Thursday morning, a little bleary-eyed. We’re back in the heat again today, with a high of 91 expected in Nashville. 

 

I was up late last night, so the Blog is being posted just a little later than normal this morning.  

 

YESTERDAY

What a magical night at the Bluebird Café for the 9 pm songwriter show Wil Nance, Mo Pitney, and Brady Seals. 

 

 

The place was packed, as it always is with folks from far and wide, including a nice couple who made the trip from Alberta, Canada, just to come to the Bluebird Café. And I don’t think they went home disappointed.

 

Wil Nance kicked us off with the great song he helped write for George Strait, “Where Have I Been All My Life,” and also performed his smash hit, “She’s Everything for Brad Paisley.

 

Curb Recording Artist Mo Pitney sang “Fiddle Around,” which he wrote with Wil and a couple of great new tunes. Mo is one of the best country singers in town, and folks were hanging on his every word and note last night. 

 

 

And Brady Seals got behind the piano to sing “What Might Have Been” for Little Texas, the group he was once a part of, and closed the night with “God Bless Texas,” which had the entire room singing along.

 

 

And I got in some funny songs, of course, like “Retired” and “Face For Radio.”

 

It’s hard to get a ticket, but it’s worth the effort to try and get in the Bluebird and hear the songs, the stories behind the songs, and the laughter. And we had plenty of that last night.

NEXT SHOW

On August 22, I’ll be at the Heritage Theatre in Mountain City, Tennessee with Linda Davis and Lang Scott for an “Evening in the Round” show over in East Tennessee. 

 

SONG OF THE DAY

Since I was in the round with Wil Nance last night, here’s a song the two of us wrote with our friend Lisa Shaffer titled “SomeThings Don’t Go Together.” The three of us wrote this maybe 20 years ago, and then just a couple of years ago I sent it to my friend Kristy Cox, who loved it and recorded it. Check it out. 

 Kristy will be releasing her new album in a few weeks that has a couple of songs of mine on it, including the first single off the album "No Regrets" that I wrote with Lauren Mascitti, and Kristen Leigh Bearfield. Can't wait for folks to get an ear full of this one. 

 

 

 

HEALTH NOTES

Colon cancer deaths dropped by half for people who did an at-home, no-laxative test program.

 

An influencer was left with 60 face stitches after her sunbed habit. It led to skin cancer.

 

Tick-borne ‘rabbit fever’ is spreading with cases reported near New York.

TIME TO BUY A TICKET

The Powerball is now worth 786 million dollars. Wow. And when the odds get so high that you really have no chance of winning? That’s when I buy, of course. Sigh.

 

Some folks have weird, funny thoughts about what they would do if they won the lotto.

 

One person said he would hire a personal penguin to waddle behind him and judge his enemies.

 

Another man claims they would consider calling the boss, but would then decide typing “I quit” in all caps on a sticky note would be more dramatic.

 

Good luck picking your numbers.

 

ONLY IN NASHVILLE

We actually have a bar which will allow you to bring in your pets and marry them to each other. Uh huh. That bar is Strega, and you can have an official wedding ceremony officiated by ordained ministers, complete with paw-print marriage certificates and celebratory treats. 

 

You can’t make this kind of stuff up.

MORE WEIRDNESS

A Welsh man was arrested for hanging out on top of a hospital dressed as the Grim Reaper. I'm pretty sure that most folks in the hospital don't want this guy nearby. 

 

My friend Wil Nance, who was in my songwriter round last night, has another song George Strait recorded, “It Takes All Kinds.” That fits for this story, doesn’t it?

Fodor just listed their top Most Disappointing Tourist Attractions, and they include:

 

The Navy Pier in Chicago

 

Graceland

 

Universal Studios in LA.

 

Times Square

 

Epcot (this one I highly disagree with…love EPCOT)

 

 

Maid of the Mist (The Niagara Falls boat ride)

 

Mt. Rushmore

 

Alcatraz

 

The Chihuly Gardens and Glass in Seattle

 

 

And the Bellagio Water Show in Vegas.

 

Somehow, they missed the World’s Largest Ball of Twine in Kansas.

I’m writing with Belinda Smith, who is a great Christian songwriter. AND, she has a great quirky sense of humor that I like.  I haven’t seen her for quite a while, as she has been really busy. So it will be fun to catch up and write something together again.
