More Country Than You...Hits & Grins Show...Yellowstone

BILL BLOG

Tuesday April 29, 2025

Hello Tuesday. Warm today in Music City. A high of 84 with some light rain expected here today.

YESTERDAY

I wrote with Alex Miller again yesterday at my publishing company, and we tackled an idea that he brought with him in his back pocket. We’ve still got some polishing to do on this one, but it’s always fun getting to sit and create something with Alex.

He shared with me that several of those little video teases of the song “More Country Than You” that he and Emily Ann Roberts recorded have each had over a million streams. I had no idea. Here’s one of those VIDEOS to check out.

So that was some good news to go along with the new song we wrote for sure.

THURSDAY NIGHT

If you are in or near town this Thursday evening, come join me, Steve Dean & Victoria Venier for a 6 pm dinner show at the Listening Room Café. A truly great listening room experience. We hope to see you at this “Hits & Grins” show.

JUDGING

I’m happy to be a judge of singer-songwriters competing for a prize that will benefit St. Jude’s.

I received my first video entry yesterday and expect up to as many as 20 or so that two other judges and myself will review and ultimately vote for the winner. If the rest of the entries sound as good as the first en,try I just listened to it’s going to be hard to select just one winner.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today I’m sharing “In Memphis” that our “Hits & Grins” trio wrote together one day on a trip to Little Rock while we were stuck in traffic trying to get over the bridge into Arkansas. Outside our left window was downtown Memphis and Beale Street. And to our right was the world’s largest Bass Pro Store in the world.

We wound up performing that song that very night at our Little Rock show. Then “Hit’s & Grins” recorded it, as did Jeannie Kendall, and so did the TnT Duo that features Victoria Venier from our “Hits & Grins” trio along with her amazing partner Tabitha Fair. Complete with a horn section!

HEALTH NOTES

A new study claims that exercise can boost brain power.

PepsiCo has announced it will remove artificial ingredients from popular snacks by the end of this year.

A paralyzed man with ALS is the third patient to receive the NeuraLink implant that will allow him to type with his brain.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

 True.

DRONING ON

How about this BILLION dollar drone the Navy launched off an aircraft carrier yesterday? Massive.

Makes you wonder if one day there won’t be passenger drones with no pilots like the self-driving cars that are hitting the roads these days. I’m guessing the drone airline attendants will look like this.

CLEVER

An Atlantic City Hotel put this on their marquee. “We’ll Give You 8 to 5 Odds You Enjoy Your Stay”.

YELLOWSTONE

It turns out that producer Taylor Sheridan almost turned down making Yellowstone. He and Paramount couldn’t agree initially on how to make the series, and he almost walked away from the deal.

It was a good thing he didn’t, as the Yellowstone brand is now worth 3 BILLION dollars.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Mount Fuji Climber Rescued TWICE In One Week After Going Back To Retrieve His Cellphone From Japan’s Tallest Peak. (Proof of how addicted we are to those things)

TODAY

I’m writing for the second time today with bluegrass great Daryl Mosely, who has won more bluegrass awards than I can count. Looking forward to that.

Have a great Tuesday!

Storm Weary...Wrestling Church...Gators

BILL BLOG Friday April 4, 2025  Friday morning in soggy Nashville.   YESTERDAY It was another day of storms, tornadoes, and a whole lot of flooding. And it sounds like we could get more and nobody wants that. Folks are storm-weary from the constant flood and tornado warnings that have been lighting up our phones for the past couple of days and nights. Hallways have become bedrooms for some. Schools are still closed today because of the flooding and damage and the weather forecast predicts that we are still not done with this system that just won’t go away. There are now 5 confirmed deaths so far.   Across the region where these storms have been constant the weather service has issued over 300 tornado warnings. There were a lot of big wind-walls like this one that hit near Nashville.   Selmer, Tennessee…also near Nashville was really hit hard.   Our house is on a hill so we don’t worry much about flooding. But I’m going to...

ACM Awards Show...Frank Brown Songwriters Festival...Mother's Day Weekend

BILL BLOG Friday May 9, 2025  Here we go sneaking into a weekend. It’s Friday. Just 71 for the high today in Nashville.   YESTERDAY My Thursday morning started online writing a new up-tempo bluegrass song with Troy Engle in Pennsylvania. Troy plays every instrument that has strings on it, sings, writes, produces…not much he can’t do musically. When he lived in Nashville, he hung out a lot with Tom T Hall , played on numerous recording sessions, and was out on the road playing some instrument with the likes of Eric Church , The Isaacs and a long list of country stars.   But several years ago, Troy moved back to PA with his family and plays some shows up there with his family band, but still does a lot of recording work from home. He told me yesterday that his daughter may enroll at a University in Nashville next year and that might bring him back to Music City. It would be great to have him here and get to work him in person more.   ...

New Song Recorded...Lulu...Book On The Way

BILL BLOG Friday April 25, 2025   Here comes the weekend. It’s Friday once again. A high of 71 today with more rain on the way.   YESTERDAY I wrote with young Taylon Hope for the first time in a long while. Taylon is now a Sophomore at Belmont, University here in Nashville, and she’s chasing her musical dreams. We were to write in person and then one of her professors scheduled a test that would have conflicted so we wrote online instead and created a fun song for her that will be something she can add to her set list when she’s out performing “live”.   I’m rooting for some of her dreams to come true as I am so many other young talents in this crazy creative town.   BURN ME DOWN An American Idol contestant from a year ago, Kennedy Reid reached out to me a few months ago through a producer friers asking for songs for consideration for an album she was going to record. I sent three or 4 songs and ,she recorded one of those that I w...
