40 Year Anniversary Party...Over The Rainbow...Amish

BILL BLOG

Tuesday August 27, 2024

Tuesday morning and it’s going to feel like a sauna in Nashville. 98 here today.

YESTERDAY

My wife Kathy and I got to be part of a surprise party last night to celebrate the 40th anniversary of our dear friends Linda Davis & Lang Scott who I tour with quite a bit with our “Evening in the Round” show.

Their daughters Hillary & Riley went to great lengths to put together a very special evening for them, and all of us lucky enough to be invited to Jeff Ruby’s great steakhouse in downtown Nashville. And yes, I had a hot date for the gathering.

Each of their close friends and we as well got to speak from the heart about our love for them and their great family. It was memorable, and at times very moving as those in this circle all think the world of them and feel lucky to have them in our lives. And you can’t beat an evening that ends with a boot for dessert…all edible here folks.

The daughters put together a terrific slide film allowing us all to see them and us through the years. Even the mullet years for my friend Lang.

And Lang put up this throwback film of Linda when she was the Miss Panola Beauty Queen back in the day in Texas where she grew up.

This will truly be an evening none of us will forget. I’m honored to call them friends, family, and music soul mates.

HEALTH NOTES

There are now a billion obese folks in the world according to the latest statistics. The most obese country in the world they say is the island of Tonga out in the South Pacific. 71% are obese on the island.

They also say, whomever “they” are that the best vitamins to take for weight loss is Vitamin B, and Vitamin D.

A new study suggests that one can help improve sleep duration by incorporating short resistance, or strength training exercises in the evening before bedtime.

HARD TO BELIEVE

The Wizard of Oz is now 85 years old. That means those flying monkeys have been giving kids nightmares for a very long time.

The movie launched Judy Garland into stardom at a young age…partly on the strength of her singing one of the great melodies of all time in “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”. No telling how many hundreds or thousands of time the song has been recorded. And I love a lot of those versions but this one from Eva Cassidy of her singing it with just a guitar is one of my very favorites.

THE AMISH

Just keeping it real for those folks. Funny, and so is this song I wrote about the Amish…I think. Here’s a bit of “I’ll Join The Amish”.

SURVEY SAYS

That 56% of people surveyed says it would take $200,000 to make them happy. It would be hard to be unhappy if all of a sudden $200,000 showed up in my Venmo account. So…if you want to help make me happy, private message me and I’ll give you my Venmo info. Thanks you in advance.

VACATION

AAA listed the top spots Americans will go over Labor Day Weekend this year.

5 Boston

4 New York

3 Anchorage

2 Orlando

And for the second year in a row the #1 spot is Seattle. Part of the reason they say it’s #1 is because it’s a launch destination for Alaska cruises. Who knew?

HEADLINE OF THE DAY
Hundreds Gather To Watch ‘World Gravy Wrestling Championships’ At A UK Pub. (Hard to imagine that alcohol is involved right?

TODAY
My heartfelt condolences to my friend Darin Aldridge who I was to write with today along with his wife Brooke Aldridge. Darin unfortunately lost his Father yesterday. So we will obviously reschedule for another time. For anyone who’s been there, you know those are tough losses.

Have a great Tuesday!

BILL BLOG Friday July 26, 2024   Friday morning…rolling into a late July weekend. 82 for the high in Twang Town today with a little rain in the mix.   YESTERDAY I had a very full Wednesday that started with writing a new funny song with young Ethan Phillips who walked into the writing room and said something in conversation that led us to writing what he said about women being compared to a volcano. We may have had WAY too much fun writing that thought. And it could very well turn out to be a song I put on my set list from time to time when I’m out performing.   LUNCH We finished up in time for me to run down south of Nashville to have lunch with my friends Linda Davis & Lang Scott and our mutual friends Richard & Donna Lynch who run a wonderful venue in Waynesville, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati called the “Keep It Country Farm”.   Linda, Lang and myself did a show for them last year and had the best time. They turned part of their f

BILL BLOG Thursday July 18, 2024   Here it be…Thursday already. We had some needed rain roll in last night…pretty heavy and it’s going to cool things off here in Nashville. Today’s high will only be 83 after being in the high 90’s for several days. That’s going to feel like a breath of fresh air…literally.   YESTERDAY Another free day yesterday so pretty lazy around the Whyte House. I did some voting yesterday as the early round are up for voting in both the CMA Awards and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. So I cast early votes in both…final round voting will come later. Good luck to all and there are so many who deserve to win.   A JINGLE I talked with my northern Missouri friend Becky Denton yesterday as she was in town with her talented husband Will Denton who plays both drums and piano and he was in Nashville prepping for a show with a Tom Petty tribute band that he’s part of. A couple of years ago the three of us wrote a song to pitch to the Merschman

A Monte Cristo...A Trop Rock Show...An Upside Down Weenie

BILL BLOG Tuesday, July 23, 2024   Tuesday is rolling in. We had some rain yesterday, more coming today with a high of 82.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Alex Miller again yesterday…tore into a “country” song idea Alex brought with him in his back pocket that turned out to be something fun to chase in the writing room. The former American Idol kid is staying busy with dates back home in Kentucky and up in Ohio this weekend. He’s been in studio some as well and will be releasing a couple of new singles before the first of the year, one being a VERY fun country duet with “Voice” star Emily Ann Roberts that the 3 of us wrote one day that really shows off both of their fun and “country” personalities. Can’t wait for that to come up out.   SOMETHING NEW After we finished we grabbed lunch at a close local diner, the Music City Cafe that draws a lot of locals as well as a lot of country stars through the years. I had a “Monte Cristo” for the first time. Ham, c
