Rocky Top...Pensacola Trip...Guitars Flying

BILL BLOG Wednesday April 30, 2025   Here it is the end of April already. How can that be? 83 will be our high today in Nashville.   YESTERDAY I had the pleasure of sitting down and writing with Daryl Mosely for the second time to write. Daryl has been named the Bluegrass Songwriter of the Year 4 separate years! And at one point he was a member of the legendary Osborne Brothers. Surely by now, he must be sick of the song “Rocky Top”! No telling how many times he must have played that song with Sonny and Bobby while singing harmony on it. I forgot to ask him.     Daryl loves to write about real stuff. Country stuff. Down home stuff. I took that kind of idea to him yesterday, and it didn’t take us an hour to turn the idea into a catchy up-tempo bluegrass song. Fun day at the writing office.      FREEDOM SINGS PENSACOLA This poster you see below just came in yesterday promoting a weekend I’ll be part of at the end o...

More Country Than You...Hits & Grins Show...Yellowstone

BILL BLOG Tuesday April 29, 2025   Hello Tuesday. Warm today in Music City. A high of 84 with some light rain expected here today.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Alex Miller again yesterday at my publishing company, and we tackled an idea that he brought with him in his back pocket. We’ve still got some polishing to do on this one, but it’s always fun getting to sit and create something with Alex.   He shared with me that several of those little video teases of the song “ More Country Than You ” that he and Emily Ann Roberts recorded have each had over a million streams. I had no idea. Here’s one of those VIDEOS to check out.   So that was some good news to go along with the new song we wrote for sure.   THURSDAY NIGHT If you are in or near town this Thursday evening, come join me, Steve Dean & Victoria Venier for a 6 pm dinner show at the Listening Room CafĂ©. A truly great listening room experience. We hope to see you at...

Baseball Weekend...3 Shows This Week...Sasquatch City

BILL BLOG Monday April 28, 2025   Monday morning has rolled around again. After a high of just 67 in Nashville yesterday, today the temperature will shoot up to an 85-degree high.   THE WEEKEND It was pretty lazy around the Whyte House this weekend. But I did get out to catch my first baseball game of the season on Saturday night and watched our Nashville Sounds beat the Durham Bulls.   It was a great evening for baseball with temperatures just below 70 degrees. And I had the perfect view of the greatest baseball scoreboard ever.  Not a bad way to spend a Saturday night.   BUSY WEEK This week will be much busier as it’s filled with songwriting appointments and I have three shows in a row at the end of the week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.   All three shows are in town, one of them a private corporate gig on Friday morning. For more details on those shows, just click on the TOUR tab here on the website.   ...

New Song Recorded...Lulu...Book On The Way

BILL BLOG Friday April 25, 2025   Here comes the weekend. It’s Friday once again. A high of 71 today with more rain on the way.   YESTERDAY I wrote with young Taylon Hope for the first time in a long while. Taylon is now a Sophomore at Belmont, University here in Nashville, and she’s chasing her musical dreams. We were to write in person and then one of her professors scheduled a test that would have conflicted so we wrote online instead and created a fun song for her that will be something she can add to her set list when she’s out performing “live”.   I’m rooting for some of her dreams to come true as I am so many other young talents in this crazy creative town.   BURN ME DOWN An American Idol contestant from a year ago, Kennedy Reid reached out to me a few months ago through a producer friers asking for songs for consideration for an album she was going to record. I sent three or 4 songs and ,she recorded one of those that I w...

Target Songwriting...Chart Action...Droning On

BILL BLOG Thursday April 24, 2025  Thursday be here. We had a little thunderstorm roll through last night that watered all the plants and we have a little more of it in the forecast today in Nashville. A high of just 73 today.   YESTERDAY   My writing session was with Brian White and Don Poythress out at Brian’s place yesterday. I’ve written with Brian a few times. Brian has had a lot of his songs recorded including a lot of Christian hits including the recent Dove winner for Song of the Year, “ Looks Like Jesus ” for Brian Free & Assurance with Jimmy Fortune that was #1 for 8 weeks!   Meanwhile Don has a list of hits as well including cuts by Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton , and this Easton Corbin hit "" Little More Country Than That" .   It was my first time getting to write with Don who plays great guitar and has a wonderful singing voice himself. Yesterday we did some “targeted” writing as Brian had received a call fr...
