And here it is…the first “Hump Day” in May. Wednesday. And it’s bringing rain to Nashville, with a high of just 58 today.

YESTERDAY

I had a great lunch meeting with my “Evening in the Round” partners, Lang Scott & Linda Davis.

It was great catching up and pulling out our calendars to compare notes about where the road is going to take us between now and the end of April 2027. We will be playing shows in that time frame in Tennessee, New Mexico, Texas, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina for sure, with more dates to come.

The first of those dates will be in Mountain City, Tennessee, on August 22 at the Heritage Hall Theatre for a 7 pm show, with another possible date in North Carolina either the night before or on the 23rd. Stay tuned for info on that.

And I’m certainly looking forward to returning to the beautiful Spencer Theatre in Alto, New Mexico.

This will be the third time we’ve had the pleasure of playing at this gorgeous facility nestled against the mountains.

This will be special, as the first half of our show will be with a full band that’s coming with us from Nashville, and then the second half of the show will be our normal acoustic-songwriter set. The set with the band will feature “traditional” country songs, so I’m already trying to figure out which classic I might sing that night.

As fun as these shows are, it’s just as much fun getting there with Lang and Linda. We hope to see you at some of these stops.

SONG OF THE DAY

Here’s a song I put on my second comedy song CD, “Leave em’ Laughin’”. This one is titled, “Things That Don’t Suck About Being A Guy.” I wrote this one with my buddy Steve Dean, and yes, we laughed a lot while we were putting this one together.

HEALTH NOTES

UnitedHealth says it is planning to slash required authorizations by nearly a third this year, making it easier for patients to access an array of tests and procedures.

There’s a new food pyramid, and it’s a bit different. It now emphasizes meats, dairy, and what it calls “healthy fats,” as well as fruits and vegetables.

A new long-term study suggests that eating eggs regularly may be associated with a lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease in older adults.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

So glad they let us know.

MOM’S DAY

It’s this Sunday! What to get Mom?  This might be one cool choice. “Build-A-Bear” will allow you to record your voice, leaving a message from Mom for the bear. You can record your voice into the bear, 5-30 seconds long.

And, you can wait until the last second, as you can leave your voice in the bear on Mother’s Day itself, and have the bear delivered by Uber.

Kind of cool. Choose your message carefully. You don’t want Mom to hear your bear asking her, “When’s dinner Mom?”  Just saying.

STARBUCKS

They are moving a big part of their operations here to Nashville. Tennessee is the 8th best state for low taxes, compared to Washington, where they are based now, being 45th.

That means a lot of baristas will be trained here and buying property. And that probably means the price of housing here will jump again and will cost one a lot of “star-bucks.”

THAT TIME OF YEAR

When families start going to theme parks and water parks. TripAdvisor has ranked its Top 5 choices for the summer.

5…Universal Islands of Adventure. (For sure, do Harry Potter Land and grab a butter beer)

4…Disney’s Hollywood Studios. (I was there with a bunch of media for its Grand Opening way back when. The Tower of Terror will throw your heart up in your throat.)

3…Magic Kingdom. (The new Star Wars land is so cool)

2…Dollywood (I’ve had the pleasure of playing in the park a few times. So well run…and fun.)

And their #1 choice is a park I’ve never been to. Knoebel’s Amusement Park in Pennsylvania. (I’d go just to ride this bad boy)

My personal favorite park is still EPCOT at Disney World. It came in 6th.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From the great golfer Lee Trevino:

My wife doesn’t care what I do when I’m away, as long as I don’t have a good time.”

TODAY

I’m looking forward to writing with my Pennsylvania buddy, Troy Engle, for the first time since he became a full-time member of Ricky Skaggs’s band as a multi-instrumentalist. I can’t wait to hear what that experience is like for my friend.

Have a great Wednesday!
