1 Guy 2 Girl Song...Mo Mo The Missouri Monster...Hollywood Stuff

BILL BLOG

Wednesday July 31, 2024

Last Day of July and it’s a “Hump Day” Wednesday. And the last day of the month came in with a “bang” as it got really loud here last night with thunder and lightning going off for quite a while and that brought some more rain. One thunder clap last night was so loud it jolted me. Man. Looks like that may be going away as they’re calling for sunshine and “hot” almighty today. 93 mixed with a high heat index in Nashville.

YESTERDAY

I sat in a writing room with two talented young singer-writers. My friend Kennedy Scott joined me for the third time to write.

And she brought Victoria Camp with her, a Tuscaloosa, Alabama native and the three of us penned our first song together. Victoria is going to be singing some with the trio “Three Times A Lady” trio that feature incredible three-part harmony from the three members that now includes Victoria for some of their show dates. And we wrote a song that will feature each of the three girls on a verse each that will allow for some magical harmony singing that the trio does so well.

It was fun bringing the song to life with the two of them, and hopefully it’s one they’ll be recording one day.

MO MO

My friend Mike Thomas from KWRE-KFAV Radio in Warrenton Missouri sent me this picture yesterday with a note saying,  “Look what I played this morning on KWRE by request”.

That’s the first song I ever recorded about “Mo Mo” the Missouri Monster from all those years ago. And they are still playing it! I told Mike that if I knew then what I know now that I would do a TikTok video of it and the danged thing would probably go viral.

For those unfamiliar with the story of Mo Mo…check out this article that was written after I went back to Bowling Green, Missouri to perform the song on its 50th anniversary. A guy in a Big Foot outfit actually showed up and danced while I sang it to the packed crowd that night with all of them singing along.

And a state representative even gave me a plaque to commemorate the song that now hangs in the historical museum in Louisiana, Missouri where Mo Mo was first spotted.

I’m grateful that folks are STILL requesting the song. Who knew?

HEALTH NOTES

A study warns that many chocolate products contain toxic heavy metals.

COVID is indeed ramping up again. Several folks I know are down with it. The highest COVID rates at the moment are in the south and southwestern states. Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, and New Mexico being the worst.

Boar’s Head just recalled another 7 million pounds of their deli meat over listeria concerns.

AND THEN THERE’S THIS

Anyone else have a wife guilty of doing this?

SURVEY SAYS

That 86% of all renters say they can’t afford to buy a home and the majority feel like they will never be able to afford one. And the prices keep going up it seems. They were up anywhere from 5-7% again in the month of May.

VACUUM DOG

For those that can afford a home, you might want to buy one of these bad boys. A robotic dog that can suck up trash with it’s feet.

My wife wonders if the dog can also put the toilet seat back down for when I forget too.

THEY PAID WHAT? FOR WHAT?

At a big Hollywood auction a buyer paid $175,000 for the bikini Princess Leia wore in one of the Star Wars episodes worn by actress Carrie Fisher.

Another buyer ponied up $94,000 for Harry Potter’s wand. A stick…a danged stick!

And then there’s the buyer who paid a whopping 1.55 MILLION for the model of this Star Wars ship that took out the Death Star.

If I were still doing a radio show I would make that a phone topic this morning posing the question, “if you could afford it…what piece of memorabilia would you buy from a movie?”

I might go for the baseball that Kevin Costner tossed to his movie Dad in “Field of Dreams”. How about you?

UP AHEAD

I’m Huntsville, Alabama bound this Friday for a Trop Rock concert for the Jim Parker Songwriter Series. 6:30 pm show alongside Jim Parker, and Trop Rock artists Darrell Clanton & and Texan Brooke Graham. It’s dinner and then a show at the beautiful VBC Playhouse there in Huntsville.

And then next Wednesday night August 7 I have a songwriters round with Steve Dean and Australian artist-writer Suzy J and McNamara’s Irish Pub and Restaurant here in Nashville. 6:30 pm start for that one as well.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

This one from the satirical funny folks at Babylon Bee.

Kid Sadly Realizes He’s Too Intelligent To Ever Become President One Day”.

TODAY
I get to write with my bluegrass genius-buddy-writer-guitarist-author-teacher and more Tim Stafford who’s part of the award winning group Blue Highway. My entire goal when I get to write with someone as good as Tim is to try VERY hard not to suck.

Have a great Wednesday!

Freedom Sings USA Event...A Gold Star Mom...An Old Friend Surprise

BILL BLOG Monday September 9, 2024 Monday morning and I’m back home in Nashville from Marion, Illinois. Sunshine and a high of 84 today here in Music City.       THE WEEKEND Thursday I made the three hour trip up to Marion, Illinois for our Freedom Sings USA songwriter retreat with songwriters Bobby Tomberlin , Steve Dean , Irene Kelley, and Don Goodman.   Marion is in southern Illinois…beautiful town and the folks who organized the event were so kind and passionate about honoring their veterans. Friday night they had a “meet and greet” in a beautiful old church where we had a great dinner and then played a show for all of those who attended. The Mayor, the organizers and the veterans.   Each songwriter met the veteran they were going to write with that night. This is mine. His name is Art Fager .   More on Art in a second.   FRIDAY Friday morning we gathered in yet another church for early breakfast and...

BILL BLOG Friday November 22, 2024   Friday…the weekend be here! Little chillier going into the weekend with a high of just 49 today and the low tonight will dip down to 37.   YESTERDAY I rhymed with two friends yesterday Rick Lang and Kristy Cox . Though I have written with both many times, and each of them have recorded songs I’ve written with them, it was the first time the three of us sat down together. And yesterday we wrote a gospel song idea that Rick brought with him…pretty much an entire chorus.      I was able to share with Rick that I heard one of our songs “ Church Bells A Ringin ” that’s on the Blue Collar Gospel Album-Songs of Rick Lang on Sirius-XM on the way to our appointment sung by Danny Paisley and a group of great harmony singers. That was pretty cool.     And we got to celebrate with Kristy for her album “Let It Burn” that’s up for a couple of big Golden Guitar Awards this year including Best Albu...

Old Radio Friend...Country Faith...Most Southern State

BILL BLOG Monday November 25, 2024   Monday morning…the start of Thanksgiving week y’all. And I still have no idea what a giblet is.   69 with some light rain in Nashville today but getting MUCH colder by weeks end. On Friday our high will only be 44 with a below freezing low of 26. Ain’t ready for none of that now.   THE WEEKEND Mine started Friday morning writing with Alex Miller at my publishing company. We tweaked an old song we’d written a couple of months ago and made it stronger…and then wrote a stone-cold-by-God-unapologetic-sad-country song. Think George Jones sad. Pitiful really…but cool in a retro country way. The kind of stuff 21 year old Alex Miller likes to sing.   Following that Alex and I met an old radio friend from Eureka, California Rollin Trehearne and his wife and their friend at a Mexican restaurant. It was fun catching up with Rollin and introducing his group to my friend Alex.   Rollin Trehearn got his ...
