Freedom Sings Session...TV Show Songs...Christmas Movie

BILL BLOG

Wednesday March 12, 2025

Wednesday be here. We’ll have a 78-degree sunny day in Nashville. And the days are longer!

YESTERDAY

I spent time with my friend Steve Dean, one of the founders of Freedom Sings USA, the organization that pairs up songwriters with veterans to turn those veteran’s personal stories into songs.

Yesterday I laid vocals down for songs I’d written with three separate veterans over the past few years at Veteran retreats. All three of these songs will be on a Freedom Sings album soon. Musicians in Arkansas had already laid down some great musical tracks for these songs, so all I had to do was lay down the vocals.

Thank you to the vets who share their amazing stories with us.

MUSIC NEWS

My friend and frequent co-writer Jenny Tolman is going to be part of a new talent competition show called “The Road” that is being produced by Blake Shelton and Taylor Sheridan who’s the creator of “Yellowstone” “Landman” “Tulsa” and more. I received notice that parts of three or maybe even 4 songs I’ve written with Jenny and her husband Dave Brainard could be used on the show. That’s pretty cool.

Keith Urban will also be part of this TV show to air on CBS. They’re filming the show now, but it won’t air until this Fall on CBS.

AND THEN…

I also got the news that filming has begun here in Nashville for an independent Christmas movie titled “Music City Mistletoe” produced by Shantell Ogden. I’m going to have the movie title theme song on it that I wrote with Shantell and my friend Victoria and maybe one other. Stay tuned for more on that come this Christmas.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today’s song is “Grow” from my cowboy friend Paul Bogart. Paul and his wife Tanya were about to have their first child and Paul mentioned something about how fast kids grow. And they certainly do as any parent knows. And that thought turned into this song that Paul recorded about kids and other things that grow. Watch this video by hitting the link and you’ll see some great shots of Paul, with his family.

HEALTH NOTES

A Norovirus outbreak sickens 82 people on a Princess Cruise ship for the SECOND time this year.

RFK Jr. is warning against vaccinating birds amid avian flu saying, “You turn those flocks into mutation factories.”

A new study claims that red wine is no healthier than white wine.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

FLYING

Man, weird flying news just continues. Southwest Airlines was nice enough to send me an email informing me that they will now charge me for my bags when I fly Southwest. What made Southwest different than the other major carriers is gone.

At the Newark Airport, they caught a guy trying to stick a live turtle down his pants before he boarded a plane.

The NTSB revealed yesterday that there were 15,000 near misses between helicopters and planes at the DC Airport 3 years before that crash that claimed 67 lives.

Again, it’s been an odd month for the Airline industry for sure.

FASHION

The Paris fashion show is going on. This is one of the dresses spotted on the runway.

Since I played French Horn in High School I was hoping a model would wear a dress with that on the front…but no.

SANDWICH

Canadians are poking back at Donald Trump over his tariffs with humor sometimes. One restaurant in Canada now offers up the Donald Trump sandwich that features lots of Russian dressing with a small pickle.

IN NEW YORK

Reportedly rat sightings are up 119%! Every part of the Big Apple is seeing an increase. That won’t look good on a tourism poster for sure.

Makes me feel more comfortable about the skunk we’ve been seeing in our backyard recently.

I THINK I NEED THIS T-SHIRT

Maybe?

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Fire Crews Called After Smoke Seen In Sky…Turned Out To Be A Cloud. (Cumulus Nimbus I suspect)

TODAY

I’m writing online today with my Paris, Missouri friend Becky Denton who’s working on new songs to add to an upcoming album of hers. Wish us luck.

Have a great Wednesday.

A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG Tuesday November 26, 2024   Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.   YESTERDAY I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.   NEW SHOW On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.   And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he ne...

Quiet New Year...Ray Stevens...A Look Back

BILL BLOG January 1, 2025   Wednesday…bring with it the very first day of a New Year. Time flies don’t it?   YESTERDAY A lazy New Year’s Eve day around the Whyte House. My wife and I called our daughter Heather over in Germany to wish her a Happy Birthday…yep a New Year’s Eve kid. She and her husband Casey were in a theme park in the Netherlands called “Efteling” to celebrate the occasion. The two of them took us there when we were over in Germany last year so in our minds at least…we could picture where they were at. More on the Germany trip at the end of today’s Blog in the “Looking Back” section.   TWEAKING I also spent a little time on the phone with producer-writer-singer Jerry Salley who is recording a song I helped write with my friend Andrea Pearson tweaking some lyrics of that song that young-talented bluegrass artist Caroline Owens is getting ready to record on her next album. Heck of an up-tempo tune and we wanted to make s...

Fast Writing...Chart Action...Fun Duet

BILL BLOG Friday January 3, 2025   Friday morning and here comes the first weekend of the New Year. 42 for the high today but the forecast is showing we might get some rain and snow on Sunday. Nobody round here need that.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Thomm Jutz out at his house studio east of Nashville. Good stuff always seems to happen when I write with him. And yesterday was no exception. I brought a start to a song he liked, and we were finished in an hour I’d say and then recorded the song. Tom is such a tasty guitarist and he always makes anything I have mucho better.   And Thomm and I share the fact that we are both fast writers. As I packed up my guitar and walked out of the studio he joking said, “the only problem writing with you is that it takes SOOOO long.”    Good day of rhyming.   CHART Glad to see our song “ God Never Made A Mountain” by Kristy Cox , written with Andrea Pearson and Josh Shilling is still han...
