Hot Weather Song...European Traveling...Writing With A Voice Winner

BILL BLOG

Thursday August 29, 2024

Thursday morning…nearing the end of hot August with a 100 degree high in Music City today.

YESTERDAY

It was so HOT yesterday. How hot?  Hot enough that I wrote a beach song with Aubrey Wollett & Wil Nance out at Wil's little farm.

Aubrey was in town from Tampa where she lives with her husband who’s a “tile” guy…so much so he’s in Portugal shopping for a certain type of tyle…I guess. That’s a long way from the linoleum floors I used to walk on growing up as a kid in Missouri.

Aubrey will be recording a new “beachy” EP come this December so we wrote an idea she brought out to Wil’s little farm into a reggae kind of number that was fun so hopefully this little “ukelele” kind of song might make the project. Time will tell of course.

She's also big in the Trop Rock genre, an award winning artist actually. And if I don’t see her sooner I’ll see her in mid-November at MOTM…”Meeting of the Minds” the world’s largest gathering of parrot heads and beach song music lovers.

She won the “On The Horizon Artist” award just last year.

STAYING ON THE CHART

It was great seeing two gospel bluegrass songs that I helped write hanging on this chart you see below. “Blue Collar Gospel” is still near the very top at #2 this week from Jerry Salley & The Oak Ridge Boys.

And “God Never Made A Mountain” from Kristy Cox is at #10.

Congrats and thanks to my co-writers on these tunes that include Jerry Salley (who also produced both of these songs) and Rick Lang on “Blue Collar Gospel” and Andrea Pearson and Josh Shilling on “God Never Made A Mountain”.

HEALTH NOTES

A new study says that being socially isolated can lead to poor aging. Being connected to others improves over all well-being.

In China new research reveals that men who drink five times a week have a two-fold higher risk of gout than those drinking once a week. Gout being a painful version of arthritis. For women the risk is more moderate.

5 more deaths now have been linked to the Boar’s Head deli meat listeria outbreak.

Something to think about while driving today.

TRAVEL CHANGES

Starting in early November for the first time ever travelers from the USA entering Europe will be fingerprinted and registered as they’re stepping up security measures there. One of the worst things about going overseas is you’re on a long flight. So when you arrive you’re tired and you just want to get to wherever you’re going. Then you have to go through customs with the long line… and now add another layer of having to get registered and fingerprinted. So pack your patience in your carry on if you’re flying to Europe like we just did a few months ago when we visited our kids in Germany.

SURPRISING WELL PAYING JOBS

Did you know that drone pilots can make over $120,000 per year? Me neither.

Traveling nurses are raking in about the same.

And fire chiefs can make a hundred grand per year…and they don’t need a degree.

And I chose to be a songwriter…sigh.

POLITICS

Now this might be the best political yard sign ever.

THIS SATURDAY

Another reminder that I have a show in Lebanon, Tennessee, just outside of Nashville this Saturday at Starstruck Farm with my “Hits & Grins” trio that includes Steve Dean & Victoria Venier. It’s a dinner show. Dinner at 7 pm and then we play at 7:45. Beautiful performance venue, so please come join us this Saturday evening if you can!

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

From the funny satirical folks at Babylon Bee. They say there’s always some truth mixed into comedy…that would be the case with this headline they wrote:

Mom Drops Kids At Daycare To Work Second Job To Pay For Daycare.

TODAY
I’m writing with Todd Tilghman who many will remember as the winner of “The Voice” season 18 on “Team Blake”.  Great guy. He was a pastor for many years, married his high school sweetheart and he and his wife have 8 children together. He’s concentrating full time on his music career these days and we’ll see if we can’t write something he loves today. This will be our third or 4th time writing together I believe. Looking forward to hanging with him today.

Have a great Thursday!

Funny Song...Music Luncheon...Gladiator

BILL BLOG Friday July 26, 2024   Friday morning…rolling into a late July weekend. 82 for the high in Twang Town today with a little rain in the mix.   YESTERDAY I had a very full Wednesday that started with writing a new funny song with young Ethan Phillips who walked into the writing room and said something in conversation that led us to writing what he said about women being compared to a volcano. We may have had WAY too much fun writing that thought. And it could very well turn out to be a song I put on my set list from time to time when I’m out performing.   LUNCH We finished up in time for me to run down south of Nashville to have lunch with my friends Linda Davis & Lang Scott and our mutual friends Richard & Donna Lynch who run a wonderful venue in Waynesville, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati called the “Keep It Country Farm”.   Linda, Lang and myself did a show for them last year and had the best time. They turned part of their f

BILL BLOG Thursday July 18, 2024   Here it be…Thursday already. We had some needed rain roll in last night…pretty heavy and it’s going to cool things off here in Nashville. Today’s high will only be 83 after being in the high 90’s for several days. That’s going to feel like a breath of fresh air…literally.   YESTERDAY Another free day yesterday so pretty lazy around the Whyte House. I did some voting yesterday as the early round are up for voting in both the CMA Awards and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. So I cast early votes in both…final round voting will come later. Good luck to all and there are so many who deserve to win.   A JINGLE I talked with my northern Missouri friend Becky Denton yesterday as she was in town with her talented husband Will Denton who plays both drums and piano and he was in Nashville prepping for a show with a Tom Petty tribute band that he’s part of. A couple of years ago the three of us wrote a song to pitch to the Merschman

A Monte Cristo...A Trop Rock Show...An Upside Down Weenie

BILL BLOG Tuesday, July 23, 2024   Tuesday is rolling in. We had some rain yesterday, more coming today with a high of 82.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Alex Miller again yesterday…tore into a “country” song idea Alex brought with him in his back pocket that turned out to be something fun to chase in the writing room. The former American Idol kid is staying busy with dates back home in Kentucky and up in Ohio this weekend. He’s been in studio some as well and will be releasing a couple of new singles before the first of the year, one being a VERY fun country duet with “Voice” star Emily Ann Roberts that the 3 of us wrote one day that really shows off both of their fun and “country” personalities. Can’t wait for that to come up out.   SOMETHING NEW After we finished we grabbed lunch at a close local diner, the Music City Cafe that draws a lot of locals as well as a lot of country stars through the years. I had a “Monte Cristo” for the first time. Ham, c
