BILL BLOG
Thursday, August 20, 2026
Thursday has brought some needed rain to Nashville. In fact, the skies are making a loud rumble as I begin the Blog today. Despite the rain, we will hit 90 today.
YESTERDAY
My Wednesday was filled with troubleshooting. I upgraded my iPhone with AT&T, and that’s been a nightmare. I won’t tell you the entire story, but I did learn that you don’t want to upgrade or buy your phone from just any AT&T store. You want to make sure you go to a “corporate” store. Much less red tape and hassle, which I learned the hard way.
And then our internet kept going in and out, which put me on the phone forever with an Xfinity person or two or three, trying to figure out the problem. One finally did figure it out. But it was an ordeal.
Finally, I had a Doctor’s appointment, sat in the lobby for the longest time before a nurse was kind enough to announce to all of us in line that they were running one hour behind. Sigh.
So that was my thrilling Wednesday. How was yours?
PARROT HEADS ON THE BEACH
The big Parrot Head festival known as MOTM, or “Meeting of the Minds,” is coming up in October.
If you like beach music, Jimmy Buffett, margaritas, sandy beaches, sunshine, and a great party, you should most surely make plans to get to Gulf Shores and join us. I’ll be playing several times over the festival, including a special VIP show on Thursday morning of the festival.
And I’ll be at Lulu’s some, sitting in with my friend Brent Burns. More show times and venues coming soon.
But make plans to join us on the beach if you can. You’ll thank me later.
CHRISTMAS SHOW AHEAD
Looking forward to this great show coming up in the Christmas season in Virginia with Linda Davis & Lang Scott.
This will be our 4th year getting to do this wonderful concert. Food, music, laughter. Come join us and get in the Christmas spirit.
SONG OF THE DAY
Ray Stevens is recovering from a broken neck. A whole bunch of musical folks will be paying tribute to this legend on November 9 at the Opry House.
Ricky Skaggs, Ronnie Milsap, Lee Greenwood, the Gatlin Brothers and on and on. That should be a special night.
With that, I’m making the Ray Stevens song “Retired” my song of the day. The song Brent Burns and I wrote that Ray recorded the heck out of.
HEALTH NOTES
A blueberry recall over deadly E.coli fears hits FDA’s highest risk level with 12 people sick, and 4 other hospitalized.
Experts are warning of a COVID surge over the summer. Cases are up and growing.
Moderna has a new drug named Intismeran autogene that they claim will help keep melanoma, the deadliest skin cancer, from coming back.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Once again, it’s all about what you put your sign next to. Look twice before approving.
ANOTHER DAY OLDER, AND DEEPER IN DEBT
So said the late Tennessee Ernie Ford in his classic hit, “16 Tons.” And we are swimming in debt in America. In fact, we are over 40 TRILLION dollars in debt.
Makes me wonder why the government is not listening to this guy.
GUINNESS RECORD
This young woman just established a new Guinness Record.
She managed to scribble 150 words on one little sticky note.
Proof once again, that there is a Guinness Record for everything.
UPSIDE DOWN
How about these teenagers who got caught upside down on an amusement park in Oregon?
They were stuck that way for 25 minutes. Some got sick. Two of the teenagers sued, and won $550,000.
Makes me wonder if any money was owed to me all those times I got sick riding the “Scrambler” at the Montgomery County Fair back in Missouri.
SPEAKING OF TEENS
A 16-year-old girl jumped out of the stands at a football game here in the Nashville area last night, ran across the field, and tackled a player. He stood up, and she pushed him back down again.
She’s been charged, but nobody seems to know why she decided to become a football player herself.
In a Savannah Banana’s baseball game, if someone in the stands catches a foul ball, the batter is out. Maybe they’ll change the rules of football. If someone in the stands runs out and tackles a player, he’s down by contact. Maybe?
MUSIC NOTE
Statistics show that AI was detected in 40% of all new music released in July. Wow. And I don’t think the consumer cares that it’s not real. They just like what they like. But 40%? That’s a staggering number.
It’s the world we live in. The Doctor I visited with yesterday talked about how AI is changing the medical system. Robots are already in surgery rooms, and he thinks entire departments, like radiology, may have nothing but AI robots in charge. The kids in medical school are training with AI and robots, and their generation’s hospitals are going to look a lot different than the hospitals I visit.
Although I am wishing BIG time that a robot is never involved in prostate examinations.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Mike Bechtle:
“People can’t drive you crazy if you don’t give them the keys.”
TODAY
It’s a day to rehearse a few songs, pack a guitar and a bag for a trip to Mountain City, Tennessee, where I have a show Saturday night with Linda Davis and Lang Scott and the beautiful Heritage Hall Theatre.
Looking forward to playing for the folks there.
Have a great Thursday!
