Good morning from Cincinnati, Ohio. Also known as “The Queen City” and “Porkopolis.” They used to drive pigs down the street. Don’t ask.
I’m in Cincinnati for this.
She’ll be signing a bunch of her books, and we’re hoping to see a bunch of friends on Saturday.
YESTERDAY
My wife and I made the trip from Nashville to Cincinnati, and this was our first stop.
It’s the law. Had to have a three-way and a cheese coney before we ever checked into our room.
Shortly after check-in, I was sitting by the Pete Rose statue at Great American Ballpark.
And I was waiting for my friend from Dayton, Mark Bondurant, to join me.
Mark is a retired pharmacist, owned his own shop, and these days he writes songs for the same publishing company I do, Billy Blue Publishing. On the way up to Cincinnati, I called him at the last second to see if he wanted to join me. He was on the golf course at the time, and actually had a golf league he was to sub in last evening, but he cancelled that to go to the ballpark with me. And I’m glad he did, because he got us seats right behind home plate last night from the website Seat Geek. 50 bucks, and we had access to an indoor air-conditioned restaurant to kill an hour before the ballgame, having a hot dog and something cold to drink.
It could not have been a better evening, except for the fact that the Reds lost to the Phillies 1-0.
SONG OF THE DAY
Since I’m in Cincinnati, I’m going to share a song that a local country legend here, Bobby Mackey, recorded of a song I wrote with Bobby Tomberlin and Linda Davis, “Looking For Audrey”. This is the song about the ghost of Hank Williams going to the same bar every night looking for his ex-wife, Audrey Williams.
And these are the lyrics of the song we wrote that hangs in the cabin in Gatlinburg that Audrey used to own. Pretty cool.
HEALTH NOTES
A nice health-related story. A couple who met while being treated for brain injuries married in Minnesota.
Vietnam is paying women to have more babies, but there’s a catch. They have to be on baby number 2 to qualify.
The infection that’s causing explosive stomach illness has exceeded 1,000 cases in Michigan alone.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Uh oh. I might choose another repair shop.
TO MARS
Elon Musk says the first materials will land on Mars before the end of the year, and that robots will start building a colony there. So, I’m guessing by 2028, maybe we’ll see this on the surface of Mars.
THEM AND US
The Kansas City Chiefs’ star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, and his wife went to the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce wedding wearing a $362,000 watch.
Wonder if it keeps accurate time?
SEW IT UP
A woman in Japan is accused of sewing her housemates’ lips together. My daughter Heather sews a lot. I made need to warn her husband.
WORST STATES
The list for the worst and best states to move to was just released, based on safety, comfort, stability, and affordability.
The WORST state was New Mexico, followed by Louisiana, California, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.
The BEST is New Hampshire, followed by Utah, Idaho, Virginia, and Maine.
My home state of Missouri landed at 33, and Tennessee, where I live now? 38.
NO CLOTHES
There are actually comedians doing stand-up comedy stark naked. They are touring the country right now, headed to Chicago. True.
I did some stand-up comedy for a bit. I never thought about it, but I’d bet I would have gotten a lot of laughs if I were on stage with no clothes on. They wouldn’t be laughing at the jokes, but they’d be laughing.
A report claims that Americans are more likely to bet than read. In fact, less than half of all Americans have cracked a book in a year or more. I’m not going to share that with my wife, who just wrote her first book.
Read a book, y’all!
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Peter Drucker:
“Most of what we call management consists of making it difficult for people to get their work done.”
TODAY
My wife and I have some pre-work to do before her book signing tomorrow from 1-3 pm.
But if the weather cooperates like it did last night, I’ll be back at the ballpark this evening, hoping to see the Reds beat the Cubs tonight.
Then tomorrow, right after the book signing, we head home to Nashville.
Have a great weekend!
