Thursday morning has arrived, with a road trip ahead today. 89 with rain in Nashville today, and the rain is going to hang around all weekend.
YESTERDAY
I had an open day on my calendar, but my wife Kathy and I spent some of Wednesday high-fiving over her getting a little recognition for her book “Subtle Frequency.’
And this certificate as well.
Happy for her and the book! If you’re a reader? Grab a copy anywhere online for your summer read this year.
“LIVE” SONG
Last night, Texas artist Payton Howie was part of an all-girl songwriter round at the Listening Room Café here in Nashville. And she sang her current single, “Truck Bed,” which I wrote with her and Brady Seals. Looks like it went over big with the crowd. Take a LOOK.
#1 ON THE CHART
How about this? The song “Moon Shines on the Still” just went #1 on the Banjo Radio Chart from Dailey and Vincent, the song I wrote with Laura Leigh Jones. It’s been #1 on a couple of bluegrass charts, and now this one.
Banjo Radio is a great internet radio station run by my old boss at WSM, Kyle Cantrell. Download the app and listen if you’re a bluegrass fan.
This song has just done so well, and Dailey and Vincent just sing the heck out of the song we wrote. You can buy a copy of the album, or CD, or download it online almost anywhere, or, if you stop at Cracker Barrel, it’s racked there.
SONG OF THE DAY
My friends Darin and Brooke Aldridge were in town last weekend and performed at our Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
They sang “Wildflower Too, " which the three of us wrote together, and then they recorded it and released it as a radio single that did extremely well, garnering a lot of airplay on the Bluegrass Junction Channel on Sirius-XM. So that’s the Song of the Day.
HEALTH NOTES
Taco Bell is pulling key ingredients off its menu as ‘explosive diarrhea’ parasite cases surge.
Orkin just released its list of cities with the most bedbugs. Chicago is the worst, followed by Los Angeles, Detroit, Cleveland, and Indianapolis.
Health experts say that lower-body strength is one of the greatest predictors of healthy aging and independence.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Yep, that letter does not belong in the pool. Y is okay, J is okay, but no “P” in the pool…please.
BRISKET ON THE BOARD
Check out these salaries at Buc-ee’s that were displayed on one of their sidewalk signs.
Up to $250,000 for some of their managers, with no experience or college degree required. Wow. Wonder how much they pay the guy who gets inside their beaver costume?
UNITED WE SUE
There’s a class action lawsuit moving forward against United Airlines because they’ve been accused of charging passengers for a window seat. The problem is NOT them charging for the window seat. The problem is, the passengers paid for a window seat, only to find out there was no window. Yep. That’s a problem. And now it’s a lawsuit.
FUNNY LINES
The publication “Cracked” listed some of their all-time favorite comedy lines from comedians. Here’s a couple.
Robin Williams: “You know the difference between a tornado and a divorce in the south? Nothing! Someone is losing a trailer.”
Jon Stewart: “I don’t want to die before my parents die, especially my mother. Because I think that’s tragic. Because I don’t want her to get the chance to pick out what I’m going to wear for eternity.”
Dave Attell: “If I need directions, I’m not asking a man with one tooth. I’m asking a man with one leg. Because he definitely knows the easiest way to get there.”
DOGS ARE EXPENSIVE
Some dog owners pay as much as $800 for their dog to have “red light” therapy.
Yep. Last year, 158 billion dollars were spent on pets, with half of that going towards health and wellness. Get a goldfish, folks. Lot cheaper.
WEIRD…BUT TRUE
Some women are now doing at-home liposuction to lose weight. You can buy a kit for $95 and start sucking away in the convenience of your home.
I tried using one of these to take a little weight off.
It made a lot of noise, and I didn’t notice any weight loss for some reason.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From ole Anonymous:
“The best exercise is walking to the fridge for more pie.”
TODAY
Little road trip today. My wife has her book signing at Joseph Beth Booksellers from 1-3 pm on Saturday. She’ll be there signing her book “Subtle Frequency.” And me? I will once again be her “arm candy”. Drop by and see us if you can.
And with any weather luck, I’ll catch a couple of Reds games.
Last night against the Phillies, the Reds hit back-to-back-to-back homeruns. I wouldn’t mind them repeating that while I’m at the ballpark.
Have a great Wednesday!
