Veteran Song...Good Anthem Last Night...August Is Busy

BILL BLOG

Wednesday July 17, 2024

Wednesday has rolled up this morning. Right smack dab in the middle of the week. 90 degrees here today and maybe some rain.

YESTERDAY

I had pretty uneventful Tuesday. I recorded the song I wrote with Navy veteran Bobby Roberts in Memphis this past weekend with Freedom Sings USA and sent it to him and got the most heart-warming note back from him. Made me feel good as my only goal when I write with a veteran is to have them love their song. Kind of made my day.

Other than that, I tweaked a couple of songs that needed tweaking and then enjoyed the baseball All Star game last night. Still love that game a ton.

I got to see on All Star game when it was played in Cincinnati years ago. So much fun and the game was exciting taking place at old Riverfront Stadium there…home of the Big Red Machine.

THE ANTHEM

And now we know what we suspected. Ingrid Andress was drunk when she tried to sing the National Anthem at the Home Run Derby. Seeing her on camera a lot of folks knew something was amiss…drugs…drinking…something. She was drunk and has done the right thing and entered rehab. Good for her.

Hard to sing that song and do it justice when you’re sober. Can’t imagine singing it when you literally don’t have your feet under you. And it’s not like you’re singing “Achy Breaky Heart” in front of a national audience. You’re trying to sing the nation’s anthem.

MADE UP FOR IT

That would be country star Cody Johnson who did great job of singing our anthem right before the start of the All Star Game last night in Texas that the American League won 5-3. He just sang the melody. Nothing fancy…and it worked. Take a LISTEN and see. Thank you Cody!

WILDLOWER TOO

That song “Wildflower Too” has been a blessing. I wrote it with Darin & Brooke Aldridge who recorded it and released it as a single and it’s had a lot of airplay on radio…on those stations that play bluegrass music. Like “Bluegrass Junction” on XM-Sirius who made it their most played song for a month.

Yesterday Darin and Brooke posted this little partial acoustic version of our song singing it in a beautiful little cabin that they visit frequently. Check THIS OUT

AUGUST
I mentioned here yesterday that my next show is August 2, a Friday night at the Jim Parker Songwriter Series in Huntsville, Alabama…a Trop Rock dinner-show.

All the information you need on venues, tickets, location, and more is available here on the website in the TOUR section.

HEALTH NOTES

A sleep expert says if you exercise, like chair squats before you go to bed that it can help you sleep an extra half an hour.

COVID cases are reportedly VERY high again in 7 states. Those states are California, Arkansas, Florida, Maryland, Nevada, Oregon, and Texas.

There is more and more evidence that regular consumption of melatonin can reduce chances of age-related macular degeneration.

WELL OF COURSE SHE DID!

EXPENSIVE LIVING

Experts are saying that the salary you need today to afford a home is double what it was before the pandemic hit. And the price of homes just seems to keep going up. Even one of these tiny houses can set you back $20,000 to $50,000. Some even as high as $80,000.

Over the last 7 years home equity has doubled for most homeowners.

GATORS

North Carolina Police are warning residents of “aggressive alligators”. It’s nesting season and the female gators in particular can come after you if you get near their nest.

My wife comes after me sometimes if I get near her kitchen at the wrong time…and she Ain’t nesting for crying out loud.

COMEDY LINE OF THE DAY

This one from Jay Leno who once said, “Politics is just show business for ugly people.”

TODAY

My songwriting appointment got cancelled for today and rescheduled so I’ve got an unexpected day to nothing…which I’m SO good at.

Have a great Wednesday!

Freedom Sings USA Event...A Gold Star Mom...An Old Friend Surprise

BILL BLOG Monday September 9, 2024 Monday morning and I’m back home in Nashville from Marion, Illinois. Sunshine and a high of 84 today here in Music City.       THE WEEKEND Thursday I made the three hour trip up to Marion, Illinois for our Freedom Sings USA songwriter retreat with songwriters Bobby Tomberlin , Steve Dean , Irene Kelley, and Don Goodman.   Marion is in southern Illinois…beautiful town and the folks who organized the event were so kind and passionate about honoring their veterans. Friday night they had a “meet and greet” in a beautiful old church where we had a great dinner and then played a show for all of those who attended. The Mayor, the organizers and the veterans.   Each songwriter met the veteran they were going to write with that night. This is mine. His name is Art Fager .   More on Art in a second.   FRIDAY Friday morning we gathered in yet another church for early breakfast and then each songwriter sat down wit

Beach Rhymes...Football Kickoff...Freedom Sings USA Trip

BILL BLOG Thursday September 5, 2024   Thursday arises and I have a day of traveling to Marion, Illinois. More on that at the end of today’s Blog. Back up to 90 with sun today.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Darrell Clanton yesterday for the first time. Darrell lives in Lakeland, Florida with his wife and back in the day he was an artist here in Nashville and had a couple of country songs on the charts, and had several folks record his songs.     These days Darrell and his band “Bad Habit” are very active in the Trop Rock genre playing a lot of beach music and beach shows. A couple of years ago Darrell and I played the Jim Parker Songwriter Show in Huntsville, Alabama along with my buddy Brent Burns . And then Darrell and I just played it again a few months ago. Then yesterday I really got to know him and we did write a beach song for him.   We’ll be writing more for sure in the future. And there’s a chance that sometime next year that we’ll do a cruise toget

Funny Song...Music Luncheon...Gladiator

BILL BLOG Friday July 26, 2024   Friday morning…rolling into a late July weekend. 82 for the high in Twang Town today with a little rain in the mix.   YESTERDAY I had a very full Wednesday that started with writing a new funny song with young Ethan Phillips who walked into the writing room and said something in conversation that led us to writing what he said about women being compared to a volcano. We may have had WAY too much fun writing that thought. And it could very well turn out to be a song I put on my set list from time to time when I’m out performing.   LUNCH We finished up in time for me to run down south of Nashville to have lunch with my friends Linda Davis & Lang Scott and our mutual friends Richard & Donna Lynch who run a wonderful venue in Waynesville, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati called the “Keep It Country Farm”.   Linda, Lang and myself did a show for them last year and had the best time. They turned part of their f
