Hello Monday morning. How did you get here so fast again? Starting to warm up in Nashville again after several rainy days. 88 for high today.
THE WEEKEND
It was an unbusy weekend here in Nashville but I did spend a lot of time driving…unexpectedly. Saturday I was out and had to find a new way to get home as I-40 was completely SHUT DOWN. When the police cars showed up barricading the entrance, there were no detour signs. What in the world?!
And then I remembered that Trump was in town to speak at a Bitcoin conference downtown. My route home would normally take me right by BNA airport. Normally. Not Saturday. My 10 minutes away from home thing turned into an hour adventure slow poking down two lane roads.
He came to Nashville to tell us not to sell our Bitcoins at a big bitcoin conference held here. Well, if I had any Bitcoins…maybe. I have held onto my daughter’s Beanie baby collection. Does that count?
SUMMER OLYMPICS
I did watch some of the Summer Olympics. So far the moment that has stood out the most during what many consider to be a controversial Opening Ceremony was when Celine Dion made a triumphant return singing on the Eiffel Tower. If you know what she’s been going through with “stiff person syndrome” then you know what an incredible performance this was. I was working in my office Friday and had the TV on and just happened to look over and see that she was about to sing. Everything stopped at that moment. I just thought that “wow”…considering everything…that might be one of the best vocal performances ever.
In all 28.6 million watched the Opening Ceremonies on NBC. And the American’s are off to a pretty good start leading the medal count as of now.
A LITTLE EARLY?
I think so. I walked into a Hallmark Card store this weekend and look! The danged Halloween cards are already available for purchase!
Good Lord. The Christmas section should be up next week I suppose.
THE NELONS
What an absolutely tragic story over the weekend as the Nelon gospel singing family lost three family members and in all 7 people died in a plane crash in Wyoming as the family was headed to join the Gaither group for a cruise to Alaska. Only the youngest daughter Autumn survived as she remained behind as she and her husband are prepared to deliver a baby.
I feel as
if I know them though for a couple of reasons. They record a lot of their music
in the studio housed in the building that I write songs in. Daywind Publishing
records a lot of gospel music, and the Nelons are one of their acts. So several
folks in that building who knew them well, including my publisher are crushed
by the news. And the group records for Daywind Records.
And the other connection to them is the fact that the Nelons wanted to record a song I helped write “God Never Made A Mountain” that Kristy Cox recorded instead on her new album. The record label and publishing company that I work with, Billy Blue, basically asked them not to record the song because they wanted it exclusively for Kristy. So yea, I feel a little connected. Just an incredibly sad story.
GARY BIRTHDAY
I want to say Happy Birthday to my brother Gary who blew out candles over the weekend. He’s a year younger than me, and neither of us are going to tell you how many candles he blew out. We grew up close in Missouri. Hunted, fished, played softball together, played music together (he played bass) and went to college together. He went on to retire Air Force as an officer and then he had a very successful career in business after that. Could not be prouder to call him my brother.
HEALTH NOTES
The medical folks point out that those with Blood Type A are more likely to suffer a stroke before the age of 60 as opposed to those with other blood types.
Research is revealing that weight loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy has led to people buying less at the grocery store.
A new study is claiming that a double mastectomy to beat breast cancer will not improve survival chances. (Anyone not hate cancer?)
WHAT?
I can only guess this must be a bathroom that some of the Cirque de Soleil performers have visited a time or three.
DEAR SANTA
I think I need one of these under the Christmas tree this year.
1,064 horsepower under the hood of the new Corvette ZR1 and it can go 215 mph. Fastest ever built. And it will only cost you $120,000. Dear Santa…I’ve been really good this year.
ALSO EXPENSIVE
That would be starter homes. A starter home in 237 U.S. cities now start at $1 million dollars! Geez. You can probably guess the states that hold most of those cities…certainly the top state which is California…by far. 117 cities in California. 31 in New York, Jersey has 21, Florida 11, and Massachusetts has 11. That’s the top 5.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
To Mick Jagger of “The Stones” who turned 81 and STILL dances, and gyrates, and runs all over the stage like a 20 year old kid. Hope for all of us. He surely has a chiropractor on his staff right?
BIG BOX OFFICE
The new Deadpool and Wolverine movie got people back into movie theaters big time this weekend. $205 million on opening weekend making it the largest R rated movie opener of all time…and landing it in the Top 10 of all movies for an opening weekend.
To heck with investing in Bitcoins as Trump suggested. I think I’ll pour my investment into Marvel Movies.
What’s the joke about Bitcoins? Oh yea. Someone explained, “Dungeons and Dragons is a lot like Bitcoin. I know it’s popular but I don’t understand it.”
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
“Florida Woman 79 Says Pickleball Saved My Sight”. Who knew Pickleball was good for that too?
TODAY
I’m writing with my Aussie friend Katrina Burgoyne this morning. First time in a while…and for a darned good reason. She and her hubby had their first child together a few months back. So it will be nice to congratulate her and ask her about our song “Wife Trial” that she recorded. Pretty funny. Check the song out right HERE.
Have a great Monday!
