You Can’t Take Them With You”. Humor can sometimes be inspiring as well as informative.

Freedom Sings USA Event...A Gold Star Mom...An Old Friend Surprise

BILL BLOG Monday September 9, 2024 Monday morning and I’m back home in Nashville from Marion, Illinois. Sunshine and a high of 84 today here in Music City.       THE WEEKEND Thursday I made the three hour trip up to Marion, Illinois for our Freedom Sings USA songwriter retreat with songwriters Bobby Tomberlin , Steve Dean , Irene Kelley, and Don Goodman.   Marion is in southern Illinois…beautiful town and the folks who organized the event were so kind and passionate about honoring their veterans. Friday night they had a “meet and greet” in a beautiful old church where we had a great dinner and then played a show for all of those who attended. The Mayor, the organizers and the veterans.   Each songwriter met the veteran they were going to write with that night. This is mine. His name is Art Fager .   More on Art in a second.   FRIDAY Friday morning we gathered in yet another church for early breakfast and then each songwriter sat down wit

Beach Rhymes...Football Kickoff...Freedom Sings USA Trip

BILL BLOG Thursday September 5, 2024   Thursday arises and I have a day of traveling to Marion, Illinois. More on that at the end of today’s Blog. Back up to 90 with sun today.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Darrell Clanton yesterday for the first time. Darrell lives in Lakeland, Florida with his wife and back in the day he was an artist here in Nashville and had a couple of country songs on the charts, and had several folks record his songs.     These days Darrell and his band “Bad Habit” are very active in the Trop Rock genre playing a lot of beach music and beach shows. A couple of years ago Darrell and I played the Jim Parker Songwriter Show in Huntsville, Alabama along with my buddy Brent Burns . And then Darrell and I just played it again a few months ago. Then yesterday I really got to know him and we did write a beach song for him.   We’ll be writing more for sure in the future. And there’s a chance that sometime next year that we’ll do a cruise toget

Funny Song...Music Luncheon...Gladiator

BILL BLOG Friday July 26, 2024   Friday morning…rolling into a late July weekend. 82 for the high in Twang Town today with a little rain in the mix.   YESTERDAY I had a very full Wednesday that started with writing a new funny song with young Ethan Phillips who walked into the writing room and said something in conversation that led us to writing what he said about women being compared to a volcano. We may have had WAY too much fun writing that thought. And it could very well turn out to be a song I put on my set list from time to time when I’m out performing.   LUNCH We finished up in time for me to run down south of Nashville to have lunch with my friends Linda Davis & Lang Scott and our mutual friends Richard & Donna Lynch who run a wonderful venue in Waynesville, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati called the “Keep It Country Farm”.   Linda, Lang and myself did a show for them last year and had the best time. They turned part of their f
